Paying for adblocking that's just using other people's (completely free) filter lists has got to be the dumbest thing ever.

In your browser? use uBlock origin. On your device? Use NextDNS. Never pay a penny.
    boro4ever's avatar
Thanks. Nextdns seems to work a treat.
  2. Yousuf_'s avatar
I use ublock origin on my mobile and PC. My home internet router is using quad9 DNS.

Would I have any additional benefits if I used this?

I think one of the main selling points for this is the HTTPS filtering (as opposed to the simple DNS filtering) but you have to basically perform a MITM attack on yourself and trust that the Adguard app isn't going to do anything nefarious with your decrypted data.

will this work on a chromebook, thanks.

Just placed the order for the family subscription. Did realise that I was gonna get lumbered with $4.59 tax!

Total came to £21.86 on my Halifax Clarity fee free card.

Update: StackSocial refunded me the value of the tax charge. (edited)

I started with adguard dns on the router but found that NextDNS was just as good and on the free plan I never exceed the monthly limit of dns requests, really good for blocking ads from itvx and 4player
    majorwedgy666's avatar
Is it smart enough to differentiate Google links from actual ads? That is the only drawback from the DNS version you mention

    For mobiles?

I bought this last time someone posted it. Although not compatible on Google TV, I downloaded anyway and no ads on itv. Brilliant. Wish I had known about this year's ago. Itv ads are the worst. Saved me so much time.
    antsgame's avatar
Oh? App on the store or downloaded via apk?
  8. xPabloz's avatar
Worth getting the family subscription. Paid like £10 for it last year

I've been using adguard on all my devices for years, it's never asked me or showed me any payment options.

How is this different, what am I missing out?

    TIA

Will only work limited with Samsung & Yandex unless you buy a license.
  10. andel90's avatar
Does this block the YouTube ads within the app?
    Solee's avatar
You can also use Brave browser it also has an inbuilt adblock as a free solution.
  11. Gio2019's avatar
Cheaper and easier directly on the app? Though I’d want the family plan so good post.

That's for one iOS device though, this license covers 3 (including being able to use it on your iPhone).

Advertising an ad blocker deal. ( juxtaposition maybe )
    Scanamon_Darkly's avatar
No - irony and, possibly, oxymoronic. It's not juxtaposition.

I use ControlD with their ad blocks. I now don't see any ads on ITV, Channel 4 or Channel 5. This includes Smart TVs, as they are blocked at my router.
    Samt9797's avatar
Does this stop ads on youtube also?
  17. pet2000's avatar
I'm using Adguard for android for years now and never had a problem (no ads). This is a very good deal. Remember "New customers only", so this wouldn't apply to me. Maybe this should be mentioned by the OP.. (edited)

I think that note is erroneous, I don't know what it means. You can buy multiple licenses and bind them or unbind them to the same account, or just use the license key to log in instead of e-mail.

    From searching the interwebs:
    > “Please be aware that devices like the Fire Stick typically run a simplified operating system that restricts the functionality of many Android apps. For instance, these devices do not support third-party HTTPS certificates. Consequently, certain essential features like HTTPS filtering and ad blocking on YouTube will not be accessible. Due to these limitations, we have not conducted explicit testing of our Ad Blocker on the Fire Stick and cannot guarantee its proper functioning and user interface performance in this context”.

It might work, but there are other, tested solutions.
