I think I'd just buy one of those N100 mini PCs instead. Even more efficient, more RAM and storage, faster storage. (edited)

Got a N100 and a HP 9500T, and for general computing I'd go for the 9500T every time - significantly faster in general use, and still low power usage. And I wouldn't put the build quality of those mini N100 PC's on the same level as this Dell. (edited)
  2. J400uk's avatar
    Will this run Windows 11?
    Ruffuz's avatar
Yes, no issues as this is 9th Gen cpu

Good price for a 5070 USFF.

NOTE: the deal title incorrectly states it is an SFF (small form factor) model, it's actually the MFF/USFF (Micro form Factor) version (edited)
    BlightySpike's avatar
The devil is in the detail. Thanks for highlighting this form factor.

I'm using one of these right now.

I've just checked gmail, I paid £430 for it three years ago.

It runs Win11 and does everything I need. Occasionally a task like changing resolution on a long video file seems like hard work for it, but for the best part it serves its purpose really well and I'm not in a hurry to replace it. (edited)

Great machine. I brought same for 50.00 more about 12 months ago. Added a 512gb ssd, free upgrade to Windows 11 and is now my main PC.

While I don't really play games I have no plans of changing it for years to come
  6. monitor1's avatar
This should run Windows 11 as the processor is above the 8th generation.
  7. drayz's avatar
Get an N100 instead. Processing power per Watt is far better, pulls 6w at wall when idle.
    bisoner's avatar
I've got both - the Dell pulls around 15w on idle. From memory I'm sure I paid around £130 for my Dell - but I think it's a 3070 - same CPU and came with wireless and a HDMI port. Both are nicely built. Both are quiet but you can hear the fans at times in a silent room. Any kind of ambient noise and you wont hear them.
  8. 9El9Nino9's avatar
    This has its use case.
I still use this as the main media centre on the TV. the N100 is the "server" and does the AV1 Decoding!
but this is a different animal. the N100 can't keep up with a lot of the tasks this will.

setup: Windows 11 Pro on this.
Proxmox on the N100 with Jellyfin (LXC Container Debain) and TrueNas VM, OPNSense VM. got an orico USB3 Dongle (around a fiver on amazon) with ethernet so i have 3 ethernet ports and 3 free USB ports as 2x USB external drives on the Mini PC. I connect the hyperoptic connection to this box.

the 9th gen can't do AV1 but can do X265 for media
    anuruddha's avatar
Are you using Plex or Jellyfin
  9. monitor1's avatar
Not really up to much ,ancient processor.I would personelly go for newer generation.I am after a new pc. Have Ryzen 7 5700G now.
    xanoas's avatar
It might be five generations behind, but it's still a good server PC, and at this price point, you won't get better.
  10. farmphdbank's avatar
For any Zwifters wondering below are the zwiftalyzer results: for this CPU. Conclusion: similar to the N100 mini PC's, it's still not gonna hack busy evening races at 1080p

If I wanted to mess about with multiple home server applications, docker, virtualisation etc, but still with one eye on power consumption, would I be better using one of these or one of those N100 based PCs? At the moment I run 4 RPis (1 Pi 4, 2 Pi Model B's and 1 Pi Zero) hosting Home Assistant, 2 instances of PiHole and CUPS respectively but was thinking of consolidating these on a single home server and also exploring other uses but not pushing up the energy usage too much in the process. Alternatively I also have an old 6th gen i5 laptop with a dead battery which I was considering using for this purpose. (edited)
    Chz's avatar
For messing about with all of that at the same time, the 9500 is better due to having 50% more cores. The N100s are a great deal and probably make a better cheap desktop, but for running loads of services and containers the extra CPUs are definitely the better buy.

Great deal for a good spec. I searched for 9500t systems on eBay, and while there were some sold within the last month at £70 to £100, the current listings for 9500t systems are £160 upwards. If you can wait, wait.

However, this is a cracking deal for one straight from Dell, avoiding some of that uncertainty of buying from eBay.

