This is a bargain !!!

You're a bit touchy. I reported the other thread as a duplicate. Looks like admin may have deleted the other thread and put my comment here. All a bit strange. I've deleted it to avoid any upset.

why does your link, link to this page?? Is it a duplicate of itself?? This some kind of magical crap?

Remember and this especially applies to retailers "in trouble" that sometimes they buy stock from the manufacturer without any warranty/support so they get a discount. Don't always assume you're covered.

It's about £24 on Amazon with a great returns policy. Why would anyone buy from Maplin right now??

Got it 18 when they had the extra 20% off last weekend

you can still return if faulty, and long term cooler master will support you better than Maplin ever would can't argue about the 2nd point but there could always be stock elsewhere

Not much cheaper than buying from amazon and no returns, doesn't really make sense trying to find one in maplins now, especially if there's only 1 left in chester

Ok thanks I will have a look. Lets hope my new MSI board is better at dealing with overclocking than it was setting it up....... Built plenty of PC's before with ASUS boards never had an issue. Almost pulled whats left of my hair out with the MSI !!.

Would agree with the Youtube method really, it's not as hard as it sounds though, it can just take some patience while you're working up in increments to get a decent stable OC. Main problem is, no one can say "set this to that, move this there and boom 4.7 OC!" Even the exact same model CPUs will OC differently, but that's just how it is. Some motherboards have software which can be useful as well, although I prefer to get stuck into the BIOS myself.

Yeah I almost went for a 1700 until the price drops before he second gen we’re released. I’m still at stock speed, u know of any guides to OC for a dummy like me. I use it everyday for work so all speed bumps help

Oh nice, I went with the 1700 and gave it an OC, really impressed. Been on Intel since I can remember, so fancied a change. Impressed!

I kept the stock fans but setup multiple rpm profiles in the bios based on the CPU temps. I get idle 30-40 at very low spin speed so pretty much silent. Then it ramps up when temps hit 60 which has been quite rare. I've left voltage at stock and done a 10% OC. If you want very quiet go for maglev's although they are a bit pricier than stock ball bearing fans

Installed mine now, great cooler in terms of it cools well, but the coolermaster fans are pretty loud under load. What fan's are folks using with this in order to reduce the noise?

All installed looks really good and so far only slightly louder than my case fans. Running nice and cool as well with a small overclock to 4.4.

Item has now sold out. Whoever went for it enjoy the bargain!

It requires removing motherboard if upgrading old cooler to fit plate to underside of it, if your case hasn't got an access. Cool beast! There is an option to fit second fan providing you have space for it.

Doesn't seem a great price, not sure how it compares, but my brother got a Fractal Kelvin Design T12 from ebuyer for the same price before christmas, although it had to go back as the pump didn't work.

I have one of these for over two years and it is dead silent. The CPU stays cool under idle with the fan on its minimum 200rpm in PWM mode and even under load it is less audible than the power supply fan, case fan or GPU fans. It is a BEAST and is heavy as well as huge. it only just fits inside my Bitfenix Prodigy ITX case which lays the motherboard flat. RAM clearance will be an issue with tall sticks or if the CPU socket is too close tot he RAM slots (like in some ITX boards. I picked my ASUS board specifically to fit this cooler.) Comparable to Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 and Noctua D14/D15 but cheaper.

MSI Z170A Mpower Gaming Titanium - BIOS Flashed to Support Kaby Lake CPUs - With FREE MSI Core Frozr L CPU Cooler £119.99 @ Novatech

Great motherboard with a great feature set. Comes with a MSI Core Frozr L 120mm CPU Cooler

They also sell a Gigabyte Z170 board for £69 delivered which supports Kaby Lake. Not sure why this board is considered a deal...

