Speeds are pretty good to be fair. I installed Starlink in rural France where all we could get previously with Orange France was 10mb.
    This was results with Starlink.

There's so many places in rural France that need this in Gites and Chalets etc... Pretty sure people would pay the extra to have somewhere with decent Internet.

Have had this direct fromStarlink for about 6 months now. i have a holiday place with terrible signal so bought this and getting downloads of around 250 - 300. I can also use this at home as it's portable due to me not fixing it to anything and only using the stand that came with it. I pay an extra £20 for the portability. Need to have a decent speed to do my work when away and wouldn't be without it now.

Yeah, this is one of the use cases for Starlink, together with ships and airplanes. Great to have as an option, but keep in mind all your meta data is being sold to the highest bidder.
  3. Maxm4n's avatar
Wow!!! So how much speed we will be getting for the £75 pm?? (edited)
    Sycric's avatar
I have starlink and as long as you have no obstructions you will be getting something like 100-200mb, upload is 15-20mb
I'm somewhat impressed with it and it seems like witchcraft. My ping is also 26ms.

Ironic how they only cover the countries that already have the best Internet cover
  5. cells's avatar
Read somewhere a while ago these use 100 watts which will mean approx £250 just for the eletricity while a normal WiFi from the likes of VM will be closer to £25 a year for the electricity
    tenelitebrains's avatar
More like 50W on average. About 20W to stay connected with no network activity and 75W (ish) whilst in use
  6. peggy79's avatar
    £75/month, no contract.

Very expensive and speed is not the best compare to 5G in my case 240mbps and no contract too in my case!

Good price I would say for Starlink the I have heard the download speed is between 50-200mbps and upload is 5-30mbps. Covers entire of UK and Europe so you should get a decent speed to stream 4k on Netflix/YouTube etc on any remote location. I stay in the city but good to know its not that expensive to be connected to HUKD if I plan move and stay in a cave somewhere remote in UK/Europe. (edited)

Very happy. Orange France has not implemented any update to the networks as we were too remote. And we’ve been here for over 15years!
I was genuinely worried that it wasn’t going to work but easy setup and 232mbps average now has the neighbours popping by to send large files on email

How much is the Internet subscription after the free 2 months?
    sm9690's avatar
2 months internet subscription worth £150 included

    £150 / 2 months = £75pm

It's a special use case. You are not going for this if you have access to a decent traditional cable or 5g. I know someone that lives in the countryside in Scotland and he says it's brilliant and his only option for fast broadband. Also it's been reliable for him.
  10. The_Heroic_Hulk's avatar
    If you were rural.
  11. ozzmosiz's avatar
Sometimes get 200Mb download, but usually. Its around 120.

Cant get Fibre where we are otherwise i would replace it as its expensive

Satellite Internet will probably never take more than 1% of the market for broadband

It should be pretty obvious, but you can just place the satellite on top of a tall building or a local hill and the coverage area would be vast. Without the need/cost to send it to space

I'm guessing here, but I imagine the only reason they aren't deploying the same tech in urban areas on tall buildings rather than sending it to space is the earth based telcos would complain that they had to pay billions for the spectrum and spacex hasn't paid a penny

There is a market for it
    But its pretty limited

51155789_1.jpg£75/mth means that the family can use the internet for school work and you can run a construction business, connect to HMRC etc. (edited)
    cascadde's avatar
How have you installed it - any obstructions?
  17. SidekickSimon's avatar
Is this something you'd have if you couldn't get decent wifi though a standard provider?
    Minstadave's avatar
Wifi? That's usually used for around the home.

This would replace your ISP via phone line or fibre.
  18. cascadde's avatar
I live somewhere rural - broadband line of 1mbps, and 4g is about 20mbps.

This has been giving me up to 300mbps down / 30 up.
Great bit of kit. Expensive, but not outrageous if its your only option.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a time machine in the loft for that £99 deal.

You can also now rent a unit from Starlink for £90 per month (£15 hardware rental fee and £75 connection). (edited)
    zippy-do-da's avatar
Similar boat to you you rural rubbish bb, no 4g inside. Luckily I come from that timezone, and got mine for £99 - it works very well, and worth every penny of the £75 to me. If they ever install virgin or some 1gb line down my road I'd swap to that, but for now, it's this or the dark ages!

This seems like a great option for people in very rural areas with no proper high speed broadband options!
    flooker's avatar
    Not necessarily very rural.
That setup I've posted about is in a small valley, absolutely zero mobile signal on any network, this particular phone line is on ancient poles, there are more repairs than wire, it's 2 miles from a village exchange and serves about 6 properties.
0.4 Mbps up to 1.2 Mbps is not enough to stay logged onto your bank or have reliable access to HMRC etc now that they are only available online.

Great until you want to say something honest about Agent Orange or his paymaster the Kremlin Gremlin and then Muskski will personally switch you off.

After gathering as much data on you as possible and handing it over to some malevolent mercenary slimeball.

Anyone know if the subscription is a credit to the account and can be activated and used as required or does it start from purchase. Asking because I dont need to use it yet but will in a couple of months time?

I got kit and it on hold

Mine's been installed for about a year in North London. I did a speed test on Sunday morning, I was checking something else, and got 330/40, which is about as good as I have seen over the year.

I'm lucky, mines continued working, but there have been plenty of reports of defective cables, especially after a winter "heating" the dish to remove snow and ice - the extra power appears to have affected certain cable batches.

I've kept my VDSL for the static IP but SL have also now started offering "public" (not static) IPs but for about 25/month extra - almost the cost of the VDSL

I'm looking forward to the reliably rumoured portable dishy one the way (about A4 sized and aimed at backpackers rather than RV-ers).

Just get fibre optic if you can.

No need to go into debt like the Americans...
    cascadde's avatar
That's the market for these - locations without broadband or 5g/4g etc.
No point getting one if you've got FTTP or FTTC.

It costs a lot less for SpaceX to launch their satellites compared to Amazon (as SpaceX is using mostly reusable rockets). If Starship goes orbital the launch price for Starlink satellites will become 20 times lower.

nope. can't use it for marine use.

Have this overseas. Interestingly, paid €385.87 for the kit and €72 pcm for the service. Another case of the UK getting rinsed for little good reason.

So far so good albeit the service was only just released and am currently getting 40/20 in an area which would still only be on xDSL and at the very best, 2meg.
