Does anyone know if this will be much of an upgrade over my 6 year old Hisense H50N5300 4K TV?

I'm not really bothered about the gaming and OS aspect of it, as I won't be gaming on it and will be connecting my old Android box to it. I just want to know if the picture will be better for movies etc. (edited)

Yes and no. Your Hisense model is from 2017, and is already 4k, and has an 8bit VA panel and direct LED backlight as opposed to the most basic LED edge lit. However it's smaller than this TCL, and doesn't have any HDR (high dynamic range) or QLED filters.

This TCL is a 2023 model, and is also an 8bit VA panel. It's also Direct LED, but has QLED and supports Full array local dimming with 120 individual dimming zones. Which is better than just direct LED, as there are far more LEDs split into zones. This should result in a brighter, more uniform picture, with better contrast. Along with the QLED filters which help to produce brighter more precise colors.

The TCL has a much newer and faster SOC with more memory and storage. A newer Google TV smart interface. Which should result in faster smoother UI and better picture processing and upscaling than your current TV. This TCL also supports all the different HDR modes Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG. (For reference Samsung don't support Dolby).

This TCL c745 is one model below the almost flagship c845 which is a full 10bit VA panel and has mini LED backlight with full array local dimming (similar to a Samsung neo QLED).

As for the best picture for movies, most people say OLED. For the best LCD TV, that would be one with mini LED and QLED. So Sony X95, x90, x85, x80, then Samsung qn95c, qn90c. Then either the Hisense U8, U7, or TCL c845 or this c745. Then Panasonic mx950, LG qned 866 or Philips Xtra.

As for best features for your money, that would be either Hisense or TCL as all the others mentioned above are far more money.

Here is a comparison of your current Hisense against this TCL - displayspecifications.com/en/…e30
