Update 1
28/03/2024 Update - there were queries about the fan being included and Ebuyer CS confirmed a fan is included.
Excellent CPU for under £70 and a better choice than the 5600G/5500 because of it's PCIe 4 capability. Use the code to get the price.

Key Features

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is a desktop processor with 6 cores, launched in July 2019, at an MSRP of $199. It is part of the Ryzen 5 lineup, using the Zen 2 (Matisse) architecture with Socket AM4. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) the core-count is effectively doubled, to 12 threads. Ryzen 5 3600 has 32 MB of L3 cache and operates at 3.6 GHz by default, but can boost up to 4.2 GHz, depending on the workload. AMD is making the Ryzen 5 3600 on a 7 nm production node using 3,800 million transistors. The silicon die of the chip is not fabricated at AMD, but at the foundry of TSMC. You may freely adjust the unlocked multiplier on Ryzen 5 3600, which simplifies overclocking greatly, as you can easily dial in any overclocking frequency.

With a TDP of 65 W, the Ryzen 5 3600 consumes typical power levels for a modern PC. AMD's processor supports DDR4 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 3200 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. For communication with other components in the machine, Ryzen 5 3600 uses a PCI-Express Gen 4 connection. This processor does not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card. Inside the box you will not only find the processor, but also a Wraith Stealth cooler.

Hardware virtualization is available on the Ryzen 5 3600, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Programs using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) can run on this processor, boosting performance for calculation-heavy applications. Besides AVX, AMD is including the newer AVX2 standard, too, but not AVX-512.

Mine was perfect right until I got a unmissable deal on a 5800x3d

I bought my last 2 CPUs used from ebay buy it now private sellers.
Picked up a Ryzen 5600G for £85 boxed inc. free delivery.

    I missed on a bid for a 5700G that ended at £101.

    5600G replaced an Intel i7-920 Generation 1 with I think is a AMD 2GB HD5800 GFX Card. 16GB DDR3 RAM, X58 Chipset.
5600G is a lot faster, no more Mouse lockouts on busy Websites and 4K Monitor support.

Annoying that Win7 Pro Keycode (Win10 Pro) is locked to an old MB that came on a DVD for Education.

I paid £4 for a Win10 Pro Key on a different PC that did not register, called freephone MS and they gave me a retail code after a 2min chat. 2020.

Code wasn't entered in the usual way but I have since extracted the Key and done clean installs. Retail Key can be transfered to another Motherboard where OEM or College/Uni Key is locked to the MB when the Key is first entered.

Don't suppose anyone know if this is a significant upgrade over the 3350G?

You will lose integrated graphics but gain an upgrade to Zen2 cores from Zen+ and 50% more cores and 8 times the L3 cache.

On what planet, these were £170 at their 2019 peak

Not bad but personally I'd spend about £100 for a 5600 instead. (edited)

Bought one of these yesterday and this morning it has been randomly cancelled and marked as a customer return. Very odd.

Mine arrived just now and it's OEM but does come with a cooler. That's a relief. Needed this for a cheapo build and was going to go for a 2600/x but they're going for about £55 on eBay. Made sense to get this instead
