It's a large cooler for the money and with that much metal can probably adequately cool many CPUs even passively.

But just looking at the design, that fan in the middle looks compromised. Whichever direction you set that fan to spin it is going to intake hot air from one stack of fins and blow it across the other stack of fins. That can only lead to uneven cooling since one stack will be able to have cold air blown/drawn across it while the second gets already warmed air from the first stack blown/drawn across it.

Noctua nhd15 also has the same design.

Yeah at this price point there isn't a better cooler.

What’s the difference between this and the Peerless Assassin
    homebanjo's avatar
This is less expensive and with better fans it seems; spec below. Have just paid £30 for the argb assassin (in the spec) but would have bought this instead.52515496-0rldo.jpg

On 7800x3d amazing performance, only ever hear it when its very intensely loading something.

What motherboard do you have, if you don't mind me askin?

Cheers OP. 5800x isn't liking me cheaping out and sticking with the stock 2600 wraith stealth I upgraded from

Does this cool an 5800x3d adequately?

I use it with that cpu, no issues at all

Ordered to replace my wraith prism cooler on my Ryzen 7 3700x
    kittendoggie's avatar
Why your 3700x needs nothing more than a prism which is a great cooler by the way. You are trading good looks for thermal performance you don’t even need. Silly move in my opinion .

This thermalright is a great cooler but you don’t need it. Your prism will cool ryzen 9 processors without issues.

That’s a lot of heatisnk for the money

Tempted to move away from my trusty Arctic Freezer 13. Only used on a Ryzen 3600 but the futureproofing is there! Plus it's new and shiny...

Don't bother due to risk of damage to MB etc!

    Great option

Voted hot, but there is also the Thermalright PS120SE with 7 heat pipes and quieter fans for £30. Works fine for my Ryzen 7900 in normal (ecoish) and also non eco mode.

    Thermalright heats sinks are great!

Looks good and I've been using Thermalright heatsinks since the socket 462 days...but 1.5Kg hanging vertically off your mobo is asking for trouble, surely!
  13. Smugnamehere's avatar
Not quite sure where all these fears about cooler weight are coming from. It uses a bracket that distributes the weight. If you were moving house or to a Lan then you'd dismount it if feeling cautious. I've never heard of a properly mounted heatsink damaging a mobo apart from in transit tbh.

A bit difficult to find some professional reviews for this as they all seem to focus on the top tier Thermal Assassin version. The only remarks I could find that meant anything to me were that it's a little bit louder than some of the other options, which is a downer. I was looking at perhaps getting this as a cheap upgrade/sidegrade to my existing Arctic Freezer, which is almost silent with my 5800X3D (apart from in Helldivers which runs v. hot). Sound profile is just as crucial as cooling effectiveness for me.
