sorted byI think the classic retro style looks great though- and the extras add a lot of value: the rack, mudguards, chain guard, kickstand and a sprung saddle.
I guess they're ok for the midlife crisis mob.
Think it was around £54 to get it all fixed, which I may just have to pay as bicycles now have their own complete language, which I don't have the capacity to learn just now in order to fix it myself. (edited)
Thanks OP
Actually very decent steel frames despite their low price however the one disadvantage I think is they aren't as easy to re-weld if the frame fails. I think 1040 is more difficult to weld than 1020. 1020 is a mild steel (easier) where as 1040 is a medium strength steel.
So actually despite the low price of many cheap steel bikes from Asia they are significantly better than older European and US made non-chromoly steel bikes. It really depends on what factory is used but fuji-ta are a huge manufacturer with plants in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and one year they made 17 million complete bicycles and also sold millions of frames to assembly plants in Europe, China and other assembly plants around the world. The scale of their operation is staggering.
There are some good videos on youtube about them and also they have a decent website. They have made a huge number of bikes for Bianchi, Specialized, GT, Cannondale etc, etc. They make steel, titanium, aluminium and carbon fibre frames.
