Can someone help please, I've purchased the £40 PSN card for £34.99... now how do I get the essential, sorry I'm not tech savvy (edited)

51755957-xumQC.jpgWhen you press the 3 lines icon from the PS App on your phone or from the playstation it should give you an option to redeem a code. Type that code you were given into the and it should give you Funds of £40. Then go to subscription section of the ps store and pay for the ps essentials 12 months. You will just need to pay the remaining £1.99 from your card or PayPal if you have that connected

I'm just waiting on the basic one on a deal now for my new ps5. Sub expired in August.
    James_Branson's avatar
I renewed at £41.99 for Essential today, which is 30% off, via the PS app. I used Eurogamer to buy a £40 PSN card for £34.99. I couldn't get it any cheaper.

Is Extra worth the ~ £25 increase over the essential? Never had it so not sure.
    mattbat's avatar
You get a large selection of extra games to play including Playstation exclusives like latest ratchet and clank and Horizon forbidden west. So could be worth it if you've never played them and want to

My current sub ends on the 20 Dec, can i still avail this offer? Stack possibly…

Edit: just seen offer ends on 17th and still showing as £59.99 to resub:( (edited)
    David_Matthew's avatar
If you buy this deal it will stack ontop of your existing membership, that’s why when it’s on sale some people buy the membership 2-3x and you get 2-3 years of membership
  5. roirulz's avatar
Costed me £69.99 for Extra with the ps discount. Paid £72 to shopto for the gift card worth £80

For all those asking for better foreign options:
In an apparent overhaul of ps plus prices internationally in September this year, Sony has made prices in all developing countries roughly the same. Which comes to arround £38 for ps plus essential. I have checked turkey, Indonesia, and India. Now, this deal also costs you around £38 if you use shopto psn gift cards.

For existing customers who can't take advantage of this deal:
My subscription is expiring on 22nd Dec. Now, as far as I remember, there was no ps plus subs deal for existing customers last year (please feel free to correct me if I am wrong). I can wait for the sub to expire and then wait for a deal. But that is an if. Plus, kids will be on Christmas break and would need online play. What I am thinking to do is make another ID, and join ps plus essential on that id for the discounted price. Next year, I will use the old ID with the lapsed membership to get another deal.
In the meantime, if a deal comes up for existing members, I will stack stack stack.

    UPDATE

I was able to get the discount but via the PlayStation plus area on my PlayStation 5. The offer wasn’t on the website version for me.

To note my ps plus ran out this morning so may only be for new or lapsed sub
  8. NG16's avatar
Looks unlikely that the 50% off will happen again. :/
    TomEames's avatar
Looks unlikely that I will bother renewing my subscription in that case. The value for money has already plummeted since the price increases and I rarely get a chance to play nowadays anyway unfortunately
  9. TeddyBB's avatar
Tempting, but now Im asking myself do I really need it? Still have a good back catalogue of bought games!
    mariotakeiteasy's avatar
Think you've answered your own question there. I would play the games already paid for..
  10. dan44762000's avatar
How can anyone keep a straight face and proclaim PS plus isn’t value for money?
its 27p a day for Extra which is ridiculously good value for the entertainment that brings

you get one game at the arcade for a quid lol

people that moan about PS plus are weird
    cheesysock's avatar
It's not extra people are moaning about, it's the essential tier. Anyone who defends Sony's ridiculous price rises are the weird ones.

I keep getting the error "Something went Wrong" on checkout - any ideas?
    KP5's avatar
Ah yeah same error here - if anyone’s experiencing this, it’s a known error and can be resolved by logging into the console. Seems to happen on the app/web browser.

I've no idea what I'm doing wrong? I've bought a ps5 for my boy so trying to get the subscription sorted. I've just created a new account but can't see how I get the subscriptions for 30 percent off. The ps5 isn't set up yet and won't be until his birthday next week so I'm using my phone. I've gone through the comments here but can't see anyone else having issues. Is there a link that takes me straight to the right page? From the heat this is getting I must be the only one struggling. Any help appreciated. (edited)
    BoGoF's avatar
If you made your account and verified it and its running stay signed in then go to subscriptions it should show up when your signed in if it still doesn't show up then I can only assume its because your account is so new and may need a day or 2 for playstaion to register it...

Also worth trying is sign in via the app and see if you see it there too (edited)

I've gone for a year of essential at £38 with CDKeys. I don't think a little over £3 a month is terrible value.
    sjr84's avatar
Do you have a link for this please?
  14. Davejay81's avatar
Join the revolution if your sub ends beyond this date.. just don't renew it. But make sure auto renew is switched off!

You'll manage a wee bit not gaming online and playing your library.. pretty sure they do these deals to meet lack of demand which is usually high at least until around this month.

I'm gonna imagine they'll trend it and drop the subs til around mid January. They might not.. but it's a risk worth taking as yeah, it's ok value to go with Extra (Essential only gets you free monthly games to keep as before, and Premium is all the current PS4/5 games on Extra BUT also includes really old PS1&2 games)

Politics are hugely in play now along with our pretty weak lonely island economy.. but look at places like Turkey/India generally getting mega cheap pricing.. low subs and auto renewal = cheaper prices.

I'm seeing some comments above about stacking this onto existing but I see no way of doing this. Am I being stupid or is this not actually possible? My existing middle tier expires on 12 Jan and I just want cheap Essential next time around. Thanks.

