Anyone with access to Unidays, there's a code to get the first month SIM charge free taking it down to 385.20 (edited)

The real problem isn’t the phone, the real problem is what plagues every phone and that is the battery sealed inside. Until we go back to having the battery pop out like the old days, we’re going to have people complain about needing a new phone every year…. Which is obviously why they’ve all sealed them, to boost sales.

That said you can easily replace Pixel batteries and Google doesn’t do any weirdness with the software like Apple. I still think the Pixel 5 is the best phone Google ever made. Just a shame they already dropped updates for it only 3 years after launch, Apple will do 6 or 7 now.
    Cremoso99's avatar
They're sealed for water and dust resistance too.

EU law says that by 2027 end users must be able to remove and replace the batteries, don't know how that will work with IP67 and IP68.

Ok, So I just buy it, "pay in full", Add the £10 sim. Register it all to get my account all set up, then clicked leave voxi? Bin the sim and put my existing sim (that does roaming so I'm keeping it) into the Pixel and away I go...?
    andrewworrall1's avatar
Yes, but... I would suggest waiting until you receive the phone before cancelling the sim card / plan. Just so you know they won't cancel the phone order as a result of cancelling the sim / plan order

Don’t forget TCB probably £25 cashback

Had been eyeing up the Pixel 8 Pro, plus maybe the OP12 and the Pixel 8. If it were just the telephoto difference, it would be difficult to justify the Pro. But I do like a 6.7" screen, and there are scenarios where having a telephoto will save me carrying a separate point and shoot (running in scenic places).
The price gulf is so big though that whilst I can swallow £800 for a phone (if it'll last), it feels like a lot more money for a bit more performance. That said, I cling on to my phones for as long as they're running well...anyone know how the Pixel line fair on that front? I know there are updates planned for 5 years, but I'm guessing around 2-3 years in battery life will evaporate and performance decline to potato levels? (edited)

~£80 for a pixel battery replacement. I think it's worth it for a couple extra years (edited)

How's the battery life on the pixel 8? I had to get rid of my P7 because the battery was awfull
    HAZZMISTER's avatar
My P8 gets me from 7am - 11pm with maybe 4 hours SOT and I regularly go to sleep with 30-40% battery left. Not bad in my book
  7. Jyoosi's avatar
Unless you really value cameras above all else, the recent Nothing Phone 2 and 2a deals are quite a bit better than this. Generally better hardware and battery life all round.

Tried the 8 at launch and it was honestly just a poor phone compared to my Pixel 5. Now that the battery is starting to go on my 5, Nothing will be getting my money untill Google go TSMC with the Pixel 10 series.

Imo it's not worth touching any pixel for as long as they're using glorified Samsung Exynos chips. There's a reason Samsung finally caved to the pressure with the S23 to go full Snapdragon and ditch their own Exynos chips.

Interestingly Samsung reintroduced the Exynos chips to the lower end S24 models to boost their profit margins, and in doing so intentionally gimped the Snapdragon S24 units to make the Exynos not seem as bad.

    none of this is true
nothing phone is a mid range android with a party trick back
pixels have genuine game changer features
the dictation app thing alone beats most other android phones
pixel cameras have dominated for years at this point

what about the processor?- the better question is how long will the product be supported by updates
pixels will get long term support
don't know if nothing will exist in 5 years

Dang. Paid 600 from John Lewis for the pixel 8 256 GB version at weekend.

I've heard Google offer warranties on any phones not bought directly from their store.

Anyone know of that's the case or not as I would like to keep at least a 2 year warranty/ guarantee? (edited)
    Illia_Moroz's avatar
Google's warranty is really good. I had a swollen battery on my Pixel 6, bought in Decmeber 2021 from Vodafone, contacted Google support in January 2024, so slightly outside of the two year warranty they are providing with their phones and they sent me a refurbished handset for replacement, no questions asked.
  9. Ross_Parker's avatar
Very good deal. Tempted by this. Currently using an S23 and curious to try a Pixel for the stock Android features. Anyone gone Samsung S series to Pixel and can comment on experiences?
    Deal_searcher's avatar
To be honest if it was me I would stick with the samsung. The s23 has a faster processor, a telephoto lens and better battery life. The stock android is fine and some fanboys are adamant that it is better. Reality is they are slightly different but both perfectly fine, I guess it is more integrated with Google, there are faster updates but with that also bugs, and there is less superfluous apps included but I wouldn't swap it for that reason alone.

