I'm an ice-cream novice, it says above you have to put the ingredients in the freezer for 24 hours first. So is this machine just a glorified mixer if you've allready frozen the ingredients anyway?
    Newbold's avatar
    Newbold
Exactly that - it's just an overpriced blender for mushing up a solid block of ice cream you've had in the freezer for 24 hours.

I'll vote hot as it's a good price, but having checked this out.... Not for me.

All that prep and washing up and buying ingredients, versus picking up some cheap Ben & Jerry's from Farm Foods. It does look quite good though.

I've had the ice cream making attachment for my kenwood chef for 10 years and only used it a handful of times. It made lovely ice cream that was great at the very moment it was made but the leftovers froze into an inedible and unservable solid block after that.

I bought the other version of the Creami a few weeks ago and have pretty much used it every single day since. Amazing, magic machine. I just had nectarine sorbet that was fresh nectarines topped up with apple juice, 2 ingredients, so delicious! And yes the leftovers will freeze back to a solid block but then can just go straight back through he machine again tomorrow.

A food processor blade simply wouldn't cope with solid ice. (edited)

Hi All, posting this incase it helps a few folks. I too was sceptic, is this something that's just another appliance to the kitchen worktop that's eventually going to end up gathering dust and sent to the garage?

Glad to report, not even close. It's brilliant, no regrets even at the higher price of £129 since already have made some superb ice-creams and now sorbets. You can't mix this (pun intended) with a normal food processor, this literally mixes aka "creamifies" a block of solid mix something a normal food processor could break/struggle with IMO.

It's going to take a lot to move back to buying supermarket ice-cream now.

I have tried a few way more expensive and even commercial ice cream makers and nothing still comes close to haagan daas or Ben and Jerry's which is always on offer. I know it's fashionable to make from scratch and people like to add their own personalized ingredients , flavours but at what cost. I personally would rather buy 25-30 tubs of Ben and Jerry's but each to their own. If you like the sound of making it from scratch and think you will still be bothered to after a few times of sourcing ingredients , then washing it all up each use. Then give it a go but not for me I'm far too lazy lol

Btw Im not trying to put anyone off buying it. This if just my opinion I personally wouldn't buy it for above reasons but it is a great price and for that I added heat nearly the moment it got posted on here. If you think you can make use of it , it's definitely a bargain. (edited)

My daughter's after a Ninja Creami so obviously I told her about this offer - only it's not actually for a Creami. It's the Creami Breeze, which seems to be a stripped down cheaper version than the original, with a less powerful motor.

Don't suppose anyone's got any direct experience of the original Creami and this cheaper version?
    elbs's avatar
    elbs
the Breeze is newer version of the original with some design optimisations to give it a smaller footprint and fewer parts (hence lower risk of breakage, and lower price). there are comparison videos on youtube that show the differences.

functionality is identical to the original, it isn't a 'stripped down cheaper version'.

I thought about the Von Chef and I hope I've made the right decision, jumped for this for the extra 20 squid. Mainly because I didn't want to wait or listen to noise for an hour plus (even though that's super quick), and didn't mind planning the evening before. The thought of paying this sort of money for a glorified drill seemed nuts but having read the reviews, and understanding what a pacojet is and how good they are, assuming the hype wasn't misplaced I changed my mind - having been disappointed with and found the traditional items with the frozen bowl a gimmick that was used a few times and inconvenient. A lot of noise for a couple of minutes seemed a fair trade off 🤷

The main attraction was being able to turn pure fruits into sorbet, and getting more fruit into the kids, one of which has something against fruit for some reason. I noted that they say if it's not pineapple, banana or mango, it can damage the machine? Anyone have experience of using fresh fruit?

Also anyone had success making slushy type drinks? I know this model doesn't have a program and it warns against solid ice, but given it shares the same motor as the deluxe version and has a smaller tub, surely it's possible?

Anyway, I wanted to make some healthier frozen desserts and treats, and play with low sugar high protein recipes too... People saying it's expensive, I worked out if I made just 50 decent, successful tubs, so long as it was as good as premium ice-cream, it would be around break even. 🤞 It works as intended and gives me 100 before it has issues.

