Monitor Audio Monitor 50 Bookshelf Speakers (3G Series) - Black
This product comes with a 5 Year warranty.
The compact Monitor 50s are designed to be placed in a bookshelf type environment and they deliver a surprisingly powerful performance for such small speakers.
Monitor 50
The Monitor 50's modern square cabinets complement the 51/2" MMP II drivers and 25 mm black C-CAM tweeters. By placing the tweeters in the top corner of the speakers, Monitor Audio has been able to reduce the size of the cabinet and give a unique appearance.
The compact dimensions, driver technology and rear port allow the speakers to perform in the most confined locations. As the cabinet is rear ported, the output is well damped and is suitable for placement close to a wall. A single set of high quality gold plated binding posts provide the connections for a suitable amplifier. The Monitor 50s certainly sound bigger than they look.
Monitor Key Features
• Classic Monitor Audio speaker design with a playful twist
• MMP II (Metal Matrix Polymer) driver cones
• High overall impedance (8 ohms) – easy to drive with lower power amplifiers
• Black C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium) dome tweeter – derived from Monitor Audio’s award-winning Bronze series
• Creative use of 51/2" and 61/2" drivers have delivered a compact bookshelf, floorstand model together with larger bookshelf and floorstander to complement larger rooms and higher power applications
• HiVe II (High Velocity, Low Noise Reflex Port) technology – for an improved transient response and tighter bass, due to smoother airflow
• Black, white or a walnut finish, with contrasting grey baffle
• Can be wall-mounted using Monitor Audio FIX-M Speaker Mount, utilising its rear fixing point

9/10 review, tested at £160 avforums.com/rev…72/ These are passive speakers btw & would need an external amplifier to work. (edited)
Mixed feelings at avforums but its old thread now and some seemed more concerned with shape rather than reporting on actual performance. For this price i am sold though. Cube speakers are not that common and they are GREAT for small desktop setup when combined with cheap amp.
I actually own some Auratones that are referenced in the thread and LOVE them but were lot more expensive
Big heat added!
I got these in September in white for £95 on a previous deal from Peter Tyson also. Even at that price they are superb speakers, with great sound quality! Plus their footprint is small, so perfect where space is limited (for example book cases or shelves). Also, they look better than the pictures show in my opinion.
Highly recommended. Get a pair before they sell out
I've just phoned them and it's definitely for a PAIR!
Brilliant deal, heat added...I bought 2 pairs
Beware tho if you want to wall mount these....looks like you can only do it with the monitor audio mounts....£49 each!
Arse bananas
I tried a NI address (in County Down) on Amazon & they will send it there for free despite being the same seller! Where's the 'rolls eyes' emoji when you need it!
Have been thinking about whether I should get some better ones as they were bought with a Sony STR-DB895D and I got a more recent Denon X2600H
Edit Never had a sub, anybody recommend one not too expensive, is it worth it for £300 max? (edited)
Keep your eye on marketplace. I find Q Acoustic speakers to be fantastic value for money second hand. I got some 3030i speakers I use as my front L+R for less than £150 not long ago. And then a 3090c as my centre for just over £40. I have these speakers advertised here as rears.
As regards a sub - if you are going to spend £300 then definitely have a look at BK Electronics. For the money you spend you will get about the best value. Or keep your eye out for anything by SVS. I'm sure others will have advice too but if you are on a budget then have a look at marketplace.
This is a cracking deal. I have got these on my desk rigged up to a Denon RCD-M37 amp. I've also got them as rears in a 7.2 set-up. They are good sounding speakers for both purposes and you can get them pretty loud. There is plenty of bass without distortion. The ones I got have an orange cone though like in the pic attached. These look like the black cone version. Not sure what, if any, difference between the two.
For this price they are a steal.
Orange cones looking great, thanks for sharing
Heat! In case you miss in description there is WHITE variant as well...
Stupid question, but is this for a pair?
Yes absolutely
There is also a REVIEW on youtube by guy who has interest in speakers. I am happy with their presentation and remember, he was reviewing it at £100+. At £40ish, i dont care if speakers are not the best at audio "seperation" at high volumes.

