sorted byFirst they want to survey your property (when they get around to it). They cancelled 3 home visits and eventually we had a zoom call where I showed them the property. I then had to take a load of pictures, more pictures than Kim Kardashians had. Then you wait while they asses everything. They come back and give you a list of things (extras to buy) earthing / upgraded cable / something else I can't remember). Then they messaged a few days before installation and advised that I needed to get my supplier to upgrade the box outside (another month wait). Then they came back and said "fantastic you've had the upgrade, now we need to make sure the grid will allow you to have it" . Another 3 week wait, then that was cleared. They called up about a week later and gave me an install date - 6 weeks away. Some local sparky came around and installed it under a day.
TLDR - you 100% need a sparky to install and despite my hassle, I would still go for this even if I didn't have an electric car. The reason is that the grid won't let everyone on your street have a car charger so get one while you can.
I have this charger and I`ve got it through the lease company for FREE (charger + install included with the lease). It is a terrible and unreliable charger & SW. I`m glad that it was free, because it doesn`t worth any money in my opinion. I`m considering to get rid of it and pay for a proper decent charger instead.
Made harder with the off peak tariffs having stipulations.
Octopus Intelligent seem to be the best but you must have a car which they support or an Ohme charger.
Ohme chargers downfall is that it only has mobile connectivity. after 3 years you then need to find a SIM deal on HUKD :-) Others simply have wifi or an ethernet connection) (edited)
The only people that seem happy with them are pensioners that have been with them years and well before they seem to stop caring. (edited)
You wasn't one of those that fell for that were you?
discretion, when your charge point charges an EV to reach its maximum battery level by the ‘Ready
by’ time you set. In this mode electricity consumed by your charge point is at no cost to you
they control when it reaches max battery - not sure how practical this is.
This kind of deal turning out to be like gen 1 smart meters. Ridiculous.
I am on the Intelligent Octopus tariff which is the ideal solution for me as we have 2 fully electric cars, all we need to do is switch cars in the Ohme app.
They were around £600 + vat but at the time there was a £350 grant
Currently Intelligent Octopus is 7.5p from 23:30 to 05:30 and 30.52p at other times.
The good thing with intelligent octopus is the 7.5p is for all the house use not just charging your car, so if you can schedule washing machines and dishwashers etc for the cheap perion you only pay 7.5p.
Also you sometimes get smart charging outside these times so it is possible to get 12 hours @ 7.5p if the car needs charging a lot. (edited)
