I was in China when it was released and picked one up from the local Oppo store. Paid ¥5799/£650 for the 24gb/1TB version.

I was using ColorOS for a month and flashed it to OxygenOS a couple of days after landing back in the UK which coincided with the global rom being made available.

The phone itself is lightning quick, the battery life is excellent and lasts me the whole day with heavy use during my 1 hour tube commute each way. The 100w supervooc charging is incredibly fast and works fine via a UK adapter. I came from a OnePlus 9 Pro so volume buttons now being on the right took some getting use to.

ColorOS was OK, had the Chinese apps which I mostly uninstalled and the inbuilt app market had all the Google apps. Google Pay worked OK when I got back. There were two main issues:

    1. Android Auto doesn't work. It needs to be installed as a system app as part of the ROM. Of course it wasn't and although I installed it off the app market, it installed as a user app and my car refused to activate it. The phone threw up Communication error 22. There's guides on how to convert a user app to a system app but that requires root access so I didn't bother.

    2. Google Location History doesn't work at all. Chinese law prohibits location history so none of the Chinese Roms have the necessary files for Location History to work properly. This is the same with other phone manufacturers and is well documented. The only way is to move to a global rom so that's what I did.

This video is a great visual step by step on how it's done. I took the exact same steps and I'm now on OxygenOS with the two issues above resolved.

For Google Pay to work, you need to lock the bootloader so make sure to do that if this feature is important to you.

eSIM doesn't work despite it being a menu option. This is because the China version lacks the physical eSIM chip. You still have dual SIM though so hardly a deal breaker.

    Happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for the info, very useful. How did you find it otherwise, no big issues/bugs/annoyances with the hardware, camera ok?

Apparently it won't take long so they don't seem worried...

same thing happened with the oneplus 11 on release , was sorted and wasnt an issue again

Quick question if anyone has the answer.

My understanding is that Chinese OnePlus phones are now region locked if the device is not first activated in China. I.e the device stops working properly in 5-6 months.

My question is, can the above problem be avoided if Wonda flash the phone with the EU rom ($20 extra)? Or is the risk still there?

Supposedly even the Chinese firmware version is not locked

for anyone interested, I emailed wonda and they confirmed that once they have flashed the global ROM they re-lock the bootloader, so I think this should be identical to a UK model minus esim support

Someone on XDA has put some method by which you can check if your device is region unlocked or not

    SirSpoon007's avatar
Hmm.. mine says it's unlocked but then I'm getting the warnings when I reboot it.
  7. jaju123's avatar

Apparently if the phone is manufactured before 28 Dec 2023 then it does not have region lock. Mine is 22nd Dec. Can others check also?
    SirSpoon007's avatar
Mines 29th and I get the warnings about it being region locked... one day over

Wanda have been in touch with the following. I have an old laptop that the daughter has used previously and wiped it this morning and that's had ultra-viewer and my phone connected now, just waiting on Wanda -

    "Hi,

    Remove region lock remotely

    Please follow below instructions

1, Please install Ultraviewer on your computer.
    ultraviewer.net/en/
2, Connect the OnePlus 12 with the computer, and follow the attached video (setting on the phone)
3, Open Ultraviewer, provide us Your ID and Password.

4, Just leave the phone, until we have confirmed you. It may take a long time.
    Please be patient.

    Thanks "

So, lets see what happens now.
    andykww's avatar
Mine is just done. Same process. He WhatsApped me a picture of it being unlocked.
I restarted the phone, no Region Lock message.
I then reset the phone. No message either.
It seems region lock is removed for now.

Does wonda buys avoid custom fees?
    ninjin's avatar
I just checked the price on the street in HK and its around £450. So if wonda are charging £564 thats more than enough to cover shipping and taxes. I think what they do is take a gamble. If you get charged, they make usual amount. If you don't get charged they earn extra £100.
  12. bara.menyn's avatar
Does it come with the 'free' Bang and Olufsen's at this price ?

I got the free B+O on my order yesterday. By the time the email arrived confirming my order they werent on it. I contacted them and they said "stock is all gone". I went back to reorder and the B+O option was gone.
So, even though it was on my order they aren't honouring it.
They also wouldnt honour the £50 off voucher they sent me, student discount, or the Bonus Drop (which you had to pay for)
Came away from it yesterday feeling like the whole thing had been one big scam.
  13. cfbc's avatar
Is the chinese OS ok to use and work ok in the UK, google, etc? Been considering for a few days, but it's like a leap of faith and a lot of money to purchase if the OS is not workable.

