USB Type C? True innovation, breathtaking and brave

Isn't there some regulation where they have to ditch proprietary ports and go usb?

A side note but where’s the best place to trade your iphone? Seeing different websites offering different amounts but not sure who to trust

I'm part of Macrumours UK thread and a lot of people getting the best prices at ur.co.uk/ - They have praised them. Never heard of them until yesterday until I saw the posts but apparently they are very good.
  3. thetreesergeant's avatar
Not interested. You'd never catch me with an iPhone

prob best to buy the 14 when its on the refurb store soon after 15 launch.
    FuriousD's avatar
the 13's didn't come into the refurb store until January after the 14 launch so would expect similar.

Can anyone recommend what Apple Watch to get, it’s mainly for steps, a strength training and cardio workouts. Don’t need something super technical and definitely don’t want to spend too much. Iv read the SE is a good bet?
    Deal_Er's avatar
Yes, SE will do the job. Keep in mind SE has a smaller battery hence less battery backup.
  7. JGiles's avatar
I used to be a bit excited about the Apple event but kind off lost interest as these days just tends to be minor upgrades/bumps…. So do I need a ‘faster’ iPhone than my 12 pro … nope there’s nothing that the 11 onwards can’t do…
  8. whatyadoin's avatar
Time to upgrade my iPhone 4 , 3g is getting pulled
    fishmaster's avatar
IF true then it's either admirable that you managed to use a 13 year old phone, in 2023 or crazy.
  9. spendHot's avatar
if Apple stop releasing new iPhone every year with minor updates, it will be more environment friendly
    RealGeek's avatar
Yeah, What a point!, more environment friendly and pocket friendy for consumer also.
  10. Gazpacho321's avatar
...and? Not sure where the Hot Deal is here??

Well, my 2013 MacBook pro is still going strong. I've got opencore patcher running on it, allowing me to run the latest macOS version, with the latest security updates etc.

I still do photo editing etc. on it. I can't think of many Windows laptops from 2013 that would still be doing the same.

Yes, the outlay is more, but they pay for themselves over time.
  12. RomeoAlphaKilo's avatar
Not an apple user but they havent been innovative in a while. I was in the market for a phoen last year and opted for the google pixel pro over the new iPhone as the selling point of that one was a satelight emergency phone.

yeah i know if it aint broke dont fix it. But at this point theres no differnece between the models only high specs. they havent innovated in a while.
    TygerTyger's avatar
this is true ... I think Tim Cook is behind it. He's a numbers man not an ideas man ... hence more of the same with tweaks here and there.
  13. themachman's avatar
    90 million phones ordered
I'll be sticking with my 11 or just going for the 13/14 if the price is too high (edited)
  14. akoura's avatar
How is this a deal? It sees to me it is just free advertising.
    Maples's avatar
Isn’t this whole website “free advertising”?
  15. DevilWithin's avatar
Wasn't the Plus considered a failure? Surely the Mini (or revamped SE) would be a much better niche option.
    Ragedragon84's avatar
Other way around, the Mini was the worst selling iPhone so it got discontinued.
  16. Guerrillapicnic's avatar
I can't believe no one is talking about how they all must of had the same coaching because they all used the same hand gestures

I have a 12 pro max and i am on the fence about upgrading. on the one hand my battery is down to 82% health so soon i might have to send it off to apple for a replacement and that's £90ish and on the other hand i could get £350 from apple trade in and just get a standard 15 and i would be very happy with it.
    jaffamuffin's avatar
Get the batt wait a year 16 should be better bump but if not the new batt will last another year and go to 17 in 2 years
  17. OrangeAgent's avatar
looking at the 15 plus rather than pro max, it seems to have all that the 14 pro max has apart from the 120 refresh screen and another camera?

