My company imported this from Spain until HUK took it off us in response to Coors taking Madri from a Spanish Craft brewer (and removing all of their web presence / social history at the time)

The brewing process is much shorter now, and the quality isn't as good.

This is why it's 10 cans for £10.

This the Heiniken UK answer to Madri as they see us gullible Brits coming what they churn out here. It has that Heiniken off taste and bitterness. I got done with this last month on a hot day when the line up of lagers was terrible where we found ourselves. Absolute hated it just like Heiniken, the best thing I swallowed what the barmen said saying it was Spanish! .... Ended up picking up a few Polish Zubr from the off-licence for the hotel room and all was well, that wicked off taste gone.

Coors, Heiniken, Carlsburg, AB InBev what totally boycotting. Massive scandal what they churn out over here, what's wrong with folks, try Czech,German or Spanish then all is well....why would you go back. (edited)

I had what turned into a full blown argument with a customer over Madri a few weeks ago.

The guy was wandering up and down the bar looking at the pumps. I ask if I can help, and he says he's looking for a nice lager. No problem! We stock Pilsner Urquell, which is (arguably) the best mass-produced lager in the world. Nope. Never heard of it. How about Peroni then? Usually a safe bet. Again, nope. "Why is your beer selection so crap?". "Were you looking for anything in particular?"... "Madri". Ah. One of those customers then - no point suggesting Estrella Galicia as all he's looking for is a generic British lager with Spanish branding. "How about a San Miguel then?". "I'm not drinking that Burton-brewed rubbish! I want something Spanish"

And this is where things got spicy I made the mistake of telling him that Madri is from Tadcaster, isn't distributed in Spain, and didn't even exist five years ago. Literally wound up with him yelling at me over the bar about how he's been drinking Madri in Spain since before I was born and that if I don't know what I'm talking about I should leave the trade

Fair play to Coors. They've done a cracking job on the marketing. (edited)

How is it we can't seem to brew any half decent pilsner style lagers in this country, when we can brew some epic IPAs ?

Think it's demand and supply. In contrast to the thriving craft beer market, which has also a culture thing running alongside it, about exclusivity and bespoke brewing, the masses that drink lagers will not simply spend the money on a lager. So your left with the big money, mass producing swill at a price that will be paid. If you want a decent lager mass available the UK and cheap, then buy Aldis Steinhauser. Brewed to the stringent German standards and actually good.

    Hot for the chalice.
Whether a tenner for 10x440 of 4.4% stuff is a deal is debatable.
    As for the taste...

Tesco openly calling it a Spanish lager it's a breach of trading and advertising standards, if it was for me to decide. (edited)

They should be had up under trades description for mentioning Spain and Andalusia in the description for this UK brewed, lower ABV garbage.

Anyone tried this UK brewed stuff? Love this in tiny cans in Spain.

It's nothing special, a few pubs near me sell it on draught.

I've never had the Spanish version though so I have nothing to compare it to.

Had loads of packs of beer but no glasses left at my local. Did they actually fly off the shelves or get nabbed by staff? 😜