Ye I have to say not that impressed here I mean maybe if it were the z270 xpower T it would be worth considering but now with CFL so close only to be seeing only the z170's (two gen old) drop now is sad really, this is why they will end up with so much old stock they hold onto it for to long, the smart retailers will drop the z270's down around now on the run up to CFL in October, dumping as much of it as they can, now were on a new chipset, cpu, platform with no backward compatibility, your effectively asking for people to buy not only an old board but also an old cpu to go with it and for around the same cost as the new CFL, that's not gonna happen, yes ok sure some people already have kaby/sky lake but those who do so also already have a mobo for it. Those trying to pawn off old z170's are wasting there time and should of thought of doing it nov/dec/last year and jan this year, in-fact even those trying to dump z270's now will have a hard job because again CFL will be priced very close and will be new and btr? I suppose but on top of that everyone's buying ryzen stuff so even those few people that are left and looking to jump to a platform it goes as follows #1- CFL, then #2- Ryzen then #3- the old z270's, retailers are in a bad spot here no doubt the longer they wait the harder it will be to dump z270 stock and unlike the last 8 years or so there has been no other competitive platform so old intel will not hold there value this time round, geez there having trouble holding there value new at the moment.. To look at it this way why buy this z170 mpower and an now old cpu vs an x370/b350 am4 board and newer high core, cheaper cpu, and get more bang for your buck? The cooler is a nice touch sure but this https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-X370-GAMING-PLUS-Motherboard/dp/B072DWLJVR/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506000507&sr=1-1&keywords=x370 Or https://www.amazon.co.uk/ROG-STRIX-B350-F-Socket-Motherboard/dp/B072C6VPZJ/ref=sr_1_23?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506000574&sr=1-23&keywords=x370 Or https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-B350-Gaming-Carbon-Motherboard/dp/B06X9KN5KR/ref=sr_1_24?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506000638&sr=1-24&keywords=x370 Paired with a 1600 is higher core count, cheaper, newer, and has m2 straight to the cpu, against a z170 board it's a no brainer, against a z270 again not really a tough choice, retailers are in a tough spot this time round, no mans land for selling off old stock, they btr come up with something or there gonna have a lot of right-off's.

sorry but this is cold. Better Z270 spec boards for similar price or just a little more.

There was a seller earlier selling these for £212, seller seemed legit but when I posted the deal was rejected by moderators as the seller wasn't UK based. Not sure how that's any different to the various Amazon EU deals that are posted but whatever.

Funny you should mention that... I almost literally need to build one tomorrow ;) Damn thing keeps offering me the Creators Update and failing. Clean install doesn't work ether, so I figured it's time to start afresh...

Thanks both for sharing what you know. I guess i will wait till the end of this year before refreshing my build. Planning on downsizing to a mATX. and currently rocking a 6600k and Z170 board.

CoffeeLake goes up to 6 cores, I honestly don't think 200 series chipset are going to support that. The leaked roadmap shows that there will be 2xx (280?) motherboards released way after 3xx motherboards - they want to mil early adopters on the CPU AND the chipset and only release cheaper chipsets much later. Allowing backwards compatibility would mess with their cow milking plans.

Still nothing concrete to go on... The latest rumours (take with a pinch of salt!) are that 8th gen processors might work on 200 series boards just without processor graphics working. Haven't really seen anything about 7th gen working on z370 though.

Repeat that back to yourself.

The problem is you just say things with nothing to back it up. when presented with evidence to the contrary, you say nothing let alone have anything credible to refute it.

See, the thing is, you are only replying to the things you want to/can. I recommended the G4560 at 60 quid, I also suggested its hard not to consider the 7350k at 136 quid. I also said that I wanted you to show me a sub 80 quid B350 board *that was good at OC'ing*. You didn't do that, you simply found the cheapest board that looked like it had a z270 equivalent. Same name, not the same board. I've taken 5 minutes to read reviews of the B350 board you posted, I wouldn't buy it, I wouldn't recommend it. I saw enough in 5 minutes to know it is more trouble. I had one line about the 7350k, which you JUMPED really hard on. @And the I3 7350k at 136 quid... It's hard to not consider the value there. That's all I said, I didn't even recommend it or suggest it, I said consider it. You may have a CPU cooler already. Anyway, I will be absolutely clear. The G4560 is a good buy. The 1200 is not. You can get a mobo, cpu, ram for 183 quid and that's with the CPU priced at 67 quid, mobo 57, and ram 60. Since we're not OC'ing the G4560, and getting straight out of the box performance, we don't need to spend the extra on RAM or MOBO and we still get the gaming performance and single threaded application performance. I've done similar builds with the 1200, and I can't pull myself to get it below 250 quid, unless I choose not to OC it, then that makes the build a waste of space, as a non OC'd 1200 is just crap. Anyway, all this might be moot when the new set of I3s come out shortly.