For the existing sub offers you can stack however not from this particular offer.
  16. MeOldMucka's avatar
Were there any standout games on Essential that I missed out on from last December when they pulled the £25 offer early?
    cheesysock's avatar
Mass Effect trilogy was last December if I remember correctly. There hasn't been anything great since then.
  17. BubaMan's avatar
Heat - shame this wasn't available 2 days ago but a great deal for anyone who held!
  18. Cheap_as_Chimps's avatar
Been waiting since Jan for 50% off. Maybe this means i don't really need it at all?!
  19. snotters's avatar
Last year, as stated above, you got a 50% discount. Can't say I even used it once!
    kdal.dadsal's avatar
Agreed. I haven't even turned on my ps5 for a year... I did not renew my ps plus when it stopped providing any value compared to gamepass.
  20. Steve-O.2008's avatar
I'm guessing sometime between Christmas eve and Jan 1st it will be 50% off

The 30% deal ends on 17th giving time for a new Christmas day / new year deal

And the people that say it isn't worth it, anything under £40 for 365 days is value really considering you can go out on a Friday night and easily spend £100 on a few drinks , 2am food and a taxi home...
    custardy's avatar
Got a PS5 for my boys Xmas. Gonna hold out for a better deal.
We have Gamepass so Im not paying a fortune for a service only he will use
  21. hullk's avatar
My sub ran out last month and I'm not missing it at all, so not that essential I guess!
    Batfink30's avatar
Same, no intention of subbing again. Waste of money over the couple of years I had it.
  22. Gambini's avatar
LOL - the response from Sony Support.

This is NOT a discount or a sale, it's a MARKETING thing to encourage people to purchase an annual plan instead of a monthly plan!!
    51753890-LZSMZ.jpg (edited)
    Batesyy's avatar
Same thing as paying annually for car insurance really isn't it
  23. Sam_the_spam's avatar
Sounds really stupid... do you get the game catalogue with playstation essential? Ei FF7 intergarde?
    luffydude's avatar
This tier is not worth it. The middle tier is the best option
  24. WayneWalton's avatar
Just had £84 credit for £71.50 from instant gaming then bought Extra for 30% off leaving £14 in Wallet funds towards a game or stacking.
  25. sadman120's avatar
Waiting for Christmas sale, last year was 50% hopefully they do it again
  26. Outlaw.King's avatar
I get it's got a discount but this is still over priced. They put price up so you assume it would improve it's no different from what it was a few years back you get the occasional decent month but more often it's rubbish. Mines expires on 2nd Jan and I'm happy to take a break play my physical offline collection and maybe if it goes nearer the £25 price I'll resub.
  27. Outlaw.King's avatar
    Worth £25 no more
  28. Shukazu's avatar
  29. Bertage's avatar
Take it there’s no way you can get this cheaper? Like how you can get the 1 month non-stackable codes for gamepass

Paid £50 for 1 year of PS Plus Extra using ShopTo credit last year. The cheapskate in me can’t help but feel like I’m getting ripped off by paying an extra ~40% this year, when I still pay around £2-3 for gamepass codes each month, for a service that has more content
  30. matt.whats's avatar
Not voted either way. Cold for me as this is still way to expensive, but can understand if people may want to save a bit for kids Christmas.
  31. LeeWorrall's avatar
Mines currently expired since the 12th Dec and this year is my first time I have no care about renewing
  32. DarkyR7's avatar
I'm happy to see others aren't renewing. Sony jacked the prices just before my subscription expired (unfortunately).

I'm glad I didn't renew, it's actually much more fun for me to buy a game on disc, beat it, sell and move on.

As for multiplayer games, there's pc.
    stedaman's avatar
If you have a good pc, Xbox is the better option than Sony atm, especially when you could get xbox ultimate cheap and for 3 years, and then continue with it for free using rewards. (edited)
  33. AbuYazeedUK's avatar
I guess the original price has gone up so it's never gonna be £25. Cheapest £30 if we get 50% off.
    stedaman's avatar
    yes was expecting £30.
  34. Ministryofwarhammer's avatar
Watch people jump on this and it go 50% on Boxing Day
    The.Lone.Ranger's avatar
Has it been 50% off before? My sub ended on 4th so happy to wait around if it has been 50% off before.
  35. MRGRINGO's avatar
Pfffttttt... They've done this on purpose. My subscription ends on the 17th.
    gurdevshehri's avatar
Mine runs out on the 19th
  36. 6ixFoot1's avatar
Can’t see the discounted sub, probably because I have an active subscription. How long will PlayStation’s offer last? My sub expires on the 22nd.
  37. stedaman's avatar
How likely are we to get a better deal either around christmas day or in Jan?
I feel i should hold off for now..
  38. MeOldMucka's avatar
They pulled their 50% off .... £25 deal for Essentials last year by a few days or a week didn't they?

Now they want £42? Do one ...
  39. Erooz's avatar
It was around this time last year it was 50% off, I paid £25 last year and it runs out on the 17th.
There's no way I'm paying £59.99 when I've got Game pass until April 2025.
  40. LeeWorrall's avatar
Alot of my physical games ended up being on ps extra so I transitioned to the digital versions saves having to swap discs.

Well to really commit and not renew, I've just deleted a huge array of games that were locked and reinstalled all the ones I own, from disc again. Like others saying, have a huge backlog i haven't even played or finished, what's the point in having extra all you do is essentially collect games to never play. Now the price has gone up, with lesser great games being offered, I can't justify it. Thanks for waking me up Sony
