Really low spec group-set ,something to be aware of.

What are you on?! It's literally mid range, and pretty decent for most riders. It goes Claris, Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra, Dura Ace

With full tiagra, this may be one of the best value bike deals in a long time.

    Great spot.

Any others worth considering at this price point?

How does Felt stack up against the likes of Boardman, Cannondale, Specialized? They certainly aren't as well known, or are they?

Note that you can pay £100 more and buy this bike assembled. You still have put on the handlebars when it's delivered though. Link

Also, for those who prefer rim brakes, Merlin have now reduced the Wilier Montegrappa Tiagra Road Bike to £699, with small to extra large sizes in stock. Link

What size on this bike would be good for a 175cm person?

I'd say Medium 54, but use the size calculator here to check

I bought VR40 (Variable Road) from them 3 years ago. The Tiagra hydro brakes are very good. Really great bike and at this price an absolute steel. Wide front fork allows for bigger tyres aswell if you wanted a bit of gravel action.
  6. wotguvnotmeguv's avatar
Cheers for the post - I’ve just bought this in the 47cm size. Note that shipping is £19.99 on top. Merlin are listed on Quidco as well btw (edited)

Unfortunately they put the wrong gearing on. 50x11. Too high.
    Daniel789's avatar
You do know the bike has more than 1 gear? 34/34 is about as easy as it gets on a road bike

The Tiagra 4700 is honestly overdue a refresh but it will do more than fine for general riding and commuting needs.

One disadvantage of this bike is it lacks the eyelets to fit a proper pannier rack, although you can now get ones that secure around the seatpost, and seat or chain stays.
    DaveLakin's avatar
I was just looking at that as well! If this had fork and chainstay eyelets, I may have bit

Worth considering that these aren't the same Felt of old. The brand was sold off a few years ago, which is why you don't see much about them any more (for example it's nigh on impossible to find much about this specific model online)

That being said they still have a good reputation, and this does look like a lot of bike for the money.

52472111-CaIDs.jpgGot mine all set up for trails and gravel.
  11. wotguvnotmeguv's avatar
Mine arrived today. I’m pretty inexperienced when it comes to the nuts and bolts of bikes, and for me the included manual is non-model specific, talks a lot of jargon and is not a lot of help where this particular model is concerned.

Still, I muddled through. It’s a lovely bit of kit, and I did a few miles on it to test various things - there are some niggles (v squeaky up front, gears not quite playing ball) and the upshot is that I’m almost certainly taking it to a bike shop for a tune-up.

Just putting that out there in case others similarly clueless are thinking of saving £100 to not have it pre-built.

One thing’s for certain, it’s light and it’s fast. Just needs a bit of attention to get it properly ride-ready. (edited)

Parktool have videos for indexing the gears on YT. Easy to follow and most likely what yours needs.

Seems a great price for the spec. I can't really criticise anything seems a great all round road bike with a little bit of gravel capability thanks to the thick tyres but ultimately its a road bike with decent rider comfort. I guess some might resent the thick tyres who are more performance orientated.
    Daniel789's avatar
Wheels and tyres aren't good anyway, would be first thing to be upgraded

    Purchased! Thank you OP.

Good deal but still crazy Tiagra bikes are now at the 2k mark. I’d expect 105 for that money but in this day and age this seems a cracking deal.
    Swidc's avatar
These days you get 105 for 2k. Maybe at the peak of covid supply chain issues you would see tiagra at that price but not anymore...

**Obvs some Giant and Specialized models are the exception as people only look at the brand
  15. KIAN's avatar
With the bike industry in a bit of a sticky wicket with overstock of bikes on the global market this is still a good deal! Shame the colour if your not a sucker for colour it reminds me of the colour of cigarette packaging olive colour all bland designed to prevent purchase except this case of bike will do the complete opposite seriously improve your health and wellbeing still a hot deal ! Thanks for the post !

I want to buy this to use as a commuter, and just reverse those drop bars!

    Looks good
  19. Judosteffer's avatar
Thats really good, considering it has Hydraulic brakes. Tiagra is cheap to maintain as well. This is a superb all round bike. (edited)

Great price on a decent spec bike.
As another person has already noted, delivery is not free, Merlin charge £19.99 to anywhere in UK.
Alternatively you can collect from their Chorley Shop (PR7 7EL) for free.

I keep going back and thinking about buying, but something about that very slopey top tube is putting me off
    jparnell's avatar
Will it be less slopey on the larger frame? I'm looking at a 58cm

A bike lock would be a good start
  24. jparnell's avatar
I've gone for it. Couldn't resist in the end.
Small amount of TCB to help offset the delivery cost.
  25. wotguvnotmeguv's avatar
One thing to flag - mine arrived boxed with Kenda Kwest tyres rather than the stated Schwalbe Lugano IIs.
    jparnell's avatar
Hmm bit naughty. How do they compare?
  26. Moogly's avatar
    Any suggestions for mudguards, please?
  27. jparnell's avatar
    Bike arrived today.
Maybe should have paid for assembly
Got there in the end after taking time and watching YouTube videos
    Michinom's avatar
Mine arrived today too. Assembly wasn't too fun but easier than expected (was worried I'd need to do the internal cable routing, gear set-up from scratch, handlebar wrapping, setting up hydraulic brakes from scratch including bleeding etc.). Might take it down a bike shop to get it all set up perfectly though
  28. mrfisticuffs's avatar
Thought I'd get this, but ended up with a used bike from Facebook Marketplace. Is this a decent bike? - I have no clue.52419226-S6bKd.jpg52419226-mnPA1.jpg (edited)

    How much is it for?
  29. ClashInDevon's avatar
Merlin ran low on stock on these bikes earlier this week and a lot of sizes were unavailable, but it seems they have now restocked.

They have also now started offering the option of buying the Wilier Montegrappa Tiagra Road Bike boxed. So those who prefer rim brakes can buy this bike for £649 + delivery - Link (edited)

Bike people… looking for a bike to use for recreational use. I’ve seen the Cannondale Quick 3 at £725, how does this compare? Any advice?
