Overview
With the Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy S9, Samsung have redefined the capabilities of the smartphone camera, whilst refining their industry-leading design and feature set.

The 18:9 ratio Infinity Display returns, offering a near bezel-less front panel with Always-On screen technology courtesy of the Super AMOLED panel. Scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5 also now adorns the back of the handset to keep the phone in excellent condition throughout its lifespan.

Camera
With revolutionary dual-aperture technology, Samsung has redefined the capabilities of smartphone photography. By checking the ambient light of your surroundings, the main camera on the Galaxy S9 will switch between one of two f-stop modes - either f/1.5 or f/2.4 - providing you with the best possible capture.

Beyond still capture, Samsung has also improved on video recording with a new super slow-motion feature. When activated, you can record an incredible 960 frames per second. Use this during a normal recording or as a one-off clip. The effect is limited to 20 shots per video, which relates to approximately 0.2 seconds in real time, which results in 6 seconds of playback.

The post-capture editing tools let you effortlessly convert these slo-mo snapshots into GIFs for instant social sharing! Looking for an animated lock screen? You can also set a slo-mo clip as your background and watch it every time you unlock the phone!

Design
Curved edge-to-edge display. Slimline edging that contours to comfortably fit most hand sizes. An 18:9 ratio screen with near bezel-less edging to get the absolute largest display size possible in a handheld package. All of this, available in an array of metallic colour finishes, creates one of the most beautiful handheld devices ever released.

The Infinity Display offers true black reproduction courtesy of Samsung's brightest ever Super AMOLED panel, with dynamic contrast that adjusts the output to best suit the ambient light around you.

On the rear of the handset, Samsung has repositioned the fingerprint sensor below the camera for a more ergonomic placement. 3D Touch is also supported on the invisible home key, situated on the bottom of the front panel.

If this is an SM-G960F model you can put LineageOS 20 on it (Android 13) >

    download.lineageos.org/dev…lds

This is how to change the battery. If you're a seasoned pro it's easy, if not might scare you a bit but take your time. The important thing to mention, IF you pierce the battery with a metal tool you will likely cause a Lithium battery fire so take your time. I've seen it happen multiple times, and it's not nice, toxic smoke and fire can ruin your day >

Need to make sure to get a new battery. Dad changed his app said it was about 80% capacity, so better but not by much.

Can also put samsungs android 13 or 14 on this with oneui direct port from their later phone, I have 13 on mine, mostly use it for audio books and remapped the bixby button to play and pause. Also has the latest security update too. Notice the hukd app for a bonus point?

    No 5g

With 3g being switched off everywhere by most networks, anything but a 5g handset compromises coverage

I still use an old iPhone 6s as my driver for carplay satnav
Noticed more out of coverage than before since 3g switch off (edited)

Amazing, 02 sensor, heartrate sensor, easy fingerprint unlocking sensor, iris scanner, wireless charging, headphone jack useful for going on long trips in the car, charge and have audio output at the same time

Pretty sure it has a 2-3k resolution screen too (edited)

Yeah fingerprint is maybe quicker then my S23 Ultra. But it may have just been me getting used to it after swapping.

Great phone I think last to feature a notification light.

Indeed, I've just glanced down at my S9 and the green light shows me it's now fully charged so I can unplug it from my PC. My wife's S23 doesn't have that, nor does the S20 she had prior to that, or my son's Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. Why they don't put that on phones any more is beyond me. It's so useful.

Great phone, still works very well today and has some features now sadly long gone in newer phones.

Only obvious concern is the battery.

Mine is on it's last legs now although it has been used continually for 6 years so amazed it takes a charge at all. The phone you receive could well have a much better battery but obviously it won't be perfect no matter what.

Replacement is an option, but these days, finding a decent battery in itself can be a problem. Most of the genuine ones out there are fake and the decent 3rd party brands have pretty much all moved on to newer stuff leaving a lot of awful packs out there with well below stated capacity etc. This is the main reason I still haven't changed mine.

That aside, though, it's still a very decent phone after all this time.

The only modern feature this phone doesn't have is a high refresh screen and 5G. 4G is plenty fast anyway.

Brilliant phone even now, son inherited mine after upgrading to a S20 a few years back, only last month managed to kill the USBC port, did suffer with screen burn and noticeable battery degradation. (edited)

Get this and a portable monitor, keyboard and mouse and you have a very capable android pc utilising Samsungs brilliant dex service.

Loved my S9+, would still be using it if I hadn't dropped it, doh! Battery life wasn't incredible, but it certainly wasn't unusable either, still lasted a reasonable time. If it weren't for the drop I probably would have paid for a new battery though.
  18. jamie15's avatar
I remember having the S9+, the fingerprint sensor was painted on, the worst sensor I have ever used on a phone - paint chipped away over time rendering the sensor useless.

Can't recall there being any significant difference between the S8 and S9, but I'd not be buying either at this stage to use as a main phone!

polarcell.de/en this seems to be a good place to get a battery . They have S9 compatible batteries which are meant to be as good as or better than the original when new German engineering for your phone