    Thanks OP (edited)

We have a von chef one and it’s absolutely brilliant! You can make delicious authentic tasting icecream with just 3 to 4 ingredients in about 40 minutes! Part of its joy is being able to make it quickly. That’s why we didn’t get the ninja one… I don’t want ice cream in 24 hours, I want it now!!

Bought. Seems well made. Simple set up and easy to clean. Came with 3 pots. Tested one simple recipe so far - peach sorbet. tinned peaches x 2. Drained off syrup and squished the fruit down to the max full line. Froze. Blitzed in the machine. The result was very good. The flavour is good - no surprises. But the texture was excellent. Velvety smooth. Also have vanilla ice cream (for oreo cookies & cream) and strawberry ice frozen and ready to go tonight with the kids. Looking forward to trying fresh mango, pineapple, pears, orange and lemon, etc. unlike the traditional domestic ice cream churning machines - the design of the creami is based on the restaurant grade Pacojet machine with costs £000s. Very happy so far. (edited)

I suppose these things serve some sort of purpose if you don’t have a proper ice cream maker with built in freezing. However, those are so much better that you’re better off saving up the extra to buy one. The Cuisinart is excellent, comes with a 5 year warranty, and costs around £250 - infinitely better than this at making ice creams, sorbets etc.

Picked one up recently from Lakeland for £199 with a code - not that much more than this. Had been considering the Ninja, but it’s not an ice cream maker. Just an ice cream pulveriser.

Lots of ignorance and misinformation on this thread, calling this a glorified blender and so on.

In fact this is a consumer version of a restaurant-grade ice-cream maker called Pacojet, whose patent expired a few years back, allowing Ninja to make this smaller version. The Pacojet has been the industry standard ice-cream maker for over a decade, the Creami uses the same design.

The below video explains how it works.

I wouldn't say having a different opinion makes someone ignorant there are also really bad reviews online if you look for them too. I love smoothies and waffles but I would never buy machines to make them I like buying them pre made, but my sister has a gadget for everything including these and we have a joke about how lazy I am and how I think they're pointless , never has the word ignorant been said, we respect each others opinions and even value them at times. :-)

Looks tempting but I personally think the a proper ice-cream maker with built in freezing would be a much better option.
It is on my wish list to buy when I can afford one. However for the time being I've got one of those cheaper ice-cream makers from Aldi for 25 quid which has been churning out fantastic ice-cream for me for the past two years. I haven't bought any from the supermarket. As a family of six I regularly stock up my freezer with lots of tubs of homemade ice-cream. No going back to store bought for me

Massively on the fence here and need a bit of help, plez someone help me understand how this is NOT a glorified blender? Surely the way it turns out is merely just dependent on the ingredients eg if you freeze a tin of peaces and put it in a nutribullet, you'll get a sorbet. How would the creami produce anything better?

If you want to make ice cream, again you use ice and heavy cream and add chosen ingredient, blend in nutribullet and woalah, no? What am I missing here :/
    s10's avatar
    s10
This presses a blade through the completly frozen ice cream mix to get your ice cream.

The mix would just be stuck on a nurtibullet. In fact I don't think you can really make ice cream with a normal blender unless if you use dry ice

so i ordered last night but having some buyers remorse. I started looking for recopies and there are none i can see on the UK site, lots on the US but only for the bigger NC300 version on UK.

What does the recipe book include? Im diabetic so my thoughts was substituting sugar for agave syrup / splenda / stevia as i miss ice cream and id also like to create fruit sorbets.

Was about to buy and thought let me read some more - Having read comments i've decided not to impulse buy. "Summer" is about to end anyway, so i'm sure id use a couple of times before it would just sit there or go into the cupboard for next summer never to be seen again.

Probably wise. When next spring arrives, the price will doubtless have dropped to £99.99, given that it’s not expensive to produce. Ninja usually bring a new item in at a high price and then drop it, like their excellent Woodfire.