Anyone know where the refresh screen would affect something? im not a gamer or anything, just use for business and photos? Thanks
    Mr.Nutts's avatar
The Pro also has quicker transfer speeds if you ever plug into a PC and move files.
The 120Hz / ProMotion display is nice when scrolling, makes for a smoother experience. More and more people are starting to care about it but for general phone use I think most wouldn't notice. I'd say it's only really a key player if you're gaming.
  18. Lolhaxsor's avatar
Carphone warehouse still have iPhone 15 pro max for collection on 22/9 still have stock on the 256gb black titanium
    Lolhaxsor's avatar
If you look under sim free option
  19. Conkers816's avatar
I had a 13 and Apple Watch 7 last year and was adamant I wouldn't be upgrading, especially since the 14 was such a tiny, inconsequentlal upgrade.

And when I was taking my 14 and Watch 8 home a week later

I wouldn't mind the dynamic island thing, but I'll see what they both bring and decide. (edited)
    Mr.Nutts's avatar
How much have you benefitted from having the same processor and satellite connectivity in your phone?

You might actually notice a difference if you upgraded to the 15 (edited)
  20. doppo666's avatar
Pretty lacklustre event, zero innovation, just usual slight specs upgrade, also no mention of battery specs on the pro models….
and another 365 day wait again to hopefully be wowed next year….it’s been 10 years since last wowed in the Steve jobs days!
there R&D department must only work 5 weeks in the year.
Samsung is looking more and more tempting as the never ending wait continues for “just one more thing” (edited)
    Scrooge_McDuck's avatar
Agree...it's a relief though...I'm an apple fanboy with a 14 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra and have no reason to upgrade...cheap year this year!
  21. iamqwerty123's avatar
so, is it if you wait +1 year, the next iphone will be the same as the previous years iphone pro? cos it looks like the iphone 15 is the same as the iphone 14 pro max
    Rilkal's avatar
No, about half the features come to the normal phone. You're missing the 3rd camera and the better screen.
  22. FairyDave's avatar
Those Pro specs in the post aren't correct, the Pro has 8GB RAM and there's a typo in the storage line (edited)

yep, both edited, you win, well spotted
  23. harrythefish's avatar
The launch iPhone 15 seems to have eSIM only, no physical SIM. Is there/will there be a European version with a SIM slot?
    grayhm's avatar
    Yes - esim USA only
  24. harrythefish's avatar
That jutting out camera enclosure looks a bit delicate. Also, the 'periscope' feature on the iPhone 15 - how does that work?
    Mr.Nutts's avatar
The periscope is only on the Pro Max. Some other phones have it (I think Xperia 1 III had it and I'm sure several others will).
I guess it just shifts the lens which allows for double the zoom, ie 5x becomes 10x. I imagine it's motorised internally.
  25. agilebeast's avatar
John Lewis pre-orders from tomorrow. Anyone know when they’re likely to have stock? Just says “Delivery from September 22nd”
    gg1pl's avatar
Like everything else retailers have stock days/weeks beforehand in warehouse/store ready for sale on release day (edited)

