In some landscape scenes, the difference is quite striking, extraordinary value for money, if only for the cameras. The 7a keeps winning in blind side-by-side tests involving thousands of people against much more expensive camera-phones, if not quite up there with the best and very expensive models from OPPO, Vivo, Huawei, Honor, etc.
Getting back on topic, you do, if you went for the 7a, miss out on the 7 Pros telephoto lens and a few other 'pro' features that you might or might not value. For instance, with the Pro's selfie cam, you can shoot in 4K 60fps, rather than just 4K 30 fps with the 7a. Also, if you want smaller file sizes, unlike the Pro, with the selfie cam the 7a can only shoot in 1080 30 fps, where the Pro's selfie cam can shoot in 1080 60 fps. Also, the 7 Pro has 10bit HDR. Then there's the Pros better and stronger screen.

For what it's worth, the advantage the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have is they resolve a little more sharp fine detail than the 7a and there is less noise in low light.
It would be good to see if Google have tweaked camera performance on the 8a but, as I understand it, the sensor is not a camera upgrade to the 8 series, in the way that the 7a was to the 7 series.

I took my 7 (not pro) in a pool and it died in 2 minutes. people say to me "You're a mug to take a IP68 phone into water, IP68 doesnt really mean waterproof".... but if that's true then why advertise the phone with the statement above.
My previous IP68 phone (an xperia 5) had taken some amazing underwater footage on holiday the year before and had no problems being in, or near, water for 8 hours straight.
Why can't they simply list critical info like screen size and charging capacity is beyond me.
Sadly, I had to send the phone back within a few days to get a refund. Amazon didn't refund me within their stated 14 days. Spent over 10 hours on chat with them over the next week and got no where. N
Even though they admitted they had receive the phone, no one seemed to care or want to do anything.
Gave up and contacted my credit card company who have credited me.
After 20 years as an Amazon custome, I have now ditched Amazon completely.
Out of interest, what issues did you have with the phone?
I think it's worth your time checking out side-by-side comparisons, maybe you don't need the Pixel 8 Pro, though those extra years of updates and the AI stuff might be fun.
The disadvantages with 7 Pro is it doesn't do nearly so well in low-ish light situations, unless you shoot raw and use an app like Motioncam, which, assuming the video samples are what they are said to be, seems to virtually eliminate noise, albeit the files sizes are huge and would need colour grading in post, which possibly won't be worth the hassle to most. Also, I get the impression that Motioncam, unless using especially powerful hardware, sometimes drops frames, so might not be worth risking an important project using it.
A lot of 'pro' options with Google's Pro models adds to the appeal, I think.
