Don't buy it now, wait until Choice day sale at the beginning of next month, it runs for 7 days at the beginning of each month.I picked up 2 from both sellers, Comet Crash Global and Hardware Global Store on Choice day sale earlier this month for £274 in total. I didn't know the USD trick else they'd be a bit cheaper. They were delivered in a tiny little box, packaged well. No bent pins though the CPU from Comet Crash did have some residue at the top, which may have been from QC, people buying boxed units have reported this. The one from Hardware Global store came in an AMD labeled tray whereas the other came in a standard, non AMD labelled. I didn't have to pay anything extra when they arrived in to the country. What USD trick?

I bought one of these from Scan only a couple of weeks ago to upgrade from my 3700x. If you're on the fence about it, absolutely do this upgrade.

I have a 3080FE and play at 1440p and upgrading to a 5700X3D has unlocked so much performance in my PC. I didn't appreciate just how badly the 3700x was bottlenecking my GPU.

I didn't want to jump on a 7800X3D because I'm waiting for the next-gen of X3D chips to be available as awell as the next gen of GPUs before I do a full rebuild. This upgrade was to tide me over until then and I'm very happy that I did. (edited)

Have had my eye on this one for a few weeks. Wondering if there's any way around that VAT? I will be visiting China in a few weeks so may go through taobao to find something cheaper...
    fishmaster's avatar
Yes are you an owner of a VAT registered company? If you are you can claim the VAT back. I get that corporations are experts at tax evasion, but if you want a functioning economy then we really really really do NOT want to be supporting China undercutting UK businesses, morally it's a bad look. Some people don't care but when the she height hits the fan and it is coming then you will have been directly part of that.

When you evade VAT you directly screw over UK business. Then you'll complain, we are in 1938 currently this is how bad the situation is with global security and people are so short sighted they will use an aggressor to help them evade tax. Shameful.

You're saying advise me how to evade tax and hoping to use a Chinese company to help you evade tax in the UK. As I said when the time comes you people will be the first to complain. Stop being part of the problem.

Makes me angry, dismayed that people just do not realise what the current global situation is and naively support it for short term gain. It is madness, ludicrous even. Yet I will get comments in reply to this that support that position, which just shows you how hopeless things are. (edited)

This is cheaper because 20% VAT is not applied since it is above £135

Pay in USD to get cheaper price (edited)
    Enterpart's avatar
    it's $184.58 vs $181.54
    or £4.63

the more expensive one has over 900 sold with 4.9 rating , is a silver member so wants to protect their reputation more, has higher store rating. I can't believe anyone would risk buying a CPU from a store that has zero reviews let alone something that cost £140

also it's still a chance custom stops you , which means you have to pay tax (and vat) , and the tax will be
£28.15 then you'd have to pay VAT also (on the price which is higher of)

I mean unless you can get the seller to write down a much smaller value of $20 on the box. not sure I would take the risk to save £4.63 on this. If the seller had reviews it's different, no reviews means I rather go with the reputable one
  5. qwertqaz94's avatar
Hot, had one from comet global for ~£142 a few weeks ago, big upgrade from my 3600 and much better value than some of the UK based deals.
    dcx_badass's avatar
That's the upgrade I'm thinking of doing so good to know it's worth it.
  6. ScottB28's avatar
Are these legit? I've seen a few things about people getting fake GPUs etc, just wondered if the same can happen with the CPUs?

The pictures in the reviews show multiple different CPUs in CPU-Z (edited)
    Shangheli's avatar
It’s aliexpress of course it’s not legit lol. These are probably factory rejects that didn’t pass qc
  7. Enterpart's avatar
we should all be grateful that AMD pulled a rabbit out the bag and got competitive against Intel, otherwise you'd be paying £400 for a 6 core without 3d cache at much less performance.
I'm also glad we are having arm chips from qualcomm, and also heard Nvidia are planning to add stuff, competition drives innovation and reduces prices. Glad Intel are crying, greedy bastards were charging over $1000 for a 6 core back in the days.
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
im surprised your comment didn’t get taken down for the b****** word
  8. jabbada's avatar
I got one of these paying a lot more as my 5600x died.
I wouldn't have been able to justify it as an upgrade - but actually i really feel the difference. The stability of frame rates is much better - even if it doesn't get "better" benchmarks - it just feels muuuuch smoother and doesnt drop at all.
The benchmarks make it seem like a total waste of money. But it is noticeable
    Just my 2p

I bought one of these (from this seller) on AliExpress and it was an absolute bargain. Similar price but did have to pay VAT on it when it arrived. They marked the Parcel as having a value of $50 so only had to pay 17 euro in Ireland. (edited)
    Galwaydave's avatar
Actually sorry it was this store I bought it from. Highly recommended.
  10. Lee.Nathan's avatar
This store has decent deals on AM5 CPUs as well which may interest some.
  11. slipthru25's avatar
I'm using a 3900xt at the moment with a 7800xt, am I going to see much improvement if I upgrade to this CPU?
    morty's avatar
Depends on what you use system for?

3900xt if you are using for production will beat it but if you want it for gaming this is better option.

