Chinese version so no warranty, nearly 2 months for delivery and also stuck with chinese version of magicOS so no android auto among other issues

This looks like the best phone in the world at the moment.
    DxoMark rank it
    1st display
    1st battery
    1st selfie
    2nd Audio
Doesn't look like camera results are in yet.
3 day battery life and super tough screen make it even more desirable. I hope there are decent unlimited data deals by the time my contact is up for renewal in October. (edited)
    jamie1156's avatar
They have given it No1 for camera as well ✅

I expected better launch offers than a useless 12 month free screen protection which not many would need.

    Waiting game begins
    OBone's avatar
Agreed, I thought there would be better deals, with the 5 pro there was free wireless headphones, wireless charger and an case, the plug and clear case came as standard in the box.

Even with the V2 there was some headphones.
  4. RandomTask007's avatar
Was tempted by this but decided to go for a 3 months old Honor 5 pro from Ebay for £493.
    ezzer72's avatar
Be careful mate, that could turn into a pretty expensive brick if it was taken on a contract and the seller gets tired of paying.
  5. ezzer72's avatar
Thanks for posting Switchy, I'm all ready to order, but just wondered what your thoughts were on the likelihood of the deal getting better in the next few days - trade in, free headphones etc?

I'm not sure how long after launch those things happened with the V2?

    Any insight truly appreciated please

I think there will be better offers, but not immediately, surprising they aren't offering a freebie now being honest, but suppose £250 off they think is good enough.

Bought the honour magic pro 5 back in Nov but would consider getting this eventually. The battery, the spec and everything you can't compare to other Androids like Samsung. Honor are in a league of their own
    Rellik088's avatar
Also bought a Magic 5 Pro.

By far the worst software I have ever used on a phone.
  7. DariuszTech's avatar
Brilliant phone. Amazing spec. Great camera. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this phone during the MWC launch in Barcelona. I'm currently compering camera with the best camera smartphone on the market in my opinion Vivo x100 pro and they go head to head.
    vassy4u's avatar
Saw your initial impression video of the phone. Looking forward for your comparison.

How does this compare to the new OnePlus 12?

All set up now and very impressed so far, hope any other new owners are loving theirs too.

No biggie, but I can't seem to get the 'Magic Portal' feature to work, if anyone has any tips they'd be appreciated please

I received it today and these are my first impressions and ofc just my opinion:

Display: best display hands down - had tried the S24 Ultra and had experience with the M5P which was better than the S24U. This is a bit better than the M5P (probably due to brighter HDR but more than that it's the clarity/maybe tech that is kind to the eyes that the Honor devices have which are a level above others)

Speakers are very impressive, louder than the M5P from memory and better to my ears than S24U although I never pumped the S24U too loud as I found the lost a bit in the loudest volume.

Cameras: I haven't tested these in depth at all and last time I got bitten by the M5P with rainbow banding that not many people reported but was very prominent on my device and Honor support said it was due to the camera glass so returned it so won't make a judgement yet. I have been quietly impressed though with my tests so far. More aesthetically pleasing than the S24U indoors and less saturation than M5P on the green grass outdoors (that's a good thing as M5P would be very heavy on the green and blue saturation). The green still pops in comparison to S24U in overcast conditions but not too much which I personally prefer as I found the S24U bit flat. Clarity and detail seem very good though so far. The one thing I noticed is that the lights can cause a a small halo around them however I tested the camera by putting the focus on a bright lightbulb and it was able to capture the metal contacts inside clearly which I was surprised about (I tested this with a mate 20 and that wasn't able to do that) so maybe a software improvement can eliminate. Selfies are better than M5P for sure. Ultrawide is wider so need to test the stretching effect a bit more with landscapes where you would normally use it.

Battery: can't really comment but the charging speed is very very good considering the higher capacity so no worries there and absolutely feel no battery anxiety as the M5P was awesome and this should be even better according to battery tests others have done.

Other: absolutely love the face unlock - very accurate, this thing works in a very dark room as I pleasantly found out! Other android devices I have tested haven't been able to do this but need to test this further to fully confirm.

Edit: confirmed the face unlock works in a completely dark room with the display being at minimum brightness. Very impressive

So far quietly impressed though but just need to see if the cameras fit my needs as the only reason I had returned the M5P was the camera.

Tip: change the animations to 0.5 in developer options to make the UI a lot more snappy (edited)

not worth upgrading from 5pro at all.
    phil.willis's avatar
I'd honestly say this is universally true of upgrading from any current gen flagship to the next gen flagship. Whethers it's Honor, Samsung, Apple or any other brand.
  11. Percy247's avatar
This will be £650-700 in 6 months time. The price of these niche phones tumble very quickly. If you really want one at a decent price, then just wait.

Personally, I wound never spend more than £250 on a phone or £350 on a tablet. For this you can get a Xiaomi device that is 80% of the device for 25% of the price.
    ezzer72's avatar
It's predecessor is still £749, so I'm not sure it will be as cheap as you say.

I'm happy to pay an extra £100 or so and not have to wait - life's short. (edited)

    No charger 👎
    OBone's avatar
In fairness, I think there is a lot of pressure on these companies about being more environmentally friendly and not filling landfill with old chargers, however I suspect the main motivation is it's cheaper for them.

