LIKE YOUR FAVOURITE PAIR OF BOOTS

The OM-5 is not here to be flashy, steal the show, be in the way of your experience or even try to be the sole reason for your adventure. It is rather like your favourite pair of boots that lead you onto trails unknown; that bag that always has what you need, or that friend that helps you see the world in a beautifully different way.

INVISIBLE
So compact you barely notice it. A streamlined classic design that disappears in your bag but feels just right to hold

DURABLE
Noticebly tough. The OM-5 will tackle anything your advanture can throw at it. There's no bad weather for storytelling.

DISCOVER
See nature in a new way through computational photography-an ever-expanding photographic journey of discovery.

STORIES
When even pictures cannot do a story justice, turn it into a spectacular movie worthy of the journey you made.

A DEVICE OF DISCOVERY
Technology is only useful if we use it. The OM-5 has everything you need and nothing you don’t.
While the technology within the camera is impressive, the really exciting part is when it comes together through computational photography and other features. Here are the highlights.

TOUCH THE SKY
With the powers of Starry Sky AF and Live Composite combined, no celestial object is out of reach on your nighttime adventures.

CREATIVE FLOW
Class leading image stabilization and computational photography features such as Live ND will open up a new flow of creativity with movement.

COLOUR YOUR STORY
Capture every shade and colour your story the way you experienced it with features like HDR, Color Creator, and Art Filters.

VENTURE DEEPER
No camera can tell the story for you but the right bit of kit in the right situation can make all the difference in getting the shot or coming home empty-handed. But remember — sometimes missing the shot is just the thing you need to be able to make the most of the moment. The choice is yours.

how does it compare to a full frame?
    SpudUK's avatar
    A quick summary comparison:

    Advantages:
    - Smaller/lighter body and lenses compared to most 90% of FF bodies
    - Usually better IBIS as the sensor is smaller
    - Cheaper and big lens selection
    - 2x focal length makes telephoto entry point cheaper (so benefits wildlife for e.g.)

    Disadvantages:
    - Harder to achieve super shallow depth of field/big bokeh
    - Worse in low light
    - Sensor produces less data so much not be as sharp as a FF sensor at similar MP (lens will play a big part)
    - You have to suffer with people telling you that smartphones are better and to get a 'real camera' (edited)

This is a bargain price for a quality body.
Just add a decent lens such as a 20/25mm and you have a compact camera that can produce good enough quality photos for most of us in most situations.

I have full frame cameras too but often just take along my m43 for the convenience.
The full frame unfortunately spends more time left at home.

I also have a Fuji APS- C that's excellent but a bit of a jump in price.

What is a good value lense to buy to add to this? Just trying to see what total cost would be

Don’t forget that the OM5 is weather proofed. Add the lumix 12-60 (also weather proofed) and you have a great set up
    tt_321's avatar
If you really care about weather proofing, don't mix and match brands because if anything goes wrong, nobody will take responsibility. OK it's not as if anyone will take responsibility if you have the same brand, according to the small print, but you could always argue with a single supplier.

Is this good for F1 compared to an e-m1 iii for a similar price?

And what lenses would be good?

I'm going to imola and want to take panning shots

Does this suffer the same issue with bottom plates and tripods when screwed in as the em5 iii? (edited)
    aitchem's avatar
The bottom plate issue is supposed to be fixed with a stronger tripod mount.
Not sure about F1 but the OM1 is supposed to be better for CAF and action shots

Voted hot. Sorely tempted to upgrade my EM10ii at this price
    cheaperbythe12's avatar
    Decided yet?

    What lenses will you use/buy?

Also, unsure when this will arrive as shows Gmbh in the order emai so I'm guessing from Germany and no idea on whom they use to courier.

I'm planning on travelling to the Far East soon, can someone please recommend me a camera for a beginner that takes good photos? I have no idea about lenses etc just want something I can take decent pictures with other than using my s23 ultra, would love a dedicated camera or should I just stick to my smartphone? Thank you (edited)
    lehaandreev's avatar
Camera is not going to give you a nice pic just with one button. You gotta understand and mess with settings shoot in raw learn postprocessing for photo and video. If you just want a good result with one button use your phone, they are great for that
  8. tarasy's avatar
Nice. Already got an E-M10 Mk IV which is almost identical to the OM-5 but if you're in the market for a MFT camera this seems like a great option.
  9. Bbqueue's avatar
I'd love to treat myself to this but £700 for a body is more than twice what I've paid in the past (I've had some great misprices and cashback offers).

I doubt it'll get much cheaper but maybe there'll be cashback offers around Christmas? 🤷🏻‍♂️ (edited)
    jungleboy123's avatar
nothing going. Everything expensive now. Same tech sold 8 years ago was cheaper, just look at the sony A series.
  10. cheaperbythe12's avatar
Bought, thanks op. I was actually looking at these past month or so and was ready to buy used for 800ish so this seems too good to be true.
    yumenolala's avatar
It's a great price compared to the E-M5iii or other places selling the OM-5
    Enjoy the new camera! (edited)
  11. keeling54's avatar
Soooo tempted, have the OM10 iii and thats a brilliant camera.
  12. highspire2k's avatar
This is scorching! I was torn between this and the Fuji XS20 and plumped Fuji. For £700 this is unreal.
  13. Cockasaurus's avatar
Ordered one. I think i'd prefer an OM-1 but can't justify the price difference as I was originally looking at buying a G9 and pl 12-60.

Now need to decide on accessories to improve the grip and some lenses to take to Imola for F1. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Amazing deal. I paid £50 more for its predecessor less than a year ago. Now have to resist the urge to upgrade!
    Walpurgis's avatar
I’m probably in the same boat as you (assuming you have the M5 Mk III). The differences don’t seem big enough to justify the upgrade (rtings.com/cam….10) and, annoyingly, they haven’t implemented the new, clearer menu system of the OM-1 in the OM-5.
  15. yumenolala's avatar
    Hot price!
I can't buy another M43 camera although very tempting. (edited)
  16. alebaster's avatar
Whats the closest to Olympus OM5? Panasonic GH5?
    yumenolala's avatar
    Probably an Olympus E-M5iii

Panasonic GH series are more for video but can still be used for photos.
Panasonic GX series haven't had a new camera for a while.

Is it better than Sony A6000 ?
    vornstar13's avatar
I should think so. That's really old now.

    Looks nicer too.
  18. BarryZola's avatar
I've been looking at getting the EM5 mk3 to use with an Olympus 12-100 pro lens as an all-rounder photo & video camera (I mention video as the IS is supposed to be amazing on the EM5 mk 3, especially when paired with that lens). The video bit is fairly important for me.

Is this offer basically the same camera but slightly upgraded? Would anything be worse for me than on the EM5 mk3 that I've been waiting for a deal on? Thanks (edited)
    yumenolala's avatar
The OM-5 is the upgrade of the E-M5iii
I think all the improvements will outweigh anything (if any) the E-M5iii is better at.

The OM-5 omits an in-body flash, and does not ship with an external unit for its hot shoe like the E-M5 Mark iii did. (edited)
  19. RealGeek's avatar
Increasing and researching I’ll get Sony A6400 for around £689 with kit lens, but before that I have to sell my A6000 and A7
