Do you know what you're buying or would you like some help with that? Not being sarcastic by the way.

Probably not as good a deal as the other recent Schwinn bikes here, as this is steel and is going to be heavy, and the gearing is very limited. This bike looks like it's been designed for Amsterdam, not hills.

I think the classic retro style looks great though- and the extras add a lot of value: the rack, mudguards, chain guard, kickstand and a sprung saddle.

Not hills? I used to ride 5/10 gear steel frames up many a big hill on a regular basis. That was a real work-out. I've never been convinced of the benefit of riding a flyweight bike - doesn't exactly stretch or build the muscles or exercise the heart IMHO.
I guess they're ok for the midlife crisis mob.

Why bother? Will be landfill within 5 years when you realise it’s pants and no one will buy it off you

The one place it won't be going is landfill, it is steel so completely recyclable. The only bikes that go to landfill are carbon fibre.

    What do you mean hybrid?

Hybrid - as I understand it - means not a road bike, not a mountain bike but somewhere in between.

I'd be wary of this after the last Schwinn deal, if you know little about bikes, like me. The front wheel alignment was way out for me, the front wheel needs "trued" and both front and rear brake pads need adjusted to stop rub, according to the Halfords bike tech.

Think it was around £54 to get it all fixed, which I may just have to pay as bicycles now have their own complete language, which I don't have the capacity to learn just now in order to fix it myself. (edited)

Lol every time I've tried to true a wheel I've royally messed it up and made it worse. Spoke tool and a few youtube videos don't cut the mustard tbh. Like haircuts I'm happy to leave that job to the pros tbh.

The clue is in the last two words of the title of the deal.

The price is great, but I'd be wary of these bikes: got slated for being unsafe (inc' Amazon reviewers saying the pedals sheared-off at the metal connectors during rides, risking fatal accidents on roads!).

Driving to Sweden in the summer. Three of these purchased to go on the bike rack and being left there with family. Given the price of hiring a bike for 2 weeks is more expensive than buying these they should serve us for 4 or 5 summers minimum at a fraction of the cost of what they’d otherwise cost to buy anything over there!

    Thanks OP

I don't know which factory this bike comes from but the world's biggest bike manufacturer, fuji-ta does very cheap robot welded 1040 steel frames which match the strength lightness ratio of the lowest chromoly steel plus they are phosphate dipped for corrosion resistance and paint adhesion and according to fuji-ta have the lowest failure rate of any of their frame products. This is a better steel that used on many of the older entry level steel bikes made in Europe which I think was 1020 from memory.

Actually very decent steel frames despite their low price however the one disadvantage I think is they aren't as easy to re-weld if the frame fails. I think 1040 is more difficult to weld than 1020. 1020 is a mild steel (easier) where as 1040 is a medium strength steel.

So actually despite the low price of many cheap steel bikes from Asia they are significantly better than older European and US made non-chromoly steel bikes. It really depends on what factory is used but fuji-ta are a huge manufacturer with plants in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and one year they made 17 million complete bicycles and also sold millions of frames to assembly plants in Europe, China and other assembly plants around the world. The scale of their operation is staggering.

There are some good videos on youtube about them and also they have a decent website. They have made a huge number of bikes for Bianchi, Specialized, GT, Cannondale etc, etc. They make steel, titanium, aluminium and carbon fibre frames.
