Retailers are extending their return policies for Christmas: Full List of Shops Extending Returns Policies for Christmas

We want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy a brilliant day out with us, to benefit from the amazing animals who live at ZSL London and Whipsnade Zoos, connect with nature and help us create a world where wildlife thrives.

To help people who might find cost or other challenges a barrier to visiting ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, our Community Access Scheme provides discounted tickets.

Tickets from as little as £3 per person
Help for Households

We know how hard things are for many families on low incomes right now, and we want to do what we can to help.

As part of our Community Access Scheme, you can now buy reduced price tickets for London Zoo ‘at the gate’ from as little as £3 per person if you are receiving Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance.

The £3 tickets are available for the whole family (under 3’s go free), from 11am every day of the week, and the current offer runs until the end of March 2023.

You’ll need to bring your proof of benefit letter with you to the zoo when you buy your tickets(s) from our friendly staff at the admissions gate (this can be an electronic copy if you prefer).
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to issue discounted tickets unless you are able to show one of the above documents (per household) as proof of eligibility.

Important notes:

These tickets are available 7 days a week to buy from 11am onwards
Tickets can only be purchased from our admissions kiosks at the time of your visit – they are not available online or in advance.
Regular admissions tickets, including those for anyone coming along with you, must still be booked online and in advance.
We’re operating a cashless system on our sites and we ask that you pay with credit or debit cards, or contactless payment methods only.
Due to the popularity of this scheme, there may be queues at 11am and on busy weekends, so we suggest arriving later or visiting weekdays to minimise waiting times at our ticket booths.

Those who are genuinely entitled to benefits, good deal for them.

For the fit and abled who are taking benefits, or those who are dodging the system, probably end up enjoying more (in benefits and etc) than the hard working people who pay taxes and then still have to buy full priced tickets and are left with nothing at the end of the month.

I’m a single parent with a job but I’m entitled to working tax credits. I think a lot of hard working people can still benefit from this deal. Millions of people receive one of the benefits below

Shame they never included disability benefits. They always get the least help and yet anything sold “for special needs” is twice the price. For those with disabled children, especially those that rely on electric devices heavily are some of the heaviest hit and cannot cut back. Many of them still work and care round the clock every hour of the day. Often at mental, physical and financial breaking point…. But they are never included on PR stunts like this…. It’s a cultural thing…. Same as in covid. Disabled were seen as acceptable loses.

    From their website:
Our Community Access Scheme also provides reduced price tickets (£6.50 per person) to people that have additional needs or disabilities.

There is always somebody with an axe to grind about people on benefits. Thinly veiled whinging about the deserving and undeserving as if we have never heard it before. If you all banded together and fought for better conditions for everyone then maybe you would be able to move on from it. Look up, not down.

Great deal though. Shame it would cost another £400 quid on the train.

This is great because in my experience (living on a council estate for many years) it's leisure costs that are the first to go and kids miss out especially.

However, many of those I know don't have transport so sometimes these discounts don't increase access as much as people think, even with the max £2 bus fare for a family of 4 that could be £16 in transport. Certainly our local zoos are pretty difficult to get to by public transport. (edited)

Do you get to eat the animals?

Yes if you go head to head in a locked cage. The staff are up for it as it draws a crowd

    adhkarzf's avatar
    There's no child tax benefit

You get child tax credit and child benefit

Hooray for those on benefits or earn below 30k.

Bad news for those that do work full time, pay a large amount of tax and those that dont take the mickey.

When the extra money for energy wasnt enough, have a cheap day out. (edited)
