FAQs

What's the difference between Google One and Google Drive?

  • Google Drive is a way to organise your files. Google One is a subscription that gives you more storage across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.

Can I use Google One if I'm not a member?

  • You can back up data on your Android or iOS phone and also clean up space in your Google Account using the storage manager. If you get a Google One plan, you'll unlock additional features like expanded Cloud Storage and member benefits.

Who can I share my Google One membership with?

  • You can share Google One with up to five other people at no extra cost (so six in total, including you). When you create a new family group, you can add or remove other family members.
  • If you're already a member of a family group on Google, you can share your Google One plan with the rest of your existing group.

What's the difference between Google One Cloud Storage and the cloud storage that comes with every Google Account?

  • Every Google Account comes with 15 GB of storage for Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. When you subscribe to Google One, your total storage increases to 100 GB or more depending on the plan that you choose. You also get Google Photos editing features and more – all of which you can share with up to five other people.

What's the difference between Google One and Google Workspace Individual?

  • Google Workspace Individual includes more premium features to help individual business owners run and grow their businesses. Google One is a consumer subscription plan that gives you more storage across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, plus extra Google benefits and features. The Google One Premium plan comes with a limited number of Google Workspace Individual features, like longer group calls for Google Meet and enhanced appointment scheduling in Google Calendar.

Any more member benefits in the pipeline?

  • Yes! We're working on providing members with benefits across a wide range of Google products and services. Stay tuned!
  • To be notified about new benefits, sign up on the website or go to the settings on the Google One website or app and update your email preferences.

How do you take advantage of this if you're already subscribed to Nest aware paying £6pm, guessing cancel nest aware and buy the premium google one?

Can't see anywhere on the link where it states you get nest aware for free though...
    markdavey1972's avatar

As soon as I had subscribed, I was prompted on my phone that Nest Aware is now included in Google One and asking me whether I wanted to transfer my subscription, which I did. Also receieved a pro-rated refund for the remaining original subscription.

No loss of video footage. I wouldn't cancel or you'll lose footage (edited)

OK I now see this so looks like I am all good....

They have actually taken a pro-rata amount of £41.28 to match it to my Google One subscription.

    The app also shows...

How did you get the annual sub? I can only see monthly payment...
  3. TiPsss's avatar
I was originally on 100gb plan and upgraded to the 2tb plan (yearly option) this morning. Once I upgraded I was prompted on my phone about asking if I wanted to setup nest aware which I already had but the plus version which I agreed to and got a refund of £85.

I am also wondering if Fitbit premium works with other family members as the wife has been wanting to get this and if its included with the 2tb subscription then that's a bonus!

Edit: Just setup fitbit and yeah I am the only person who gets Premium by the looks of it as wife's is still prompting to sign up monthly for it unless there is something I need to do. (edited)

I haven't got the Fitbit premium showing on my account or the wife's account

I have nest subscription paid annually until June, anyone know what happens if I upgrade to a 2tb plan?
    TiPsss's avatar
You will get a pro-rata refund. I was the same and got £85 refunded.
  5. umirza85's avatar
Do you know if this will work if i pay the 2TB with an annual sub?
    busterdan's avatar
Yes it's fine... I have an annual plan
  6. robstirling82's avatar
I'm paid up until September with Nest aware so I assume there is no point upgrading until then?

Google won't credit back the remaining months I assume?
    markdavey1972's avatar

I believe (looking at the above comments), you should receive a pro-ratered refund (I did for my monthly sub). Have a scan through the comments and you'll see what I mean

My nest aware was due to cancel on the 24th. I upgraded my google one from 100gb to 2tb premium and instantly got a notification that nest aware was part of plan, opened google home app, transferred sub over to google one and was issued a refund of remaining days up to 24th. I opened my fitbit and premium was already showing.

They are sooo going to wait until everyone has a huge amount of stuff uploaded and depending on it then massively hike the price. Classic bate & switch. I'm keeping my Nest Aware Gen1 subscription and using my NAS for cloud storage.
    Andy_H_VW's avatar
But a NAS isn't cloud storage.

