Silly question but will this work with 2nd Gen? 🫣

You can learn more about the 2nd Gen Contact Sensor in our Help Center Article here. The difference between the 1st Gen and the 2nd Gen Contact Sensor is the physical design, as we made the 2nd Gen smaller so it is easier to use on different sized windows and doors.

So you need a security kit to use it ? Currently unavailable on Amazon

Yes, this is an add-on to the Ring Alarm system.

You can also use this with automation (Home Assistant, for example) and ZWave-JS.

I find them more reliable to use as automation to switch on my hue lights than the actual hue motion sensor, excellent find!
    Dealhunter15's avatar
Please can you advise how this can be done. I just bought the hue sensors for £30 each!

Thanks, purchased and hot! I just set up my Ring alarm, and I was debating if I still need an extra motion sensor. I concluded I don't need it, but at this price, I thought I may make use of it, so I purchased one.
Now I need an extra keypad. 1st gen is about £20 on line, but I could do with a better price. (edited)

Cheers OP, grabbed a couple to add to the living room

Had strategically placed one before as I’d ordered too few with the alarm.

Pity they don’t have lux sensors built in - I use ones from Ali Express on a SmartThings routine (when it’s dark and motion is detected, turn the lights on), but the batteries don’t last very long.

Cheers OP just got 4, to compare with my gen 2 ones, i prefer cr2023 over rechargeable aaa
OH B%locks there 123a. garbage. (edited)
    Nicolidus's avatar
If it helps, the batteries in gen 1 last ages
  18. Shakattack's avatar
Do you need annual ring subscription for this to work?
    Nicolidus's avatar
No, but you do need the base station.

Anyone have experience of both Gen 1 and 2 sensors? The Gen 2 is meant to be more reliable, it isn't just a change in form factor. I get a few false alarms with Gen 1 especially if sun come in through the window so thinking of replacing them with Gen 2 if they are actually better.
    gchild's avatar
I don’t have issues with gen 1 or 2 if sensitivity set to medium. Used to get false alarms on both types with high settings
  20. Ricky_Spanish's avatar
I already have a spare but bought 3 more.

I think I will be using one pretty soon as for some reason one recently started to occasionally stick permanently on motion detected. You only find out when you arm the alarm and it instantly goes off. Only removing the battery resets it. Has anyone else had this happen with a gen 1 motion sensor? It worked fine for years prior.