Any comments on the 512 and 1TB versions? (edited)
    SirSpoon007's avatar
I ordered the 1tb version yesterday and they sent me an email asking whether I want them to flash it with the global rom this morning, so that's what they're doing, it's not just adding Google play to it or anything like that. Was going to do it myself but for £15 I'd rather not risk bricking it. (edited)

  16. Scott_Hillier's avatar
    Thanks very much
I've gone ahead and ordered after they shafted me on the B&O headphones. Saved 80 quid and get a much higher spec model this way.
    cfbc's avatar
Yep, agreed.... 1+ must have had an handful of the B&O in stock and that is it..... Like you, higher spec, lower price.... Fingers crossed
  17. SirSpoon007's avatar
Mine got shipped out yesterday, and it's already out for delivery today.. very fast! hopefully the region lock won't be a thing.. will see/report back.
    MentalFloss's avatar
That's crazy, was it through FedEx?
  18. ninjin's avatar
    Just a heads up....

As one+ is made by OPPO, Android auto may not work even after flashed to Worldwide OS. (UK uses the Worldwide OS. China market handsets come with China OS)

Its the case with Chinese Market OPPO handsets but not sure with One+. (edited)
    MentalFloss's avatar
That is only true for Oppo, not OnePlus. Only reason I went for this over the Find X7 Ultra.
  19. PESfan's avatar

Asking the guru's as it's been a few years for me since a new phone, but what's the best way to get everything off a 1+7 to my new 1+12 please?
    Thongmas's avatar
There's a OnePlus app called Clone Phone. I think that should do most of what you're looking for.
  22. MentalFloss's avatar
I received this one. So looks like I will need to use their help to remotely resolve it. 52098208-tWFig.jpg
    Stubee's avatar
So I'm guessing any that were dispatched prior to the lock thing happening will need to do this, whereas any dispatched after will be sorted already.
  23. Tetlee's avatar
I ordered yesterday morning and received the email this morning re. shipping delay due to the unlock. Hopefully all be fine, have never ordered a phone from China but was too annoyed by the markup for the UK price so decided to take the plunge.

I went for the standard memory as not sure the extra ram and memory needed for my basic use. Should've gone standard shipping by the sounds of things instead of wasting money on the express but never mind.

    Good luck all.
    cfbc's avatar
100% agree and exactly the same reason as yourself.
  24. ohsomeonenew's avatar
    I got the email below,

    Thank you for your order.
Your order will be arranged to ship out in these 2 days.
Takes time to remove the region lock, hope you understand!
  25. FeeFiFooFum's avatar
Order was despatched this morning. So I emailed them and said they managed to remove the region lock.
  26. JustWaitingForAMate's avatar
Does anyone know if this region lock is permanent? What about wiping your phone when you wish to sell it on?
    MentalFloss's avatar
My understanding is that it's remote based, i.e. if OnePlus generates an unlock code for you based on your IMEI, the unlock should be permanent. At least that's how it used to be for OP11
  27. uscool's avatar
It's only released in India so far , and will spread to other regions soon enough
  28. andykww's avatar
Well, I just got my phone today and the Region Lock message came up once I inserted my SIM. Emailed them and waiting for a response. The Date on the phone is 29-12-2023.

Just out of interest, does the Region Lock come back whenever you reset the phone? Or once Region Lock is removed, is it gone for good?
    jaju123's avatar
    Author
Supposedly it's gone for good but idk how it works. I imagine it would be possible to bypass it with root access but I haven't seen anyone develop something to do that yet
  29. cfbc's avatar
Right, now in a position for a phone case.. Anyone got any recommendations?

    Phones top notch now! 💪

I ordered the Tudia Magsafe case from Amazon as well as a Lamicall Magsafe ring holder (I'm a phone ring user since I have butter fingers). Should arrive tomorrow.

Is the 3.8% discount for using bank transfer worth it or better to use credit card/debit?
    cfbc's avatar
I know it's 3%, but with a BT you have no cover if defective or any issues, whereas CC you have and are covered. To me, worth the extra 3% paying by CC.
  33. Scott_Hillier's avatar
Mines working fine in the UK, hopefully that continues.

The OnePlus 11 got locked after certain amount of reboots, we'll see how it plays out on the OnePlus 12

Bought my OnePlus 9 pro from them when that came out and have had 0 issues with the phone and customs. Flashed the UK firmware on it to get rid of the global apps that were bugging me. (edited)

Does Android Auto work on your flashed handset?

I asked them about the region lock and sound like they have it sorted :

When did you place your order if you don't mind me asking? I got an update this morning of my label being created (FedEx) so hopefully they've sorted it before sending the phone!

I received this email this morning after a mention that my order was shipped and I asked them if it was sorted. Looks like they have sorted the region lock.

Just got the phone this morning but have opened it now. Despite them confirming that the region lock has been removed prior to shipping, It has not. The date on the box 02.01.24 if anyone is wondering.

Have emailed them now. So will wait on their response.

Another thing is that the phone was on when I opened it and on low battery. Not sure why but not happy with it being on for the whole duration of the journey to London. But have mentioned it in the email to them.
