Discounted for 12 months then goes up to £15

Same with their double data 60gb for £10 deal, goes back to 30gb after 12 months.

I know it's a monthly contract so can easily look for another deal in a years time, just highlighting this from T&C's (edited)

Just from my own experience having been with them for years. The price can indeed go back up according to the t&c's. But personally for me, it's just been a continuous rolling monthly rate.

It did go up one month to £20 from £15, I went onto chat with them and they put it back to the lower rate and gave a free month as a sorry.

Obviously I can't say this is guaranteed but they are pretty good.

Hated smarty when I was with them, between zone 1-4 London and the service was slooww... Since switched to Plusnet and then O2 and the service was miles better and faster.

    Must be your Phone...

Works faultlessly for me in Zones 1-4 London

I even hotspot to Laptop with TEAMS video calling and general browsing.

I'm currently with BT/EE with a 4G phone and my monthly contract is due to increase to £12.50. Gave them a call and their best offer is £9 per month for 20GB data plus unlimited calls and texts. This SMARTY deal of £8 for 50GB obviously looks better, but I never use that volume of data and the BT person seemed confident that the EE network coverage is superior (although using their online checkers both 3 and EE claim to offer good coverage for my city). I will need to give BT 30 days notice to leave and so will probably end up paying for two contracts for the first month if I sign up to the SMARTY deal now. Whereas if I switch to the EE £9 tariff that will apparently happen straight away. So it looks as though the total cost to me for the next year works out about the same for either option!

What would the value conscious, tech savvy minds of HotUKDeals recommend doing? (edited)
    KodaBear's avatar
If you’re taking your number with you, just get your PAC code by text and you don’t need to give them 30 days notice. Your number will port on the next working day after giving it to your new provider and close your EE account right away.

With that said. I would stay. EE is the UKs best network. Three (Smarty) is usually third place. Their network is worth the price premium and they know it.

What does this mean do I have to do something to keep the price £8

    As I read it
    1. you need to set up auto renew (within 12 hours of activation) if you hadn't already - i.e they take the £8 every month automatically monthly by debiting your card rather than you topping up manually whenever you feel like it
    2. if you change plans within 12 months, you lose the discounted price
    3. after 12 months the discounted price ends and it goes to full price.

With 2 and 3 if you want to keep your number - you can either try it on with customer services to get a new discount, or port you number out elsewhere and presumably you can port it back when a new deal comes up.

If you don't want to keep your number, you can cancel/get a new sim and number (edited)

They do the social plan for £12 a month unlimited everything for those on certain benefits.

I've been with them for years now with the £15 unlimited everything deal. Have 2 sims on a group plan, 1 for mobile and the other for 5G router which is fantastic speeds btw.

Any issues I've ever had (once or twice) the chat get back super quick and normally give you a free month as a sorry we messed up.

Very impressive for the money, Three have really been investing in their 5g network and ahead of the game now. Puts others to shame
    Richyroo's avatar
For some of us who don't live in the city, I would settle for decent 3g first.
  9. magpie2468's avatar
Great deal. I hope Three’s network has improved in recent years as it was good outside but wouldn’t penetrate buildings very well at all.
    Brabus_Duddy's avatar
If you think 3 is bad then STAY away from O2! They are the worst. I left 3 for O2. Is Virgin Media….WORST move I ever made
  10. Brad_R's avatar
Thanks, just copped. EE can do one!
    MgBossHogg's avatar
If only smarty had ee's coverage . And supported esims for both phones and watches. Maybe this will be the year a NVMO finally provides full support.
  11. mrdeeznutz's avatar
What's the cheapest way to get roaming in the US?
    KodaBear's avatar
Three pay as you go will give you free roaming with UK allowance up to 12GB. EE SIM Only will do a one off roaming pack for £10 to use up to 50GB of your UK allowance.

Otherwise don’t bother with roaming and just pick up a prepaid SIM when you arrive.

Also make sure that your phone supports VoLTE and that it’s switched on - The US is now 4G/5G only so without VoLTE you won’t be able to call at all. Most phones support it, but if you haven’t upgraded recently or have a device you imported cheap from another country you’ll need to quickly double check.

Customer service has absolutely gone down hill with these guys.

I last contacted them on chat a year ago and it was great.

Now I am getting conversations ended constantly and being connected to India.

Oh well... time to look elsewhere.

edit - took about 10 tries but eventually got it chanegd to £8 pm from my £10.

edit - Useless. Despite asking for the £8 change, just checked my account and they just stuck me on £15 per month for 50gb. Useless.

