Can you freeze raw shallots? Yes, to freeze: (1) Peel, then slice or chop shallots; (2) Place in airtight containers or heavy-duty freezer bags, or wrap tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
How long do raw shallots last in the freezer? Properly stored, they will maintain best quality for about 10 to 12 months, but will remain safe beyond that time.

Not a bad deal, but the deal image is completely unrepresentative. I bought the 300g of shallots for £0.15 today & there were on average around 5 in each bag, not 10 as shown in the picture. Anyone expecting a bag of shallots like the one in the image is going to be disappointed.

10 in mine and all the rest
    looked the same
    Thanks again OP

Found a bag in the garage last week that I'd missed from Christmas last year, still perfectly usable.

Lol I'm surprised with that! The thing is when stored properly they can last for ages... Same with garlic and onions (edited)

The package states 300g. I certainly found some out at Abbey Wood Lidl that were in excess of this and so expect some variation. Of course if you're not happy with the weight of your purchase take it back and ask for refund........................

Saw them at my local Lidl, but they were not very nice. Checked a few bags and they were off. Put me off getting any, as it may not store well. So, be careful when you buy.

Who'd have thought such a tiny onion would get such shallot of heat. (edited)

You must have been unlucky. All those I saw in Lidl (some British but mostly from France) were excellent quality like last year and a mixture of sizes. Was using last years well into February....................

Think Lidl is the only Supermarket that includes shallots in their Xmas veg bargains, so heat from me just for that. These definitely beat onions in a risotto or even roasted whole/halved with some oil/thyme/balsamic (edited)

    Beef bourguignon on it's way

Great. Echalion / regular shallots are £3.50/kg at all supermarkets (loose or bagged), so at 50p/kg, it's a fantastic price.

The Lady of Shallot, is also a poem by Tennyson, muse on this as you chomp on your veg!

I’ve not managed to see any in the two Lidl branches I’ve been to in the last couple of days. Hopefully they will be getting more stock in.
