Worth upgrading from 5 3600? (edited)
    fishmaster's avatar
My rule with Ryzen 3000 series is >

IF new cpu cores = SAME as old cpu cores then DO NOT upgrade
IF new cpu cores > old cpu cores THEN upgrade

Which means it depends what software you want to run but generally I would say no I wouldn't upgrade from a 3600 to a 5600. I would upgrade to a 5700 / X or 5800 / X or 5700X3D/5800X3D depending on the price.

6 core to 6 core part no
6 core to 8 core part yes

    Worth upgrading from a R5 1600?

100%, make sure your motherboard supports this CPU. Check the compatibility section on the motherboard website. If it does then make sure you have the latest BIOS

Ive got this with a 7900xtx driving 4k 120hz. Perfect gaming CPU for 4k, performs identical to a £500+ CPU for that task
  4. Rumcajs_9's avatar
Any motherboard recommendation for that? Something with good value / money ratio. NN any extreme stuff.

    I'd get a B550 (CPU is pcie x4)

this gigabyte one is 80 euros - order with the cpu

I paid around £300 at launch. Damn so cheap! Still using it as I type this and still awesome!
    amanojaku8's avatar
Me too - I thought it was a steal in Dec 2020 for £220 alongside my ridiculously priced (I thought at the time) Founders 3070.

Next upgrade will be a fully new build and this CPU will definitely last that long IMHO.
  6. gowf's avatar
Wow that is a stonking price, it’s a bit older than the 7 series but this is hella good. I had an older B350 board and a simple bios update later I’ve been rocking a 5600. This is basically a binned version of the 5600. This will be amazing for a budget gaming build and I think will be good for several years to go.

Good price, not worth it to upgrade my 5600G though, I take it?

I use a 6750 XT and not the APU but I got it on a great deal at the time and what I saw with testing there wasn't much difference between the 5600/X/G
    Rumcajs_9's avatar
I wouldn't bother mate. For 6750 XT your procesor is fine.

Check the price of your procesor on eBay, if you can sell it for £90, then go for it. (edited)

What's a decent graphics card to go with this if I get a B550 board as well? (edited)
    carlos777uk's avatar
    6700XT or 6750XT .

I have the latter but recall several YouTubers saying this was a good balance
  9. mudddy's avatar
Is this worth going for from a 5600g?

Don't need the built in graphics anymore.
    xxbluedragonxx's avatar
No, there will not be much difference (edited)

Amazing price and surely the best bang for buck deal available right now. I recently upgraded from this chip, but I passed it onto my kid's build where he has it paired with a 1070 ti, and his performance in Helldivers 2 more than doubled.
  11. londonstinks's avatar
Worthy upgrade for my brother? He has a 3080ti running at 4k with a 2700x CPU.
    Rumcajs_9's avatar
    Worthy.

I bought the FX 6300 for the same price 11 years ago

    Yes that's normal.

    Really good price!
  14. Rumcajs_9's avatar
Thanks, bought. £92.5 when paid in Euro using Monzo.
  15. Martinmountford's avatar
Not just budget gaming this processor can handle any game you throw at it.
  16. James_Harking's avatar
Mine has arrived and working correctly now, I did have to try it in two identical builds with latest BIOS from Gigabyte, it booted in one but not the other. Very strange, however both systems booted their old respective CPUs.

Anyway, it's not massively faster than the 1800X in general usage it replaced, at least that's how it feels just doing daily activities. It does benchmark higher for games and feels a "little" faster to me. I think I just need some more time with it.

For the price this is excellent, the 5700X on Amazon Germany is also a very good buy.

Omg I ordered this yesterday, paid €111.22 / about £95
It's now €108.19, how low can it go..? (edited)
  22. xxbluedragonxx's avatar
Amazing price. This cpu sips power. Undervolt it and it’s even better value.
  23. spookytodd's avatar
Is this better than a 3600X?
    Alex_H's avatar
    Yes it is.

Great deal. If I hadn't upgraded a few months back I'd be all over this.

£150 about 9 months ago. Great deal!
  27. ScoobyZ's avatar
I bought this for £280 when everywhere was selling for £320! Great CPU.

    I currently have:

    5600x
    5700x
    7600
    7800x3D

This is the best value for the performance!

is it worth upgrading from a ryzen 7 1700x 8/16?
    James_Harking's avatar
I would say so, the single core IPC is substantially better than Zen 1, the multi core on this is about the same as the 3700X, so quite a bit faster than the 1700X too.
  30. Dan_MorganIrF's avatar
Is this worth the upgrade from my R5 3600.. I'm running a 6600xt
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
it is a good upgrade. Though some games may not see a noticeable difference due to GPU bottleneck. But that depends on your resolution and settings ofc
  31. DevilWithin's avatar
Would love to build a new rig but ITX parts are so expensive!

Can you order from Amazon Germany with UK delivery and not pay customs tax?
    Tacavas's avatar
    Author
Yes you can, no other fees to pay.
Customs duty may be charged on top of the headline price, usually on items costing more than £135 Information

BTW,if anyone wants a 5700X it is also on offer from Amazon Germany:
    hotukdeals.com/dea…103

Got to say this 5600X deal is still one of the best CPU deals I have seen this year!
  34. Rumcajs_9's avatar
Deal of the day: MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX Motherboard ATX, AM4, DDR4, LAN, USB 3.2 Gen2, M.2, MYSTIC Light Sync, HDMI, DVI-D, AMD RYZEN 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Ready amzn.eu/d/c…JRH

Will 5600x work with that motherboard? From what I read quickly, there is some beta bios but I assume I would need to get some older Ryzen first to install that bios?
  35. forsh07's avatar
I just bought this for a little more than this deal. Great CPU for what I use it for, Photoshop, Lightroom, Cura. Using a Gigabyte B550M DS3H motherboard which does the job.
  36. LloydChristmas's avatar
It’s now saying used like new (damaged packaging)
  37. alan.ag's avatar
I just made the leap to AM5 and was hoping to recoup some of my costs with my old components. It's a terrible time to be selling used stuff, rn.

Best budget GPU to go with this?
    Rumcajs_9's avatar
There was 6750xt for £260 few days ago. Rx 6800 for £317 was even better. Generally speaking Rx 6700XT is a solid choice.
  39. clsss's avatar
great price but delivery time is 1-3 weeks
    sergiup's avatar
True - if you're not in any kind of rush, it's great..! Having said that, I ordered one a couple of days ago and it should arrive towards the end of this coming week; Amazon do often dispatch earlier than they state, YMMV.
  40. John59's avatar
I'll comment again, this is an incredibly good deal for what is still a very good CPU, it's basically identical to the 5800X in gaming performance but has 2 less physical cores so would be worse in multi threaded situation. I honestly don't believe that is a big issue for most home users. And by the time it would be an issue the 8 and 12 core models will be cheaper than this anyway.
