Sainsburys large birds are minimum weight 1.9kg. Often they're around 2.1kg.
Compare with Tesco large chickens usually at the lower end of 1.6kg to 1.9kg.
Chickens with urine burns on their legs have been a thing for a long time. They used to scrape the burns off with a grater to make them more sellable. Probably just chop the legs now above the critical point.
The damage done by publishing these type of shock stories, it temporarily causes a drop in demand for chickens at supermarkets, resulting in a surplus of supply and many chickens going to waste.
That's exactly why we have this half price offer, and good news for those who like a roast chicken!

By all means, it's a godsend for struggling families but it's not sustainable in the long term.
The whole value chain needs an overhaul and consumers should be paying a better (much higher) price for the bird if they want reassurance they are buying a quality product.
Dread to think about the life the ckichen had, what its eaten and the quality of the meat :/
It does get a bit annoying when middle class animal lovers who can afford a tenner for a corn fed organic chicken , blather on about people trying to put food on the table....
(for the knobheads like me who have just been on a wild chicken chase! )
Loads on shelf this evening
Managed to get 8 large
Before all the people freak out about over buying, that's 4 for my mums house and 4 for our house.
Stunning deal. Also managed to grab some yellow sticker deals too at same time.
Will be trying again in a couple of days.
God bless my chest freezer. (edited)
8 weeks is the shed turn-aound.
Now I just need to get myself to Sainsbury's.
