So, £75 a month for internet. Ouch. Better be really fast.
    rdjs's avatar
This is useful for people that don't have high speed internet in their area
  2. mrTea67's avatar
After seeing a few of these kits up for sell second hand for this price and more having 2 free months internet makes this seem a good buy.
    r9000's avatar
Just be aware that the "high speed" and "low latency" are lies. Starlink speed is poor compared to fibre, and varies with how much contention there is in your area. Latency is even worse, and tends to vary a lot. Not good for low latency stuff like gaming or live streaming.

It's also quite expensive. Still, useful for people who can't get anything better.

£75 pcm seems high for broadband.
    Nutellaspread's avatar
It's more for people who live in remote areas and don't have reliable Internet lines/5g access.
  4. freakstyler's avatar
For those moaning about pricing, if you're on close terms with neighbours you could always split the monthly costs and initial kit price. This is literally the only game in town for fast internet if you live out in the sticks without any sort of cable/fibre/4 or 5G. A friend of mine who lives out in the wilds of Northumberland does this with one of his neighbours.
    Moss.b's avatar
    My friend did the same.

This is slow, poor connection and the more people who buy it, the worse it will get
so about on par with virgin media

As far as I know it will only get batter as they send more Satellite in space in future

    Is power consumption an issue?
I remember seeing someone saying they cost like a small kettle switched on all the time, in which case that’s a lot!
Would appreciate a real user’s feedback
    The_Name_With_No_Man's avatar
Specs say 50 to 75 watts. Not a kettle.

Great deal, could you game on this? Or could I blame it for missing easy shoots on rocket league?
    KodaBear's avatar
Very low latency for a satellite connection. But higher than your average fixed line.

It should be totally usable for gaming but you will get the occasional ping spikes.

Average ping about 30ms where I live.
  8. joncfc's avatar
I'd be looking at 4g/5g internet before i'd enterntain anything like this. There can't be that many mobile blindspots these days?
    wolfiewolf's avatar
Honesty…. Having been through a lot of pain trying 4G/ 5G routers…. It ain’t worth it…. They always choke them
  9. Shadowfax's avatar
Farms & rural businesses more than 3Km from any kind of BT Exchange are going to benefit from this. Constant 100Mb is better than most get on LTE or WISP.

PS: If you know anyone on the Mainland (France etc) subscriptions are cheaper. Just register for the roaming subscription from their address for £60 a month. (edited)

Just beware Starlink has some extremely mixed reviews for customer service - which seems to be almost entirely app based

    €40 for Europeans

Ay, and we don't even get a drink before getting dry humped. UK has become a playground for greedy corps!
  12. tled's avatar
    thanks!! ordered one.

Does anyone know if we can activate it directly in another country?
If not, I will have to activate here and wait 2 months as per their FAQ
UPDATE: 3 months actually, got the number wrong. (edited)
    scott-chegg's avatar
Mine is on the French Region Roaming package at £51/month, no issues at all using it here in the UK

A bargain compared to the £100,000+ quoted by Openreach as part of their much trumpeted Universal Service Obligation scheme.

"Thanks for letting us know you’re interested in requesting a better broadband connection. We’ve carried out an initial investigation that shows your address is eligible for a network upgrade under the broadband universal service scheme.

The USO scheme covers up to £3,400 per premise (exclusive of VAT) for the upgrade to your broadband connection. The estimate we provide below is the costs over and above this amount.

We’ve carried out detailed checks in your area – including assessing the best route to your home from the nearest existing and usable network point – so that we can give you a cost estimate. We estimate that it will in excess of £100,000 to upgrade the network to your individual premise.

Please note this is only an estimate cost range. To confirm the actual cost of the network build and confirm the USO approach that you will follow, we would need to complete a more detailed survey with Openreach "

Had exactly the same, ended up trying a three 5g router with external antenna and been on that ever since, been ok for gaming and streaming.

Says £448.99- no indication of 50% off. (edit- OK, I missed the "Starts tomorrow")

What is the "high speed" anyway? Doesn't actually give a figure. (edited)
    KodaBear's avatar
It varies a lot from area to area.

Where I live it's 110 Down, 10 up most of the time. I've seen as high as 125 and as low as the upper 60's.
  15. Johnnyboy11's avatar
I’m interested in this disruptive tech, would willingly pay a premium to break the Sky/Virgin/BT triopoly. Get rid of the landline completely. I hope it is available tomorrow.
    Jyoosi's avatar
CityFibre are gradually disrupting the game too. They've just blanketed the entirety of Sunderland in full fibre, £30/m for 1gb up 1gb down.

Currently on No One Internet, amazing for gaming as it's a direct path straight to London, so latency to games and services that use Paris or Amsterdam server farms is noticeably faster and more stable.