Tip: If you have Google Rewards/Play credit, you can top up your balance with gift cards (to £80) and pay for 12 months, which is cheaper then paying monthly. (edited)

I'm currently on Basic (100 GB) for £15.99/year and £120/year for Nest Aware Plus.
    That's £136 per annum.

Do I understand it correctly that I can switch to Premium (2 TB) for £79.99/year and pay £60 extra for Nest Aware Plus? Making a total of £140? In other words, it will cost extra £4 per year for 1900 GB of storage?

    Has anyone actually tried this?
    BarginHunter85's avatar
That was exactly my scenario and it played out how you/I suspected.

    Just as an update:
Upgraded to the 2TB AI version free for 2 months
Have retained the Nest aware as part of the plan
I fully plan to change this back to the normal version before the charge kicks in as not paying a tenner a month for AI!

It's criminal they removed it for the second gen plans.
    ...
I am currently on a free trial of 2TB AI Google One.
    ...
Has anyone got first gen nest aware, and been able to keep it with this offer?

You will be moved to the Nest Aware plan (no 24/7 recording) unless you pay to upgrade for Nest aware plus (£60 additional).

There is lot of alternative for cloud storage and VPN for say Free or smart buy
I know it will NOT be for everyone

VPN - depends what you do or what you want to hide
If it is just for Phone security then
Asus router offering wireguard VPN for free if you have asus router ""Basically all data from phone goes back to home router and the home router pings Internet . Is it secure possible more secure then not using if you using FREE WIFI public "
What negative using Asus Wireguard i would say it is slower then using proper VPN cloud

I'm personally not using any Free Wifi using my data plan as it is Unlimited but there are times where no signal and I imagine someone needs data then yes VPN is your only alternative on free WIFI
Cheapest VPN integrated is in iPhone iCloud plan for £2.99
iPhone have 200 GB plan for £2.99 and this include iCloud VPN or they called Private Relay
Do not know about google imagine google one is they native VPN

    Now what about Cloud storage
Onedrive or we need to call Microsoft 365 for £49 per year you will get 5 users for 1 TB each
So in total you getting 5TB cloud storage per all user accounts . Per month will be 49 / 12 = £4
What you getting is MS Office and 5 TB storage
What benefits use onedrive instead of all other storage
1 MS Office for 5 Users
2 Folder share structure "iCloud is syncs software between iPhone and mac "
3 Password share folders NO other cloud offering password share option
4 it is 5 x Separate shares each user data is they own account data you can not see each other data So you can easy add friend and family to OneDrive or say Microsoft 365

Icloud 2 TB: £8.99 what you get is family share Is it better then OneDrive ? for user where they do not want to know anything about storage share then Yes.
It is simple usage Plus it is native integration have benefits .
    Now problems
I have 2 x macs and iPhone and was using to sync Pictures but i found that it so problematic
Because iCloud works as sync cloud between devices
it is mean if I put anything to my iCloud then it is will be sync with my phone as well and backwards . iPhone manage cloud storage automatically but there is no way to tell iCloud please do not sync these folder with iPhone or say this mac but sync with other mac
Resume iCloud you do not have any control on folders what you share to what device

What about CCTV cameras and door Bells
Im not advertising but aqara  cameras  works  with  apple homekit native   So if  you have £2.99 apple iCloud plan  you can use aqara  cameras to  record  motion video . Plus apple offering AI smart recordings where  you can set alarm  for people , cars  , animals , box etc ......