You suggested a i3 7350k not me! 1) Can you find a cheaper cooler that supplies similar kind of cooling? Using your Intel CPU without a cooler wouldn't be a good idea. The AMD cooler is fine for a mild overclock (see reviews). Once you get above a certain level it's not worth spending 20% of your CPU cost on a cooler that supplies you 2-3%. But it's nice that AMD give you the choice unlike Intel. 2) It's cheap because it's an AMD board, but it's a good board. I listed the identical speced z270 board and to quote you "The Z270 boards, sub 100 quid btw, are all rock solid" See you saved £3 on the mobo. Nice job. I still really think you should buy a cooler. Seems a waste buying a nice fancy Intel CPU and it shutting down on anything other than the windows page because it's overheating. But you answered my point the i3 7350k is not a great deal (that you suggested it was) when only £50 more you can get a 7600k.

1) You whacked on a 13 quid cooler. Don't pretend the Wraith cooler isn't anything but marketing ploy. 2) That mobo is 30 quid cheaper for a reason, it's not good. 43 quid 'saved' by just choosing cheap parts. Let's play the reverse game as well. After 5 minutes on pcpartpicker (in stock items) I5 7600k, MSI z270-A Pro, and 8 gb of ram is 355.85. Do you not think it's worth 22 quid more?

After a quick 5 mins on pcpartpicker (in stock items) Ryzen 1600, Asrock AB350M Pro4, Corsair 2x4Gb 3000 MHz = £332 i3 7350k, Asrock z270 Pro4, Hyper T2 (cheap £13 cooler), 8Gb of the cheapest Ram = £312 Do you not think the extra £20 spend is worth it in the long run?

Not as far as I could find out. There are one or two boards that can be updated without a processor fitted, but I don't think this is one of them. It may be a case of getting the cheapest processor that you can find that fits just to do the upgrade, or else a local PC shop should be able to. Anyone else any ideas?

Does anyone know if this is compatible with Samsung 960 Evo M.2 drives? The QVC SSD support list and PCPartPicker suggest not, but I'm not sure why this would be? I've bought the board so want to check, I can't seem to find many others of the Gen 3 NVMe spec that are confirmed to work. Thanks! Ps. Ebuyer must have run out of the cpu fans they were giving away with this, it's no longer included.

Can you update BIOS via USB? I've bought this but after a kabylake, and my first buld so no other processor to use

Just some info as I was looking to use this with a KabyLake 7500. I spoke with ebuyer and they could not confirm the BIOS version and were unable to find out what it was. For a KabyLake the BIOS must be later than F.20, if it isn't , then it can be updated but only by putting a skylake processor in place, which I don't have. As the 7500 I was looking at and a 6500 are similar prices then without knowing the BIOS level and not having a skylake, I can't buy this - but it's still a good deal.

Yes it can, I am using 3200mhz Ram without an issue.

Ryzen currently vs the 7700k (the top intel per core performance). The i7 loses in various games nowadays.

Thanks for the sound advice guys, Think I will hold out for a bit longer!

Other advice is generally to ignore Nate. He's as pro Intel as they come.

Purely as a gamer, the I7 is better. There is actually no comparison here, and I doubt anyone will disagree, the I7 series is better at gaming. However, I would actually skip any upgrade for a bit longer, the 2500k is a great little chip, keep an eye out for the next two intel or amd offerings as you will benefit a lot from this renewed competition.

The concept of multitasking is for CPU intensive tasks, such as rendering (So, if you were doing streaming with software encoding while playing games, if for some reason you don't use hardware encoding). But if you are doing gaming+chat/video *watching* or other things, and your focus is gaming, the Intel 7700k is a better CPU for you. Q2 of 2017 has the I7 8700k coming out as well, may want to take a hold and see how that does, may reduced the 7700k prices, the ryzen prices, or offer great performance.
