I was looking at the 128GB model, there is lots on ebay new/selaed from private sellers for around £360,.. do you reckon its worth paying the extra £60-£70 getting from Amazon? mainly to get an actual warranty?

I wouldn’t trust eBay sellers unless you can get them to send over a receipt for the warranty. Many won’t respond or will just say it was a gift. You’re better off paying extra in case of potential faults later on.

I went on a rant there but to summarise...It's a very good device seriously let down by the pathetic headstrap, attrocious battery life, and the dissappointing pass through camera quality. You have to think how much more would it have cost them to improve those. It would probably bring it inline with PVR2 Price but would stand above it due to it's wireless standalone use, multi functionality, and quality. Sadly they tried to cut corners to make it cheap/affordable as possible, but in the end made it look like a cheap VR device in more than just price. (edited)

What struggling student has almost £500 to blow on VR

Not all students are struggling. Many are quite well off.

VR isn’t for everyone. I bought the Q3 from a different retailer, using a 20% discount, which brought the price to around £380. This was my first VR headset after trying Google Cardboard and an old Samsung Galaxy VR years ago. but I found it underwhelming and overpriced for what it was even with the discount. I returned it after a week. The 3D movie playback was specially underwhelming despite all the hype I had heard; the resolution was low similar/worse than old DVD quality.
the big screen app cinema looked impressive though.

You must be joking, I watched an 80GB new movie in "4k" as long as the screen was big enough to show all those pixels - it was like real 4k. Any classics which were shot in a soft sharpness looked bad even if they were 60GB or more.

3d looked better than on q2, but still not like it should be on dlp projector. It was like 4/5.

That "bra style" head strap ruins everything, eyes have to be directly in the middle of the lenses otherwise the picture is not sharp, it's very easy with that strap to put the lenses too high/too low.

Picked one up last night and it’s going back to the shop on Monday. The battery life is atrocious and not acceptable for a device that costs £500 (edited)

Is it better than PSVR2? I have PSVR1, which I love but have a PS5 now.
    1978scotty's avatar
We have a PS5 but went with the Meta 3 mainly as we have one TV which has been adopted by Fortnite & Rocket League so the Meta will give the house an opportunity to watch tv. Good game discounts on Meta too which is always a great option.
Already have the Meta and love it but need to need to ask the internets biggest pre Christmas question, how do I reset Meta game progress? (edited)

I'm a heavy gamer and bought my first VR headset last week. Got the Pico 4 for £200.
It's really cool but I can't play a game for more than a few minutes. I get too hot and start to feel sick instantly. And if I play while standing up I can't hold my balance so I'm forced to play sitting down at all times, but a lot of games don't support that.
I'll stick with it and persevere because I want to love it
    dergal's avatar
There's a lot of solutions, or at least help - a desk fan helps because it gives you an orientation & keeps you cooler.

    Mint gum helps too

And there's other factors, but ultimately you get used to it some games are better than others

I held off on the PSVR2 as not enough high quality games out yet. I also spend 90% of my time still playing my PS4 games on the PS5 so not yet overly impressed with PS5 only games selection. So hel off and was convinced by a colleague and lots of youtube videos to buy the QUEST 3. Well I was very dissapointed as it looks nothing like the videos online. Hardly anyone mentions the terrible grainy pass through... I felt liek it was the quivelant of using the PSVR1 camera. Absolutely shocking and I let Meta know when they sent me an email asking for my experience or if I would recommend. sorry but it has so many flaws just like the PSVR. If I was to advise anyone regarding the VR equipment... I'd say wait another 5-10 years or else you'll be pretty underwhelmed. I do blame a lot on youtube reviewers not pointing out the very glaring downfalls. Most did mention the strap but very few if any mentioned the footage they showed was recorded and does not represent the actual in headset grainy quality picture you actually get. I also don' understand why the Quest 2 has 256Gb model yet the Quest 3 only has 128 and 512gb. Strange choice as you can't exactly just upgrade it if you decide you want to store more. Awful strap, field of view still looks like your viewing everything through binoculors. Battery life is also owrse than the Quest 2 cloking in at 1.5 to 2 hours at very light use. Hand tracking for me isn't very good either. So I'm giving this product a cold vote.

I actually really want one but don't want to pay £400 for something I reckon the novelty will die fast

Trying to talk myself out of buying this, currently have a Quest 2. Can someone tell me if Half Life Alyx is much better on Q3 compared with Q2?
    uthypranks_TV's avatar
its probably not worth upgrading from a quest 2. in terms of alyx, i played that on a quest 1 but yh u will get nicer frames and better resolution but that only depends on how good your PC is.

Kinda nuts hearing people using these to watching TV and youtube tbh, lol.
    Allthemoney's avatar
I think people are doing their normal chores like cooking and driving and watching YouTube on it at the same time

Does anyone know how to turn off voice chat and other players voices on the meta? Does it still come through on a 10-12 year old acc. Any suggestions for worthwhile games around that age too? (edited)
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
Some of multiplayer games offer to mute other players, however, a lot do not as they rely on communication between players to play.

If they like Fortnight, then Population One is very similar. It would really depend on the type of games they like on other platforms. There is a wide range of games out there.

    128 or 512gb?

512GB is recommended if you can stretch to it. The games are getting larger too.

I will return my q3 512 as it gets that reddit.com/r/O…_3/ reddit.com/r/O…me/ from time to time, buy it from somewhere where nobody force you to keep it if it's faulty.
    Nujol's avatar
That thread is 2 months old and it’s reported that the problem goes away with the most recent software / that Meta have replaced no questions asked if it suffers this issue.

Who would force you to keep it if it was faulty? A second hand seller?

I mainly use my Quest 3 for watching movies and YouTube. It's fantastic because I can use it in bed without having to connect it to my computer. Plus, I don't have to negotiate with my daughters about TV time when they want to watch something else while football is on in the living room.
    nufc1979's avatar
In bed? yeah I watched movies in bed with mine too 👀
  21. sgm400's avatar
Use mine for AC SIM racing and the apps for gaming, perfect for that!

Agree with other comments battery is terrible 1.5 hours if your lucky, the passthrough quality is poor and the standard strap is rubbish!
I fixed both by getting a portable power pack with USB c to c connection with 30W output. Also got the elite strap from a well known Chinese outlet for a fraction of the price!