14ms of latency to London is also quite good, the lowest on BT was around 22ms.
  16. PeterGalbavy's avatar
For those who need localised info, hit their map page and use the dropdown on the left to look at recorded averages for download/upload/latency (under "Availability v" dropdown): starlink.com/map…oad

I just want to use it a couple months a year in Spain and notice the price is €40 a month there (which is more reasonable than £75). Can I buy this deal and signup in Spain or do I need to purchase it there?
  18. andy_spoo's avatar
Possibly, but Gen 2 has directional motors which will orientate it's self, Gen 3 does not (to cut down costs).
  19. julio.passos's avatar
Does anyone know if this kit fits in hand luggage? Also, if the foot os removable ?
    hamsterboy's avatar
    62 x 27 x 37 cm approx 8kg. All approx.
  20. scott-chegg's avatar
    Doesn’t include 2 months free
  21. Sentral's avatar
Some not-so-bright people totally missing the point in this product

Great deal for those in remote areas and who work offgrid.
    Opethian's avatar
I was just about to say.
  22. Chimppimp1987's avatar
Very expensive internet if you have other options available to you.
    scott-chegg's avatar
Hence why people with other options are not the target customer base.
  23. SmartDoc's avatar
£75 is cheap as hell for decent connections in remote areas. We have such bad internet we looked at a lease line at hundreds per month
  24. sdodnib's avatar
Can it be used on flights or abroad?
    gravitysun's avatar
Genuinely can't tell if this is a serious ask
  25. FLIPENDO's avatar
People saying it's for people in remote areas like that justifies the price...
    KodaBear's avatar
If you live in a genuinely remote area you are often VERY limited for choice. You either get something very expensive or very slow. If you look at other satellite based options then Starlink becomes a very attractive offer for the higher speeds, lower latency, much more generous download policy, and pricing that's actually pretty competitive especially for what you get.
  26. tjc2005's avatar
So everyone justifying musks ridiculous monthly cost by saying it's for people in remote areas like he's doing them a big favour.

In reality you are ripped off just because you live in a rural area that can't get internet. Seems about right from musk.
    WhateverTrevor's avatar
It's not musk ripping you off it's openreach/BT in that scenario. They only lay fibre where it's financially viable. At least musk's solution provides an option. Also it's far superior if you have risk of government turning your internet off, like in certain countries.

Powercut, and internet important to you? Run home battieries and starlink etc.

    It has its place.
  27. Rimi's avatar
That is bloody expensive and not a deal at al! I have tested Starling at workplace and speed is 42 to 75 download and 21 upload at very best. Even on 4G+ I get 95-140 down and 24 up speeds, cost me £16 a month, where 5G on EE is 520mbps as minimum for £35 a month. Might be a deal if you live in a desert without any mobile coverage...
    rickla's avatar
Works well for me who is unable to get a 3G or 4G signal and gets less than 1MB via Plusnet.

Nearly everyone within 3 or 4 miles has Starlink here.
  28. redspelly's avatar
Had Starlink for 18 months now - its been excellent and far better than the 18mb d/l that i was getting through Sky
  29. font2013's avatar
This is only useful for off the grid people who are travelling. Somewhere like being in the bush in africa or in the desert. For everyone else, 5g/fibre/normal broadband is better and cheaper
    Luke_Davies's avatar
I live 30 min outside of Manchester. 4g connection at home, 63mb/s on the home broadband. If I could afford this I'd be buying it.
  30. Itssocheap's avatar
It’s funny reading the arguments here. You simply wouldn’t buy it or need it if you have access to a decent broadband speed. It’s very expensive at £75 per month. It’s purely for people with no access to broadband or incredibly low speeds with no other option. Exciting to think though that you’re actually using statellites (according to Delboy) to receive data!
  31. Matty1302's avatar
If Musk can lower the monthly fee enough Starlink could be a serious competitor in the UK and move into mainstream.
    TheOnlyRick's avatar
    Uhhhhh... Maybe. But why?

Besides I doubt "internet via a satellite" can handle the UK's bandwidth requirements (compared to millions of fibre and copper connections).
  32. Shaun_Newman's avatar
Will it in stock online tomorrow or already sold out?

  34. ASongOfIceandFire's avatar
    Exactly what I thought!
  35. Slapdabass's avatar
So is that £75 a month after 2 months? No thanks.
  36. Hugh_Mungo's avatar
Been a customer with them for a while. Been absolutely amazing in my area. No hope of a good cooper connection here. During a recent storm people in the area lost their phone line connections but Starlink kept strong. Tip I'd offer, sometimes Starlink does offers on refurb units. We were renting our new unit, so I messaged support and they sold our unit at the refurb price.
  37. gingercat's avatar
"Low latency" and anything satellite based do not go together!
    KodaBear's avatar
It’s LEO satellite so much closer to earth than usual satellite technology. It’s higher than the average fixed line but significantly lower than any other satellite internet. Entirely usable even for gaming minus the occasional ping spike if your transition from one satellite to the next isn’t quite as seamless as it should be.
  38. dharne's avatar
Isn't this Musky's thing? I wouldn't trust it, doesn't he turn it off if he doesn't like you for some reason?
  39. Anth2210's avatar
Seems like many people don’t understand what this was designed for.
    hamsterboy's avatar
I was talking to someone recently about this and yep, they did not quite grasp what it is. They thought the price was with service, then talked about installing it in their town centre terrace house.
  40. strooptick's avatar
Will this be in stores as well I wonder? Or just online?

I saw the kit yesterday at Costco Trafford, but did not look at the price.