Thanks for that, AnkerMan
He was quoting an asking price of £175 And ended by saying many of the speakers he reviews he sells on or takes apart but he's keeping these. I wonder what he'd think to them at £41.65!
What's the bass like on these? I'm unsure if I need them!
You need them.
Great deal, my first ever passive monitors. Any good budget (<£100 starting price) amps I should keep eye out for to go with them?
Thanks, OP. I took a dive for my first passive speakers to connect to TV. I am also going for Aiyima 07 Pro amp to go with it. Does that make sense? Now am I right that I connect them up this way?
I'm really new to this, so any advice/suggestion is appreciated.
That amp would power these easily and that wire is perfect to run from amp to speakers assuming they will be less than 2M from the amp. The only thing I would say that unless you are in a limited space I would look for an amp that outputs as 2.1 and consider getting a subwoofer as well. These speakers are very good but if you expecting window rattling effects when watching movies then consider adding a sub to your set up.
If you get them via Amazon do they have the same 5yr warranty?
I rang them yesterday to ask this as I had Amazon vouchers to use.
Yep, same warranty he said. Mine are due today.
Can someone let me know what this n00b would need to get these to work? Trying to get to grips with proper sound system stuff once my house is renovated and can start making it mine.
These are "passive" speakers so you'll need an amp to power them and to get the sound signal to them.
I'm totally ignorant in this subject. would they be OK as computer speakers? what amplifier would I need to add?
I got all of my peter tyson ads removed and was told by admin that their ads aren't allowed on here and because I post their deals I must be peter tyson staff 😄
yeah not sure what's happened to this site in the last year or so... 90% of deals get nuked instantly.
Curse you all. Bought.
I'd probably want something more substantial for the front but I'm so tempted to get these as surrounds. They look awesome for it and a really nice size.
Someone talk me out of this please
Probably best to timbre match although not necessary for rears.
Would buy but I have too many speakers/amps and no other rooms to place them in...
Just but only things you need. But I'm not
Was in a junk shop yesterday and they had a harmon kardon cassette deck td4200 . Almost fell on floor when they said they wanted 100 for it.
Got a Sony dolby S cassette deck for 20 few weeks ago.
PS i get all my hifi from charity shops So wont be buying thse speakers (edited)
Thanks for the confirmation
Bargain. Thanks OP

Very welcome
Arrived an hour ago and have been playing with them since.
So, that's what good speakers sound like. Massive difference to my old ones.
Thanks OP. (edited)
What amp are you using with them if you don't mind me asking? (edited)
My son wanted some small speakers for his desk - but the offer on this was so good I couldn't resist! Would recomend xx
That's sweet Kate, but please note as these are 'passive' speakers he will need an external amplifier as well to drive them / make them work. Here's a brief article that explains the differences between active & passive speakers bax-shop.co.uk/blo…rs/
If I could have plugged these directly into my PC I would have had a punt.
I'm not able to apply the coupon.is that account specific?
Code is not account specific, will work for everyone. Have another go, should work.
I already bought Denon 1700H from last deal. Can we use this speaker with that AV system. What is the best arrangement for this speaker. 70W is not loud enough I guess
The X1700H is brilliant - I paid £550 for mine last year... A set of these for surrounds would be great if you can find a good match for centre/fronts
Anyone know if it is worth replacing Montitor Audio MASS Gen2 satellites with these?
I am currently running nine MASS gen2s from a Denon x3700 in a 5.1.4 configuration. Happy to keep the four height channels but was thinking of swapping out the five ear-level channels.
Thanks.
Nope
Cheers OP will work well with my chifi setup. Fosi Audio BT20A Pro and SMSL DAC.

Very welcome
Excellent price, great deal.
Bought in white - now …… to find a need for them
Literally do not have the space for surrounds, but I really couldn't help myself so I'll deal with that problem later. Thanks! (edited)
Purchased without any need for them. Heat added also.
Bargain is a bargain, eh?
I didn't buy it. I feel Monitor 100 is much better
Bought. Have no clue why.
I would grab these if they would match with my centre channel for timbre, great price!
No idea why you're laughing, having a matching Left Right and Centre is important for consistent soundstaging and sound signature.

As far as I'm aware this code should work on all accounts.
Now priced at £49 on Ebay and Amazon.
Author
Yes, sold by Yeter Tyson but you seem to be forgetting the ebay code that reduces these to £41.65. But given your love for Amazon maybe less risky to buy the walnut version direct from them....for £160
This looks great thanks. Now just need some stands, anyone got a suggestion, at a sensible price?
Consider used/refurb, I got a pair of these (rrp £35) ebay.co.uk/itm…818 secondhand for £7.50 delivered off eBay. Also, do a search in your local area on Gumtree, Facebook-Mp, FreeCycle, TrashNothing & similar sites - some people give them away for free at times.
Been trying to research for a while to see if this is worth swapping for my Q Acoustic 3010, seems pretty close but I do love that box aesthetic..
My gut is saying that your 3010's are probably better sounding overall. If you fancy a change due to aesthetics though, then you can't do much wrong. If they aren't as good as expected, resell them at cost price or a tiny loss perhaps.