HEAT! (And I ordered one too).
    zer0nis's avatar
I got an i5-8500t Optiplex 7060 for about £90 with 8gb RAM and 128GB storage. Agreed this is a good deal - no preloaded malware on these unlike the N100's from Aliexpress.

Does this play 4k content to a 4k tv? (edited)
  14. jimbobule's avatar
Is there enough space here for 2 x HDD to make a NAS?
    Imatechguy's avatar
Only one 2.5" drive sadly but can attach a DAS for that purpose. That's what I'm planning on doing with this.
  15. detroid89's avatar
This would be great for a plex media server. Need to check out what 4k transcoding is like...
    Jealy's avatar
Depending on your storage needs/availability, these MFF are great servers but don't have much space for extra storage. Usually fit a single 2.5" disk in.

Would this computer (with its integrated GPU) be powerful enough to run older Steam games? Specifically Railroad Tycoon II... I went all Mac some time ago and I haven't been able to get my RRT2 fix for a year.
    Sean64Roche's avatar
Yeah this should be perfectly capable of running that game. I can't speak for whether it works on Windows 10, but there are Steam reviews that state that it does.

Can this pc be used as a cctv recording system and is it worth it?

I'm wanting to create a custom reliable cctv system with at least 4 caneras. (edited)
    LloydChristmas's avatar
Yes it can run something like Blue Iris nicely, it has intel quick sync. Search for Cameron Gray on YouTube. He’s just recently made a video about this.
  18. spannerzone's avatar
Excellent price for a very usable pc for daily tasks, youtube, internet, email, work stuff or as a mini server. My little HP 6th gen micro pc is still quite capable so this 9th gen is absolutely fine for the price.

Edit - the title description is incorrect, the base model at £147 is 128GB ssd not 256gb - still pretty decent though. (edited)

these things just sip power. I've got one running 24/7 for RDP windows things rather than pay for parallels on Mac

8th and 9th gen Intel went crazy on the idle power optimisations.
  21. johnrchilds's avatar
Decent as a little retro gaming console.
    Hearnia_2K's avatar
No dedicated GPU, so probably fine for older stuff like NES / SNES / Genesis and maybe PS1, but probably not so useful for anything like N64 or PS2 upwards.

Nice little machine. I have an extended version with a dual network card running as a router using opnsense. Has not let me down so far.
    mds1256's avatar
where does the dual nic card sit? as from the pics it looks like you cannot add an expansion card?

    Does this play Crysis @ 4K @ 2160p ?
    Rumcajs_9's avatar
    Yes, at around 1-2fps.

The Core i5-9500T  is a horrifically throttled processor, absolute pants for anything useful.

Do you think I can squeeze that one into my backpack? I would take it for my parents if I can get through the airport security with it

How well would this run blueiris?
    bootx1's avatar
Should run it fine. I run Debian with Frigate on a 6th gen, with a coral accelerator and run a sql server instance on that machine too. All containerised.
  29. jools2001's avatar
Does this model come with HDMI or just 2 display ports, if only display i will have to order display to hdmi cable as well?
    Uridium's avatar
There is a Photo of the rear view in the first post, shows 2x display ports only.
  30. Blades's avatar
Code works with SFF too so can be upgraded.

can we use dell points with this?
    jools2001's avatar
Dont think so, i had some from a laptop deal
but found nowhere on the site to add them
guess its as they seem to operate as a separate business,
my £7.50 cashback tracked, even that was a different link to the normal dell cashback link
  33. slybunda's avatar
    power supply included?

I bought a hp 400 g6 with an i3 9100 and a 250gb nvme off ebay 2 weeks ago for £80 same ram and it comes with 1 year reburb guarantee too so apart from the 9500t which is mince anyway it would put this dell unit to shame! The chip itself is only £60 off ebay dell are at it!

Can you share the link from eBay please

Would the integrated graphics be enough for this to run Roblox? My son wants a PC but given his small bedroom the SFF is more ideal than a normal tower.