I wouldnt consider it in your case anyway 5800x 3d upwards only is better way to go in future.
  12. peepoHappy's avatar
Is this worth it as an upgrade over Ryzen 5 5500? I don't play esports and don't need fps above 60 or 120 depending on the game.
    nobbynuts's avatar
Probably not. You'll see maybe up to 20% gains. But that's not a guarantee. But won't see it in titles like cyberpunk or GTA V
  13. Amazing's avatar
Terrible deal imo. You can sell your current AM4 setup which still go for good money on ebay and get the ryzen 7600 from amazon germany for £154, which outpeforms this CPU. No worry of being hit by import fees like I was recently for a graphics card (I had to pay around £50 on top.)
b550 and b650 motherboards cost around the same. DDR5 ram can be also be found cheaper if you put in the effort to find them. (edited)
    ShamWow's avatar
    Disagree.

In my case to replace a b450 MSI Pro Carbon AC i would need to be spending about £140-150 on a B650 Motherboard and could only fetch around £50 on ebay for my old board. Decent speed 32GB DDR5 is about £90-100 and i could sell my 32gb of ddr4 for around £50 on ebay.

So that's £150 extra cost to buy a new AM5 board and ddr5 and selling my old AM4 parts as compared to just sticking a 5700x3d into my current am4 pc.

If you're building new, i would go for AM5 but it doesn't make sense value wise to move up to am5 imo
  14. CAL23's avatar
Not worth it if you already have a 5700X and use a 4070
    Lee.Nathan's avatar
This is probably aimed at those still on Zen 2 and prior CPUs wanting an upgrade without shelling out for a whole new motherboard and RAM.
  15. Jay_Patel6cq's avatar
I upgraded from a 5600 and saw a decent increase with my 3070 fe. Great high fps on 1080p
  16. laurenkatelkj's avatar
Import duty and hidden costs. What if it arrives dud? Great price if all goes well... otherwise... not sure this is worth it.

Risk of important duty as over £135 isn't there?
    blake4100's avatar
    it’s mentioned in the description
  23. khodos's avatar
Do you guys think this might get cheaper in choice days?

as others said, this is being taxed by aliexpress. maybe try getting something from the same store to bump it over £135 and it would effectively be an additional discount / free item?
  24. slipthru25's avatar
Another utube video comparing some of the older CPUs to the 5800x3d. Doesn't seem to be worth it from what I'm seeing.

    (edited)
    fishmaster's avatar
Firstly they're using an RTX 3080 12GB and they are using 1440P as the max resolution. I'd be pairing this with a GPU above the level of a 3080 even with a 3080 you can clearly see the performance increases at 1440P with the 5800X3D, the 1% lows will be far more stable as well. It's not worth it if you aren't running higher resolutions and pairing with a high end card.
  25. fishmaster's avatar
If this is a real deal, then it absolutely destroys anything Intel offers in terms of performance for gaming at this price.
    arex805's avatar
Intel these days is struggling big time to compete with AMD in most cases.
  26. TobyJT's avatar
Tempted to get one of these but I just know I’ll either get a dud CPU, it’ll get lost in shipping or I’ll get hit by customs making any saving pointless.

Just seems like a gamble, especially if AliExpress don’t put the value on the package. I’ve looked at the comments of these types of CPU deals before and they’re often filled with “Never got my CPU and it’s been months, no response from the seller” style comments.
    Enterpart's avatar
If you have a credit card that doesn't charge to convert into USD you'll save like 2.5% so for me it comes out to £144.84, now if you get stopped by customs you have to pay 20% vat which will cost you
    £173.808

    but here are some reviews

"Arrived within good time (8 days), packaging was sufficient. The CPU is genuine and works perfectly, a great saving over UK prices - I paid £150 TOTAL - no tax was added at checkout and no import tax. 100% recommend this seller, thank you!"

"arrived in about 2 weeks to UK, no customs issues and CPU is new with no bent pins"

You always read the reviews, and check out the rating of the shop. All these check out for me
and aliexpress always side with the customer. if you have any problems, you don't have to talk to the seller. just open a case with aliexpress, show it's a dud and they will refund everything, done this and everytime it's been good. the price is cheap compared to what you pay in UK
  27. Rory_Mullan's avatar
    Any good motherboard for this?

This or AM5 for a new build?

I'm so out of the loop on these things. (edited)
    slipthru25's avatar
Are you gaming? I'd go with AM5 for gaming as there is no upgrade path in AM4 this better for those who already have the motherboard and RAM.
  28. dcx_badass's avatar
I'll probably order one but might as well wait for the start of the month to combine with a $8-10 coupon.
  29. Super7's avatar
I need something with the best of both, I want to get into 3D designing and rendering.
So I would need to look into something with more cores and higher GHz, non X3D?
Maybe Intel would be better for me
    3DS's avatar
Yes, the main thing you want is more cores for rendering. This is good for gaming if you already have an AM4 motherboard.
  30. RahulMacwan's avatar
It shows me £148.22 after vat
  31. xmal's avatar
It's all a gamble really. Potential duty and tax added, DOA, Returns, bend a pin on the build, etc, etc. If you are really strapped I would probably buy a second hand CPU on CEX with warranty over this. I can see the cheap price, but I also see the potential negatives....
  32. ws007's avatar
can't remember now, is it £135 cut off for customs?
  33. seqq's avatar
What about 5800X which now runs with xfx rx 6800, mostly everything in 4K 21:9. Is it worth changing to this one or 5800x3D?
    slipthru25's avatar
probably not. Take a look at some you tube videos to compare.

thats the before taxes and fees price. the current deal is £123.77 so its only actually an 80p saving. but i guess 80p is still 80p...
