The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The future of civilization rests in the fate of the One Ring, which has been lost for centuries. Powerful forces are unrelenting in their search for it. But fate has placed it in the hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who inherits the Ring and steps into legend. A daunting task lies ahead for Frodo when he becomes the Ringbearer - to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom where it was forged.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

The sequel to the Golden Globe-nominated and AFI Award-winning "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," "The Two Towers" follows the continuing quest of Frodo (Elijah Wood) and the Fellowship to destroy the One Ring. Frodo and Sam (Sean Astin) discover they are being followed by the mysterious Gollum. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), the Elf archer Legolas and Gimli the Dwarf encounter the besieged Rohan kingdom, whose once great King Theoden has fallen under Saruman's deadly spell.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The culmination of nearly 10 years' work and conclusion to Peter Jackson's epic trilogy based on the timeless J.R.R. Tolkien classic, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" presents the final confrontation between the forces of good and evil fighting for control of the future of Middle-earth. Hobbits Frodo and Sam reach Mordor in their quest to destroy the `one ring', while Aragorn leads the forces of good against Sauron's evil army at the stone city of Minas Tirith.

Bought loads of movies like this on prime never again tho they've just stopped you getting atmos on your purchased movies unless you subscribe to their ad free subscription so another £3 a month or there abouts. So unless they change it back I'll be buying all my movies off apple itunes

I want to watch the entire 6 films, Hobbit and lotr, with my son, in 4k and Dolby Atmos, I was going to go for apple a they have the whole package in 4k which I'm not sure others do. I don't have a 4k player so I wondered what people would suggest as an alternative. Thank you for any advice

If I had to buy them on one platform Apple’s would be it.

To "buy" until they decide you don't own it anymore or go bust or shut down the servers.

For that price, just buy the physical release

And the player to play it on

You never "own" any such purchases. They can be taken away from you at any time.

Never buy anything like films and music unless you can play it without any DRM which has been basically erm.. Nothing

That's a good price for having an access to LotR EE all the time, no matter the place. 🔥

Running time of the three films:

    Standard 558 mins
    Extended 683 mins

Each to their own, but these are a bore fest for me.

Better bet would be Apple. Can often be got for around £14.99 (Dolby Vision + Atmos). Plus hours and hours of extras, if that’s your bag.

Although unless you’re a massive fan of the series, you’re probably better off buying it in the non extended format - as the director intended. These extended editions have a fair bit of pacing issues.