They are useless with cashback. Check the reviews. Worth a go but wouldn't hold your breath. Definitely allow at least 12 months to get it....

Just got this phone and I’m very pleased with it. It functions almost exactly like my backup P30 Pro.
Got this to replace the 13 Pro Max, as I personally found the user experience terrible. Though it does now feel I have almost exactly the same phone…
  17. Joshfount's avatar
Not a bad deal at 850 considering the specs but only a good deal if you can take advantage of the 50% off Pad 9 ♨️
  18. DCollector's avatar
2.5x optical zoom is a let down :/

But somehow I'm still tempted lol
    vassy4u's avatar
Yes exactly. Most have gone for 5x optical.
Magic 5 pro head 3.5x. Which was decent
  19. Itssocheap's avatar
I’m finally getting out of the Apple eco system and opted for the Honor Magic V2 as posted here a couple of times. It does look an awesome folding phone. The online £1699 asking price is laughable and Argos and Very actually have it for that price
Using the £500 off plus free £150 Bang and Olufsen headphones from Honor makes it a bit more of a respectable price.
    Hundal45's avatar
Did you get the £500 off after trading in any phone? For example a crap phone for £9.you get £500 off?
  20. Biiizn3ss's avatar
Is this the nearest thing I'm going to get to a Huawei with Google? I'm still using a p30 pro just because I like it
    Maverickz's avatar
I would say yes, I was on the same boat as you.
My P30P battery isn't gerat any more, only can handle about 3000mAh and I have to keep deleting video/photos to save storage as I only have 256GB.
I would keep using my P30P if I can make the storage larger.
So I bought the 16GB+1TB version, and works great so far.

10% for me, their code matches one above but different to the one emailed as a honor subscriber/member so make sure you use the 1 they listed.

Mine arrived today with tablet/case/charger - not sure how much protection their case offers, lifts camera off table and bumper corners.

    Everything just downloading on both

Does come with factory fitted screen protector (edited)

Absolutely amazing phone! Especially after P30 Pro nothing could really satisfy me in any regard to a smartphone. This feels like a successor in that field, even if it is priced higher, I believe will do me good for a couple of years instead of buying something cheaper and regretting for longer period of time.
    pinkcam101's avatar
That's really helpful, thanks. I've had my P30 Pro for 5 years now and been waiting for a worthy successor. I had a new battery in my P30 last year, so will probably hang on a bit longer, as it's still doing everything I need it to.
  23. deleted2672869's avatar
I'm tempted by this one and the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra. I've watched a few videos to make up my mind. It seems that Xiaomi will be shipped in the second half of March. I'm going to buy the Xiaomi because it has slightly more RAM, it comes with the photographic kit and the tablet. It seems that the Xiaomi tablet has better specs than the one offered with the Honor. Also, it seems that with Xiaomi I have the option to pay with zero interest in 24 months with PayPal credit. I'm currently using a 3 years old phone and I was tempted by the Honor Magic V2 but there was no IP rating and the CPU is older. The tablet will offer the bigger screen I sometimes need. Any thought, feedback, advice why I should prefer one phone instead of the other or wait for something else? Thanks
    ezzer72's avatar
I haven't done any research on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but personally I would choose the phone I wanted first and foremost. It sounds like yoir decision is geared towards the tablet differences.
  24. p9dyl's avatar
Does anyone know if the base magic6 will be coming to the UK? I like that it has a flat screen and most of the specs are comparable to the pro.
    DCollector's avatar
The 6 lite? It's already out.

I’m tempted to buy this, however, if I don’t like it for whatever reason, I wonder how open Humour customer service will be with returning and refunding. Anyone has had experience of that?
    JessieTheDog's avatar
Absolutely no problems at all. I've bought a few honor products over the years and returned a couple of them without a hitch. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. I really like the m6pro myself but am not long into my oppo. If I was up for a change I'd be right in there. Go for it! (edited)
  26. Bottle's avatar
Got mine today. Ordered the case.. It doesn't give me a lot of confidence as the camera still protrudes. Found a cheapy one on amazon that looks like it covers the camera area too.
  27. BeerGoggles's avatar
The mark up on phones must be ridiculous, I'd be surprised if it costs them £200 to make this.
    ShamWow's avatar
The parts alone cost far more than that, let alone R&D, Vat, Shipping, Distribution and shipping
  28. s_mQR4's avatar
Phone companies have the public in the palm of their hands with this flagship nonsense! People are prepared to part with cash up to and over a grand for something that will only ever be a phone! Its all bells and whistles past a certain point
    DCollector's avatar
I think if buying for the first time then its fine. However replacing a phone every one or 2 years "just because harry next door has one..." does seem pointless and a waste of money... Lifecycle should be minimum 4 years unless something breaks tbh.

Is wonda still the best place to purchase one or is it cheaper somewhere else with as good customer service ?

I've had my Magic5 Pro since release, it does everything I want and more, but I'm still tempted by the 6!

As everyone says, it's a shame they aren't offering better incentives to buy at launch.

Succumbed to temptation this morning (together with 8.5% TCB) - I'm an existing Magic 5 Pro user but will sell that to part finance the purchase. It's probably the thing in my life that I use more than anything else, so I won't begrudge it.