Good price for this phone, but imo the worst Pixel phone they have launched. You have to be willing to compromise on a few areas.

I'm usually accepting of buggy pixel phones, but this one takes the biscuit.

    Poor battery life.
    Glitchy UI
    Average cameras

He says, whilst typing on one.. and telling himself he's going to get shot of it for the last 2 months.

    Life of a Pixel owner.
    UltraValue_Tech's avatar
How come the cameras are average? Camera on my 6A already blows out most phones on market.
Also scores pretty much the highest scores at Dxomark.
Video quality finally seems on par with apple as well?

Just picked up the pixel 7 256gb for £379, is the pixel 8 256gb worth the extra £70?
    Josh_Fletcher's avatar
I'd say so better processor and screen and gets the 7 years of software updates
  14. anthonyduffy526's avatar
Do you think Currys might price match this have some vouchers which I can use?
    andrewworrall1's avatar
Having tried to price match in the past, Currys have told me they wouldn't because Voxi requires a SIM plan to be purchased and therefore the purchase conditions are not the same. However, it's definitely worth a try!
  15. EndemicAlarm's avatar
Google are slowly getting into false software restrictions to further distinguish between the three phones in their lineups. People have hacked apps to run on phones they say are unable to do so. It's totally shady man.

However on that note, if you're interested in the upcoming Apple Airtag equivalent functionality, I believe Pro Pixels have the hardware for precision finding whereas Non-Pros don't. And that's not an artificial restriction.

Double-check my homework there, but I recall it coming up when I was looking at P7s.

Considering the move from Apple. After advice. How does this compare to an iPhone 11 (current phone)? Need a new smartwatch too. Bought an Apple Watch 8 that’s unopened. Thinking of returning and getting the Google watch if I went for this. Anyone got any advice? Cheers
    Psxgul's avatar
No don't, alot of users are having battery drain issues. I've got the Pixel 6 Pro and they still haven't fixed it in the 8
  17. Anonymous_T's avatar
Any mate 20 pro users still going strong from that o2 refresh deal years back?

Mine is slowly giving up, screen burn, battery is on its arse. Tempted by this
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
I swapped from Mate 20 Pro to Pixel 7. It's buggier (lol, Google can't accomplish anything properly) but it's streets ahead in basically every other respect. Pixel Non-Pros don't have proper Macro lens, that's noticeably worse. Battery life is shorter but it'll comfortably last a day now. Can't think of anything else that isn't an improvement. I was chiefly hanging on to the M20P for the camera but the P7 is significantly better.

Sim is completely unopened still in its packaging, just in case they asked for it to be sent back for the refund.
    deleted3006183's avatar
Just got my refund confirmed for the two devices I ordered. Was not a problem at all via their chat. No need to activate the SIM. Order number is good enough.

Better value with the ID or Vodafone deal, especially using the £125 extra trade in and £90 topcashback. Cheaper and you get a SIM with 100gb of data aswell.
    DisagreeableRunt's avatar
I switched to Voxi when my last Vodafone contract, on an account I'd had over 12 years, expired in October 2022. The experience has sickened me to contracts.

Price rises every year, my last one massive, whilst PAYG/rolling only get more for their money. My Voxi started at £10 for 15GB, then an offer for 30GB for £10. I'm now getting 60GB for that same £10. Making mugs out of us with this RPI/CPI + 3.9% nonsense.

I'll never take another contract again until the networks wise up or they're forced to by Ofcom. (edited)

Ordered at 9pm last night, arrived 10am today. Cancelled my SIM deal and is all set up and ready to go now!

Mine said it was due for delivery today, got the email from DPD, but no sign. That always happens with DPD for me though. Think their 'next day' is actually two day to Northern Ireland.
