Can I get some opinions on whether Paris is worth doing or not? I've been told some questionable things and just wanted abit of clarity from the hukd community. Thinking of going with the gf so it's a couples holiday I'm after. Thank in advance all!

Worth a trip for 2 nights. If you find somewhere near to a metro station then you are sorted. Plenty to see and do.

We did the London to Amsterdam a few weeks back (to go to see Depeche Mode) and it was such a slick experience, far better experience than flying. 100% would recommend.

We done train Paris and flew to the Dam. Definitely a bargain price and more chilled than flying.

I went on Eurostar from London to Antwerp via Brussels. The conductor on the Brussels to Antwerp leg said something about I needed another ticket or something along those lines but I was under the impression that any connecting train was covered with eurostar ticket. I was on some 'medication' so don't remember much apart from that, he let me off anyway. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you choose the right ticket option?

Good luck if risking this service. We were booked to go to Lille a couple of weeks back and got a casual text less than 24 hours before to say the trains were all cancelled due to the French lot striking. Never again, the stress that caused us to then try and find a way over the channel!

The same would happen if you flew and the french lot went on strike at the airports, as they often do

the only problem with Eurostar that it doesn’t stop in ashford or Ebbsfleet in kent as it was designed to do
    Bulliedbyhotyewkdeelz's avatar
You say that like it’s a bad thing.

Wish there was decent times for this price to Amsterdam going on a Thursday/Friday and returning Sunday/Monday. Only way you can usually do it for this price is if you leave London at 6am.

I know many people that would leave London anytime of the day for Amsterdam

I did Rotterdam a couple of weeks ago with Eurostar and honestly, was really surprised. Not as pretty as Amsterdam, of course, but a very cool place, some really funky architecture. Felt like there was plenty to do. Really comfortable journey by Eurostar (I did have an issue with delay on the train on the way back due to a security issue lol...).

    Mandatory return!!!
What makes them think that I don't want to come back in the UK.
    fab3rge's avatar
Made me laugh "mandatory" - exactly! What are they going to do?
Assign a guard with you to ensure you return to the UK?

Would love to use this service to Amsterdam but being based in Staffordshire just doesn't make sense in comparison to flying, time spent travelling etc.

Eiffel Tower - if planning to visit the summit, book it online in advance!
    Jonathan_Brooks's avatar
The summit? As in the top top bit? My wife is a wheelchair user so I think we can only get to the middle bit? Am I best to prebook?

Going mid March so a couple weeks

Used this a few weeks ago for Amsterdam, it was great.

It's a shame it would cost me far far more to get to our 'great' capital. If its convenient for peeps to get on and off it's a good deal. And as others have said it's waaaaaaay more chilled than flying.

OP , might want to add "Eurostar" to the title.
When I search for Eurostar deals, this one doesn't show up. (edited)

Paris is a great city, just use your head and don't go to certain parts late at night , book decent insurance before you travel that way your Covered for strikes etc.
    hamsterboy's avatar
Ahahahaha, Striking is a national past time in the land of "Cheese eating surrender Monkeys" credit - Groundskeeper Willie

Also, trust the French to invent parkour, an actual sport where the aim is to run away. (edited)

Same deal every month, same discussions in the comments, same positive experiences, same negative experiences... This is so repetitive
