Good deal but battery life is atrocious- better off with a Fitbit

My wife has the pixel watch 1, LTE version, she charges it after getting up whilst in the shower etc and has never complained about the battery. She says it would probably last her 2 days if she forgot one morning

A bit off topic but I don't believe smart watches are as good as they could be until they bring back physical buttons. I still use an original pebble smartwatch with buttons it's so intuitive, it can't be the physical cost because cheap digital watches have buttons. Apple have been very clever because they've got a very good multiple button system. Many years ago people's minds were hypnotised by the original iPhone and the absolute peak was to have one button only and then all development stopped. And then you have all these stupid round designs, when you're displaying data and information and text messages the last thing you want is a vanity round screen, it's beyond stupid, when did you last see a round PC monitor. The Android has to go on with their plodding stupidity, excuse the rant.

I think it stems from the fact that watches are far more of a fashion statement than other tech. Apple inevitably lead the way and we'll probably see more square watches as time goes on but personally I wouldn't wear a square watch simply because I think they look horrible.

From a practical perspective you're correct though.

can you use Spotify offline on these? i.e. while running and gym without your phone

    Yes

Pixel watch 2 has £87 off too

Im still using my Huawei gt2 watch after 3 years, still going strong and battery life is awesome.
    tylerpauldunne's avatar
    Same and I love it.
  6. TheOak's avatar
Is this the first one? Was a terrible bit of tech, definitely wouldn't pay £137 for it
    Topper1900's avatar
I assumed you've never used one as my Pixel Watch does everything a Pixel Watch 2 does.

I just hated the giant bezel, you cannot see it in photos, but in real life it makes it look like a toy. They should have done a curved display all around the watch so the whole thing was one big display.
    ddg93's avatar
Yep, that was a massive draw point to me paying a bit more and getting a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic instead. The bezel on the Pixel Watch looks awful, there's a reason all the watch faces in the promo material are black.

To see where the bezel is, look at the image in this thread. Where you can see the coloured lines on the Hey Google prompt, that's the edge of the screen. The bezel is the same all the way around.

Is there any smartwatch with a camera on it that you could photo or video whilst out running or on hikes??

This looks nice, I only buy the Samsung watches, think I'm on the watch 4 at the moment as got bored of upgrading with little change and battery life going backwards. The original galaxy watch 44mm battery still can't be beaten.

Anyone know what's battery life on these compared to Samsung watches?
    Ouzoherb's avatar
huawei have 2 week battery life, once you have that you cant go back
  11. Deal_searcher's avatar
Decent price, heat added but the battery life for this is very average. I have a huawei gt2e and although this watch does a little more the fact the battery life is so much better is more important to me
  12. Craig_ward's avatar
Buy a pixel watch 2 on eBay for £50 more
    TwoJs's avatar
Battery life is better as well, I love my Pixel Watch 2
  13. londonstinks's avatar
Just couldn't go back to wear os battery after having a Huawei gt2, don't have to charge for like 10-12 days
  14. Joshfount's avatar
If you want the Pixel Watch then this looks like a good deal ♨️
  15. Sjsjzwzebxxbn_Uajqzszdbx's avatar
Better off with pixel 2 watch from eBay some even new sub 170gbp
  16. zackariah's avatar
I have had this watch since it came out the features are very good and as long as you can love with having to charge it everyday this is a good deal. I'd also say if you are going to buy this get the LTE version.
    barnehurst's avatar
Battery life reports are putting me off rapidly..
  17. Topper1900's avatar
I can't understand the issue with charging the watch everyday, I just stick it on charge every night when I go to bed, if you want it to monitor your sleep, which I found pointless once I done it for a week or so, just charge it before you go to bed.
    Adaks_'s avatar
Yeah true, I just bought a charger stand to make it easier.
  18. SinghSang's avatar
Never been into Smart Watches but at this price thought I would give it a go. Thanks.
  19. disfordrum's avatar
I've had this watch since getting it along with a pixel phone. I bought a second USB charging pad from Amazon for about a tenner, it lasts 2 days for me connected to my watch, and not wearing it at night means I can charge every other day. It's not a difficult routine to get into and it's a lovely smart watch. Heat added.
  20. mcivoronline's avatar
    Avoid. Battery is a disgrace
  21. kissmyfurrybutt's avatar
I got a cheap 30 quid smart watch off amazon about 6 months ago and battery lasts nearly 2 weeks
    Topper1900's avatar
That's most likely because is has hardly any of the feature this watch as on it. If I switch off all the features on my smartphone it'll last all week!!
  22. guitargaz's avatar
Should I stick with my Versa 2?
    HopScotch's avatar
    Yes
  23. DealTron's avatar
With the recent quarterly feature drop from Google yesterday, it's not far from watch2 in terms of features. Only might lack in battery backup.
  24. sxxychocolate's avatar
Nice one, Mr Switch!!! The price every smart watch should be!

    Heated and thanks for posting!

I had a smart watch and hated constant charging. so i discovered ancient technology called FSTN. It actually looks more clear in direct sunlight, and it isnt backlit. it includes a pedometer which is the only useful tool on a smart watch. There are no government controlled tracking tools like there are on normal smart watches and i find that not being constantly surveilled actually improves battery life. the iwatch can last 2 days and my ancient FSTN LCD can last 2 years on a single charge.... i dont know if this 763 day improved battery life is worth it, will let you know.

    137 for a pixel 1... I think that's a bad deal
  29. barnehurst's avatar
Cant be worse longevity than Fitbit - surely?
    Wooj's avatar
Both are made by Google, so likely built to die just outside warranty.
  30. Shimmasok's avatar
Second the terrible battery life. Only buy if you can commit to charging every day. Old GT2 lasted a week (edited)
    Adaks_'s avatar
Can't really compare it to the gt2 since that's just a fitness tracker whilst this has more smart features, wifi, nfc, it can do things your phone can do.
  31. triciauno's avatar
I have the watch, love it but having to charge it all the time if I use blue tooth is really annoying, also buying a replacement charger is so expensive. I have the pixel watch hence why I bought this watch.
    Wooj's avatar
So two Pixel watches? One for each wrist?
  32. WardyGTC's avatar
Nice watch for the money but the battery life is awful, I get almost a week out of my Fitbit Sense between charges. My wife has a cheap Chinese no brand watch that gets over two weeks.
    Phr33ky's avatar
Would you say the cheap Chinese no brand watch can do mostly what this can do? Just asking before I commit to buy.
  33. sigarner's avatar
good deal, but for me Android watches are so far behind the Apple Watch, but then they’re about half the price too!
    Topper1900's avatar
What does an Apple Watch do a Pixel Watch doesn't?

Whole day battery...what a joke..My Galaxy watch classic 44mm bought in 2018 still gives me 4 days of battery with average use, daily sleep tracking, occasional walks, pedometer etc..Google needs to seriously think of improving battery performance ..