What about user  where they do not  have apple homekit   or do not want to use
All aqara  cameras  have FREE  7 Days clips cloud   storage .
What it is mean clip storage  It is ANY  motion detection recording for 12 Sec  as clips to cloud or they call album storage ...
But if I want to see 24 hrs all day video  Then  buy SD card  and record constant video
But what happen if thieves come to my house  and stole my aqara  cameras    then i do not  have any video  to see   YES  it is true  but  you will have 12 second clips with 10 - 20 sec interval for motion

Personally  I do not care if they stole camera with SD card  My thinking :
1 First I will have 12 sec  cloud video clip anyway  To show Insurance and police
Plus when you have 4 cameras there is no chance that all cameras will be stolen

Second big thing is that  all aqara  cameras  do not  have red glow LED  they are invisible to human eye

2 aqara have cool time between motion clips where next recording will be  after 10 sec or 20 sec  time interval  depends on camera you have
So  first  12 second clip  will show thieves trying to break in to house
2 second clip  I imagine will be  as well  because  it is need time to find camera and disconnect  etc
So big chance I will have another 12 Sec of thieves video  as well
3  Now  these days  thieves  not stupid they all use mask face / head   and cameras not  DSLR cameras where you can zoom etc... and possible see they eyes retina to recognise person
4 Most Important NOT  SD card or ALL video recording  but GOOD INSURANCE  as this is where you will have backup or say money back for stolen things
5 Police  with all video chance they find  anything's is  so low  Plus they will  need to prove it is these people on video
You can see how many  video on YouTube where cars has been stolen , and now thieves   rob  food stores  where in day light  they come and rob  and do you think someone find these  thieves   ?  if police can not  see they  face  what they have evidence  nothing
So  better  invest  into good  house Insurance where you know  if something happens at least you can get something .

And for door bell  I'm  using   blink video doorbell with sync module 2  So it is  free to record to USB stick
and I do not need my door bell to record  24 Hrs  as    aqara  camera recording drive way anyway 24 Hrs

and i can  tell  you "a hack"  for  blink video doorbell with sync module 2
When  you buy blink video doorbell  you get  free 1 moth  cloud storage  after on month you need to buy cloud storage or  use  sync module 2  to record door bell push videos
After 1 month delete account  in  blink  app  and  register again with same email  and you will get again  1 Month free cloud storage   There only issue you need to resync everything again  and this can take 30 Min
as  My blink video doorbell integrated to alexa   for notification in house as chimney
I do not care about cloud as I do have sync module  to record vide anyway
But the system so slow  the only main purpose for delivery drivers to tell leave the package somewhere
For security it not record anything at all if you not pressing push button

Long story maybe will help someone  if one person helped then my story have good points
       (edited)

Microsoft 365 family is £79.99 per year but a good alternative.

Although I would say Google Cloud is far better integrated with Android and iPhones, plus the benefit of this is for those with Nest cameras.

    Got it on mine now.
I wonder if the price will go up in the near future.

Annoyingly fitbit doesn't link to any other smart watch apart from Google pixels.

Think I'll use this for the workout suggestions (which Samsung health already do)

Read the comments above. You will be credited your current subscription if you choose to transfer
  20. GregTK's avatar
If I am not mistaken you no longer get continuous recording via Google One, which kind of is why I got Nestcams to start off with. The Google One integration will record events still though.

If I am mistaken, then please let me know... will save myself some money every month then.
    TiPsss's avatar
You can still get 24/7 recording but you will need to change your subscription to Nest Aware Plus which can be done after signing up to this deal.

Nest Aware Plus costs an extra £59.99 per year.

2TB Google One plan with Nest Aware Plus would be £139.98 per year when paid anually.
  21. RorzL's avatar
this is almost certainly to be followed by a price increase.
    teddybeers's avatar
    Yup.
All about to get users to sink in to it then prices goes up.

Exactly what happened with Google pgotos
    1. Unlimited storage
    2. Unlimited only for compressed photos
    3. 15GB is not enough for anything
    4. Cheap plans are to low so expensive ones required.
    5. Pure profit since moving away from g photos is absurdly difficult
  22. mcav's avatar
That's... Actually good. Has anyone checked if the benefits can be shared with a family? This would be a deal maker.

Not like Google to give something away. Already paying for the 2TB, but couldn't stomach paying for Nest Aware or additional Fitbit subscriptions. It's a bargain for me as can now use all 3. I doubt this will last forever, though.

I think it's more that Google was already charging a lot. Apple's equivalent includes the equivalent of Ring Security video, Microsoft's equivalent includes MS Office and a lot more storage.
