Prices of the DS1522+ and DS923+ have only gone skyward in 2024 so while this isn't perhaps the greatest deal ever, it's the best price I've seen for a while.

Possible 2.65% TCB/10% student discount makes this look even more attractive...

Gigabit ethernet at this price is just embarrassing.

Looking to upgrade from my 2 bay Synology but waiting for a refresh to atleast 2.5GigE. (edited)

Yes agreed I have the DS920+ but would love a 5 bay, but the lack of hardware transcoding and only 1GbE are making me wait. I believe this unit does have a 10GbE upgrade option though! I presume refresh models come out next year?

That's a heck of a Plex server ..

It isn't great for Plex. The embedded Ryzen R1600 in it doesn't do hardware encoding/decoding

Surely at this price point it starts to look like a better option to build a low power consumption rig yourself in a tower with a lot more bays and install Xpenology, Unraid or whatever you like?

I’m still rocking an HP microserver and while I have a much smaller Synology unit as well I couldn’t bring myself to spend this much for what is effectively more bays and slightly better spec knowing I could probably build a cheaper rig that can be upgraded

I just shoved 7 3.5" drives for (currently) 76 Tb total JBOD in a Dell T20, Been running 24/7 for probably like 7 or 8 years.

Can I ask for some advice, please?

I have 3 G-Raid drives with bays, and I would like to use them for a NAS system. Could you recommend something at a much lower price tag than this offer?
