How can it be cheaper to send lamb halfway round the world when we rear it in this country?

New Zealand is simply a far more efficient place to grow lamb. better climate for year round grazing, less fertiliser and pesticides, larger farms, larger abbattoirs, less road transport cf. UK (due to supermarket buying influence), most farms are close to ports. All resulting in lower prices and a lower carbon footprint.

Pure poison. Travelling 7000 miles frozen for months. Buy British

Utter rubbish. See my post above. A lot of lamb is sent chilled.

I don't understand the economics of shipping frozen lamb from the other side of the world but given a choice of frozen lamb from the other side of the world at £6.49/Kg or fresh welsh lamb from my local farmer at £18/Kg, I'd rather eat less lamb.

Because shipping things around the world only accounts for a very small amount of the cost of production. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.

    £6.50, a penny more.
