If you're looking a new build, better to go for am5 since the 7600x trades blows with this and is generally cheaper whilst also making future upgrades easier.

Honestly speaking, at this price, I would not recommend it.
The 5800x3D is 2 years old now, and even 2 years ago, AM4 was already on its way out.
The new 7000 series, even the 7600x is pretty much on par with this.

Save your £259, and invest that into an AM5 platform.
You'll spend more on mobo + ram + cpu. However that's the price to move generational platforms.

Hmm, really depends where you’re at right now. If you’re on a Zen 2 Ryzen 3 or 5 and want a fairly decent upgrade without a complete platform upgrade then this could be a good shout. I personally want to get some more longevity out of my AM4 platform and will probably hold out a couple more generation and go AM6 (or whatever is next) for a complete rebuild

You can get a 7800x3d for this price if you fly out to Japan, picked my up 2 days ago

I think the air fare might negate the savings a bit… that said, if you’re passing, why not!

If you are on AM4 and have an older chip like a R5 3600 for example this is a great upgrade, especially when paired with a top GPU.

My view is don’t buy this for a new build but for AM4 users on older CPUs this is a great bang for buck option

What's Currys IQ in terms of packaging these days?

Just wasted £100 of LoveToShop vouchers I got off work for christmas and now this comes up

It'll be sent in a plastic bag but I think that AMD would have packaged this well enough. It's the larger items (console, TV) that I've had issues with Currys and contrary to other people's experiences, I've always received decent customer service from them when it's come to returns and refunds.

If you have a employer portal, you can get further 5% off Currys vouchers, which would make this £246.50 (looking at £250 voucher less 5%, plus the £9).

    This is so expensive?

I upgraded from a R5 3600 to this chip. It's performs well but just keep in mind you will need a decent cooler as it does run fairly warm (and it doesn't come with a cooler).

Are you using the standard AMD cooler? If not what are you using?

    Cheers,

Torn between 5800x3d and 5700x3d. Looking at hardware unboxed on YouTube a 12 game average this was literally 3 frames more. 5700x3d can be had for £200 at very as new customer discount or this at £260. It's the concept that the 5800x3d may be slightly more future proof with a faster clock and 8 core compared to the 5700x3d that's making me pause. Price to performance 5800x3d is questionable. This is the last hoorah for my AM4 system and will set me years to come paired with my 7800xt, I want to make the right choice

yeah same. have a 5600x with a 7800XT and not sure whether to go for this and keep for a few years or just bite the bullet and upgrade to the AM5 platform.

Even then I may as well wait for 9000 rage of AMD CPUs.

I have a 4070 and a 5600x,would this really benefit me? I'm fine playing most games at 60fps 1440p and don't really need it to be in the 100s. I've got the money just don't know if it's really worth it (edited)
    stujeffrey's avatar
Won’t be a huge upgrade if you aren’t bothered going over 60fps. Depends on what type of games you play.
