This or pixel 7 for about £100 more? Was thinking 7a but the video doesn't look that good on some samples I've seen
    leondas's avatar
Pixel 7a has better processor, camera and long software support. The last system update provides decent battery life as well finally. Screen is just 90 Hz not 120 but to be honest it is nice as well. Smaller form factor also. Wireless charging is real slow, much slower than on Moto edge as well as wired charging. I own a Moto edge 40 and I think for that price it is an incredibly good value. But if the price difference is just 100 quids I would go for Pixel 7a for sure.

Flip sake, paid this price for one off UKStock on Ebay last week.

I can heartily recommend it. Replaced my Pixel 6. Camera is surprisingly good, display is a lot better as well. Doesn't have the 'grunt' of the Tensor, but does everything I need it to do. 67w charging is fab.

Still on Android 13, but is on January security update. (edited)

eSim capable phone at extremely keen price with good specifications 👏👏
    chancooluk's avatar
The Moto G34 is also eSIM capable, currently £105 from Lenovo via Perks at Work. The G54 is eSIM capable too.

    Didn't realise there was a Motorola Edge 40 and a Motorola Edge 40 Neo. Here's a comparison.

Seems a pretty good deal for the price, I'm a bit disappointed in the cameras - would a Gcam port help? - but having to remind myself of that price!

Anyone know how many years of Android updates? The Motorola G84 apparently only has 1 year?! How many years of security updates? Think I might have to revise my budget upwards.
    leondas's avatar
There is a Gcam port yes. It improves daytime photography but not with a huge step. Cameras are average on Edge 40 never gonna be great. It is what it is.
Software support gives you 2 more major android update (14 in the next few months) and 3 more year of security updates (every 2 months). (edited)

I experienced terrible costumer service from Clover technology. I purchased Motorola edge 40 this morning only to learn I was suspected scammer because of my payment method (Revolut). When I tried to get to the bottom of this they cancelled my order. I have several emails from them as the evidence. I think they used this offer as the cheap advertising. Would recommend to stay away.

Will I be disappointed taking this over a Galaxy S22. Hoping for better battery life but worried about camera quality and OS feel as I never used stock-ish android.
    Msx98's avatar
The s22 is the better phone for camera. The moto is fine but don't bother zooming anywhere you'll be disappointed compared to the s22. But the battery is night and day on the moto's favour and the charging ridonkulously fast. OS is nice and simple and won't be too much of a change from Samsung. I had an s22 and had to get rid as battery did my head in. Went to an s23, love it, and tried the moto in the summer. In hand feel is excellent but ultimately I could just about afford to hold on to the Samsung so did. The s23 is the better buy imo and will receive a lot of updates. Appreciate that is twice as much but worth it I'd say. (edited)

I can't find anything about its screen protection on the internet or the brands page (ie gorilla glass). Assuming it comes with none & it's just a glass screen ?
    leondas's avatar
No GG glass but NEG glass I think. A bit weaker than GG 5 but better than nothing.

Very good price, better hardware than what xiaomi offer at this pricepoint and you don't deal with their awful software

Waiting for HyperOS on my 12T Pro, never been a fan of MIUI... Itchy fingers for an upgrade (like always) but hardware-wise 12T Pro hasn't skipped a beat. Any experience with HyperOS? Am I in for a disappointment?

52209403-iWlcE.jpgAnother option for this phone, the in store offer at Currys is £9 upfront and £9.99 for 24 months on ID mobile, so £250 and includes allowances. This is only 2gb/ month.
When I asked for this contract, it showed as £179 on their system, but they price matched it no quibble.
    Mr_Ekho's avatar
Curry's? Saying £129 upfront cost online

Got one of these for 199 via perks at work in Dec. Has been great. Brilliant value. Nothing bad to say. E-sim works like a charm on giffgaff, not missing the sd-card. No spam software + some of the motorola custom apps are useful.

    Some cons to note.

    - overheats while charging, watching videos.
    - screen on time is around 4-5 hours (YouTube)
    - Accidental touch prevention kinda hinders the usage at times.
    - launcher is not really customisable.

Yea you can use nova...there is a gesture navigation lag issue with third party launchers on android.

I hate to say it but i wonder if this is a glitch as Green colour in image is £299.99 in the sale..still 24 hour delivery so people will find out pretty quickly if they honour the price.

Only the black for £219, the images pre populated from the get deal link, I just didn't change them

So close to meeting my spec - but no microSD card slot is an issue . . .

Edit: But my current phone only has 128Gb internal / 128Mb microSD. So maybe this would do . . . (edited)

Great phone with great specs but the haptic motor is genuinely awful. My Motorola Moto G4 Plus had better haptics.
    polar111's avatar
Since I have never heard of a haptic motor in my life, will this affect my use and enjoyment should I buy this?
  31. martynhardacre's avatar
    Absolute bargain 🔥
  32. dkj255's avatar
    Ordered, thanks!

For those interested, this is slated to stop receiving updates May 2027 (OS upgrades will likely stop the year before or maybe even next year). en-gb.support.motorola.com/app…533

And here's a review of it from uncle Spurt
    (edited)
  33. FunkyDomino's avatar
I think the neo is probably the better buy for most with a slightly higher battery capacity and slightly lower CPU / GPU meaning battery life SHOULD be a bit better. Horses for courses though I guess.
    dkj255's avatar
No wireless charging though, so unless you can get one <£200 I'd stick with this.
  34. dalbncl's avatar
Does anyone know definitively if this phone supports reverse wireless charging? There seems to be mixed messages online
  35. Sultrysunset's avatar
Good phone, good price - have this as my back up for when I inevitably break the current one
  36. mathews94's avatar
This or honour magic 5 lite?
    JamesB83's avatar
This but depends on your needs and preferences
  37. Grobbendonk's avatar
Great deal (heat added) but I'm still not seeing anything compelling for me personally to to displace my PocoF3 at a decent price point.
There's not much between these two phones according to a GSMArena shootout. Photos offer a little give and take but are incredibly similar, despite the moto having the superior camera (on paper at least).
The moto has a better IP rating and eSIM capability, but that's about it as far as I can see.
For me, the MiUI is a small price to pay and it doesn't really bother me in comparison to the moto stock Android setup. (edited)
