Apple Refurbished, so they will be excellent quality. 64GB can be had for slightly less, but doesn't sound like a very good deal. Employee benefit might include few % of Apple Gift Card discount, which is worth using too.

The only catch is that there is a rumour of Apple releasing the newer version in the next 3 months, which can be a deal breaker.

Good price, I bought mine £30 more new two weeks ago. Oh well! Owning this and an Nvidia shield, there certainly are pros and a few cons Vs both. The shield is much better for local content, the atv is great for streaming. It doesn't play with iPlayer as well as the shield, particularly subtitles are not present at all on atv also it doesn't show you your previously watched shows prior to watching them on the atv.

What is nice is the total app integration (except netflix), where you can search a program and find which streaming service it's on and then click the ep and it will load the app and begin playing. Really fancy. Also the gui on the atv is clean and not ad laden. The apple TV app is ad laden with a big auto playing line at the top and having many lines of atv+ programs which are annoying.
But one of the best things is you can auto upscale everything to Dolby vision if you want, you you can match frame rate and original content stream for HDR Vs Dolby - so it's pretty helpful Vs the shield which doesn't have either of these options

I just got rid of the apple TV because the remote was horrible, everything flashed black before it would play, Plex was horribly out of sync, no Dolby Atmos support, and even more issues. I'm now just on a £40 Amazon fire stick and everything works better. It has the match frame rate option too and works well

Did anyone notice better audio/video sync after switching from TV built-in apps to Apple TV? I'm using Samsung TV built-in apps, but I feel like the sound is still delayed a bit. I'm thinking maybe taking the streaming outside the TV could help? :/

AppleTV has this quite wonderful system where you hold your iPhone up to the TV and it ensures the sound and picture are in perfect sync. However, you need to be in the eco system for this to work as you'll need an iPhone.

    Random question …
Does anyone have recent experience buying an AppleTV 4k in the US and using it over here?
I believe the box itself should be dual voltage, so should just need a UK 3 pin figure of 8 cable.

Or am I completely wrong? :/
    captainbeaky's avatar
Yes it’s dual (universal) voltage so can be used anywhere - you’ll just need a new mains cable.

    Specs from the Apple website:

Line voltage: 100V to 240V AC
    Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz
    Operating temperature: 0° to 35° C (32° to 95° F)
    Storage temperature: –20° to 45° C (–4° to 113° F)
    Relative humidity: 5% to 95% non‑condensing
Operating altitude: tested up to 3,000 metres (10,000 feet)

Poor performance of my smart tv is pushing me towards getting one. But ya, I am also holding out for the 4th gen. Lol

I have a new Sony tv that had the worse line up of forced apps I had ever known because I was dumb enough not to buy an android based telly. I was going to get rid of the whole tv but instead got this Apple 4k box, it is brilliant and is now the only way we watch tv.

Ordered mine yesterday evening and came first thing this morning via UPS. Was planning on posting this deal myself. Was also tempted to wait for this years release but decided to pull the trigger. I have two other ATV and love them to bits. Fire thingys are destined for eBay or the bin

I've been contemplating a used one as my first ATV but seen the rumours so holding out for a new version.

Might be worth keeping an eye out for a deal like this:-

    hotukdeals.com/dea…240

Older gen than the one posted here but still buttery smooth to use.

1st gen remote gets a lot of criticism but I've never had an issue with it. Can always add the newer-style remote later if it bugs you.

Been happily using an Apple TV 4K for five and a half years but last night was the first time it let me down.

Tried playing a TV show on a network drive using the VLC app but it struggled and couldn't manage it. Tried a reboot and a different media player app, still stuttered like crazy.

Tried a test and played the same file on my iPad using the VLC app and it worked fine.

Try Infuse but check out my previous comment on surround decoding using it.

I am not sure if the 4th gen 4K will come this year.Apple got some issues with AI integration in their new chips so the upgrade is unlikely,Inhave also heard they want to introduce a pro version as well for gaming.Great little box but not worth the RRP.

Tempted, to get ethernet - which 64GB lacks - mine suddenly kept dropping connection a month or two ago, had to reboot it every time I used it. Is okay now so assuming it was a result of a tvOS update and could happen again :/ (edited)

    Says gigabit Ethernet on spec?