Everyone who has contacted chat check your plan as they may have stuck you on £15. (edited)
    KodaBear's avatar
If you want full UK customer service your only options are EE, Plusnet, Vectone, Ecotalk, Tesco Mobile and Asda off the top of my head. Pretty much everywhere else is outsourced.
  13. westspeed's avatar
Do they run a credit check on this plan
    KodaBear's avatar
No it's a pay as you go network. No contract. No credit check

    Just ordered!

Previously paying £7 for 6GB on Tesco Mobile

Do I need to inform Tesco Mobile to cancel the plan or given I have used PAC to switch from Tesco mobile then nothing further required?

My current £7 Tesco mobile plan refreshes in 20 days...should I wait closer to the end of that period before activating the 50gb smarty SIM or do I run the risk of missing out on this deal if it expires on Sunday... (edited)
    Mattyblob's avatar
You have to activate the Smarty sim within 14 days for the price to remain valid. Using the PAC is a cancellation to the old network so no need to do anything else
  15. Sliwka's avatar
I don't get this. You can have 25 GB of data on Three directly plus £45 Quidco and all three+ benefits. I don't go over 15gb of date over the month so this smarty deal is not for me.
    NIgelK's avatar
I don’t get this. I don’t know why people have to announce to others that a deal is not for them 🤷‍♂️
  16. Conkers816's avatar
Once I let go of this notion that I always had to have 4 solid bars of 5G and 3 billion gig download speed, I've found Smarty to be rock solid. I stream a lot of music and I haven't had any problems so far. Deezer and Tidal's higher rate service stream very well.

I'm moving to their social tariff from next week as I qualify even though I'll barely scrape the surface of unlimited data though!
  17. max_lan's avatar
Had to cancel my Smarty plan because my phone wasn't supported on 5G. Works fine on 3 with 5G. Smarty only gives me 4g and only about 150Mbit instead of nearly 1Gbit.

Also, I tried to post a deal a while back that you could buy a £16 unlimited data SIM for a month and with Quidco get £25 back. Basically you get paid £9 to have unlimited data for a month. HUKD didn't like it, said I couldn't include the quidco reward and then marked it as a duplicate of a completely different SIM plan. Why did I even bother? I gave up.

I left Three when they dropped EU roaming. Went to GiffGaff only to find that they didn't support Wifi calling or Volte (4G voice) which has been a bummer.

Smarty seem to have EU roaming, volte and Wifi calling?!
    t3r4's avatar
Yes, so do Lebara (Vodafone network) and Asda (also Vodafone), plus others do too like 1p mobile (EE network). All those have 5G, WiFi Calling, free EU roaming (ASDA capped at 5GB) and VoLTE. Lyca (O2 network) also has free roaming and eSIM but no WiFi calling or VoLTE, plus 5G is android only. O2's own deals can also be good especially if you have Virgin at home and they still have EU roaming.

There's a lot of decent networks and choice out there for now.

Lasted a week. Very poor signal despite what map says.
Even when a decent 4g signal showing things were either very slow or didn't work at all. Calls failed to go through despite showing signal. Calls of poor quality .
Cheap for a reason. Switched both the smarty Sims i had to voxi.

I signed upto Three £8 for 25GB and number tranferred over today from Vodafone to Three

Now I've seen this smarty deal and I'm a little annoyed. What are my options in cancelling and keeping my number and signing up to this SMARTY plan instead.

As I've already used my Pac from Vodafone to Three. Will it work again if I request Pac to move to Smarty. I'm still in cooling period.
    Hnk1's avatar
Yes it will. Go for it. I'll port the number first( let it port fully) and then immediately cancel the SIM

Signed up to this yesterday, found it buried in an MSE comparison list. Rolling 1-month contract and free EU roaming, no brainer.

Somehow they're owned by Three and use the Three network, but they're cheaper and with better contract options.
  39. Reading1800's avatar
In a village that supposedly has no Three signal but good O2 and EE. Tried those and signal was rubbish, tried Smarty as it had EU roaming and one month cancellation and bizarrely got OK 4g and 1 bar 5g signal which works remarkably well. Will try and switch to this now as on 12gb for £7.20 (don't forget if you have a group plan you can get 10% off).
  40. alex_uk's avatar
Good price but I do have unlimited for £15 and download speed in 5G is awesome, shame about upload - so in my area speed is 250 Mbps download and 1.75 Mbps upload
