I have an older Triban, the frame is marked 54, which seems to be the distance from the bottom of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube in cm. I quickly measured and I think mine is about 18 inch from bottom bracket to top bar, and 21 inch on the top bar. Mine feels a little small for me. And I am 5' 9''.

I had read that some were moaning that there wasn't a hanger on the rear. But mine has a replaceable hanger. And yes, pot holes are totally devastating. I totalled myself on one and bust every part of my body, no broken bones though. I like the bike. (edited)

The older Triban's had removeable gear hangers which is the norm across most brands even cheap Apollo's at Halfords (unless steel) but this appears to not have a removable hanger so its a bit of a gamble. If you come off a couple of times you may have to replace the frame if the gear hanger becomes weak through too much bending. Also this bike appears to have a fairly cheap/basic Microshift drivetrain. I'm sure older models had better groupsets like Shimano Claris. I sort of feel this bike at around £300 is about what it is worth based on its specification. Also bear in mind rider weight limits are lower typically on Decathlon bikes compared to most competing bikes. This might not effect you if you are already a cyclist with good fitness but if you are buying road bike to lose weight and improve fitness you may be better off with a different brand especially as I think this has a aluminium steerer with carbon fibre blades so the steerer and blades are glued together which can fail after a few years as the bonding breaks down. This is again a cheaper option. I'm personally not super impressed with the bike seems a compromise too far and quite a low quality bike but Decathlon seems to be a favoured brand with many but really bikes should be judged on an individual basis.

Cade Media on YouTube do a bit of a review on this model. Seems like an excellent entry level road bike.

There is also a disc brake version of this bike for a few quid more (there's a video about that one on their channel too) (edited)

Disc brake version unfortunately is not available on eBay

Thinking of getting this as my first road bike. Anyone know how challenging it is to put together? There’s no option to collect in store as it’s the eBay site

Generally boxed bikes just require you to put the wheels on and turn the bars and tighten up, the stem, which isn't too hard. But you can get from their actual site for £350 ATM. If you're a complete noob, and nervous about anything and need guidance, it might be £35 well spent. However if you have a local Decathlon brand, I'm sure they would service it and help you either way.

Not with the amount of pot holes on the roads round here 🙈

Get the disc brake version and fit wider tyres. The roads are a lot more bearable on 35mm tyres. Especially if you fit them tubeless and ride at lower pressure.

Would this be a good entry level road bike for the price?

Yes. I had a 500 when it first came out & used it for training/commuting/sportives. Would happily do any distance needed.

Superb entry level bike. If you brought a new one down the line it would also be an excellent commuter

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering if anyone is aware of similar entry level bike with with a 3 ring front chain set. Not confident that I'll be able to tackle hills with a 2 ring, especially as I often have heavy panniers etc.

Triples are a bit out of fashion these days. Though it's the overall ratio that matters rather than the small ring size.
Eg my triple has a 30T front and 25T largest sprocket on the rear so a 1.2 ratio.
This likely has a 34T front (compact) with a 28T large sprocket on the rear, so is actually very little difference at 1.21

Great find. Pitty no medium. I'm a bit late on this one

They run really big apparently, so a small can actually fit up to 5ft 10"

Shame the state of the roads make bikes like this a bad option near me
    Rhakio's avatar
You can put gravel tyre for that

Reminds me of the legendary Triban 3 Red - which I’ve still got and use with 25cm tyres.

Mine arrived today, once set up had a quick go and genuine surprised with how good it feels. No rear mech hanger is the only concern