Work have authorised a 15 Pro for me to check USB 3 Data speeds. Result!!
    jaffamuffin's avatar
Dont you know you could have got an android for £50 thats 6x quicker they didn't need to spend all that money on extortionate apple tax
  27. scoundr3l's avatar
I'm waiting for the announcment that iOS 17 will allow sideloading...in the UK...hopefully Brexit won't have shafted us. Again.
    deleted2844744's avatar
And sideloading from where? There is not even a third party store for IOS?!
  28. blizeH's avatar
What would you guys say is the best value iPhone now? I'm quite keen on the 3x zoom so thinking either 13 Pro, 14 Pro or 15 Pro... very happy to buy used, but wondering if since the 15 Pro has had a £100 price drop whether new (with a warranty, and a guarantee that it's a genuine battery and screen) is worth the extra. Thanks
    D3LL80Y's avatar
Probably 14 pro is best, still getting the 48mp camera and dynamic island. I like the USB-C on 15 but my Airpods are lightning so feels like I would need to upgrade them too otherwise I would need 3 cables for apple devices. If you only want new then 15 pro makes sense (edited)
  29. 9etrader's avatar
    Not having pre ordered
If I visit an apple store tomorrow ; queue up an hour before opening time (or do I need to go even earlier?)
What are the chances that I can get an iphone Pro Max 256GB Natural Titanium (assuming this is the most in demand or the least in supply model - making it harder to get than any other) tomorrow ?
Anyone did this in the past can share their experience pls
    The2Time's avatar
Check the website for stock from 6am. the chances of walking in and getting one are virtually zero.
  30. Kelsier's avatar
Costco Watford told me they won’t have any stock for iPhone 15 pro max tomorrow but will have the base iPhone 15 in stock. Try calling your local store, worth a shot.
  31. theRainMan's avatar
Been like this since the morning. My credit card was charged at around 2am (thankfully). The longest packaging and dispatching in history. 51038509-4AMST.jpg
    krispsnkrs's avatar
It will be like that till the day before most likely, think that’s what happened for people who got theirs today with Apple. About 2 staff in the entire warehouse
  32. Nigel_Tufnel's avatar
Imagine paying that much and getting an old processor.
    Scrooge_McDuck's avatar
I'll take Apples old chip over your snapdragon-icecream-jellybean-sandwich or whatever childlike jibber-jabber they call it these days. (edited)
  33. imavillan's avatar
thanks for posting but i think i'll stick with my 13 Pro Max for at least another year or so.
    matd80's avatar
Same here -  came from an 8 plus to 13 pro max
     so I can wait
  34. thedeveldevil's avatar
Periscope lens is only going to be in the Pro Max.
Still no 120Hz for standard iPhones. Even mid-range Android phones have this.
Apple Watch will be an interesting reveal this year. watchOS has been revamped and I’m expecting some interesting hardware.
    noone's avatar
Hard pass then if it’s only for the pro max
  35. Deal_Er's avatar
I wish they would make non pro models screen refresh rate as 120Hz too.
I know they won't as it will impact sales of pro models.
    MonkeyMan90's avatar
That's the whole point I'm afraid. If it's something you want you have to pay for it. They can't market a pro at so much more £ if there isn't much difference
  36. graham_tod's avatar
Yet another hypefest about very little. Of course they will be ridiculously expensive, though I suspect they may not sell as well as they hope, you scan say it's X% better than the last model so many times a bit like superhero fatigue!
    bermudaviper's avatar
But it's made out of titanium!
  37. Emilio_GW's avatar
Sticking with my day-1 iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB. Has been a solid buy and no faults to mention. Hoping to get another 3-4 years out of it.
    Ash9694's avatar
And the only thing you will miss out on will be the usb C port (edited)
  38. BrianButterfield's avatar
I just made the switch to Android myself, I mean the iPhone used to be reasonably priced, but now even the basic ones are almost £1000. People will say "buy last years as it's only like £700 now", well I can buy this years on Android for that lol. I blame the iPhone X for ruining pricing, before that you'd get the iPhone for £500-600.

Their Macbooks have gone the same way though as you cannot upgrade them any more. So you have to shell out the £3000 now for the ram and storage you'll need in the future. Where 10 years ago you could just upgrade that stuff yourself and buy the cheap model.... But that is what Apple did that.

The only good thing is their watches and their Airpods (not pros) as no one makes a watch as good as the Ultra, the ones that come close like the Garmins are more expensive. The Airpods without the rubber, just the standard ones are my favourite and I've never found any other none Apple pair close to as good as theirs. However when it comes to the rubber tipped ones, then there is loads of competition. (edited)
    TekWoodyatt1's avatar
the basic ones are not £1000. similar spec androids (chinese HONOR/OPPO releases, Galaxy Ultra etc) are also the same price.
  39. Parappathepappa's avatar
Bizarre that this discussion exists on the same site as "£2 bonus cashback in 3 months" and "40p broccoli in Aldi" deals.
