Just came back from a trip to NYC using NORSE:
Their flights are CHEAP, no doubt, but be aware that they really hassle you about the luggage. My under-seat bag was within 40x30x15, but the lady at check-in desk was pretty forceful in telling me that I had to pay $78 for any cabin-bag. I was adamant I didn't and she gave in, but I saw others who simply paid up...
Remember also, that meals and drinks are extra; which seems a bit extreme on a long-haul flight and the bag restrictions make it difficult to take a lunch on the plane with you...

They'll be charging you for the air you breathe on the plane soon!

New York not in a "Great State" right now...

i was there last week and i was pleasantly surprised. No sign whatsoever of the "undocumented immigrant influx" that id seen on social media which is what i assume you're referring to. I visited all 5 boroughs, Long Island and Montauk.

The only place i felt harassed was chinatown, where there were literally hundreds of hawkers, many at every junction, trying to sell fake handbags , ipads etc. if i'd avoided there i'd have nothing negative to say.

On the whole i was very surprised to find NYC clean, easy to get around and the people were generally very polite and friendly, often offering up their subway seat for my kids in rush hour. The only negative is that it is extraordinarily expensive.

Amazing price! There was a time I’d have got onboard with this, but the place has totally lost its appeal.

Did they destroy all the great landmarks and streets and museums and restaurants and whatnot? I'm fascinated with non-Americans who think they know anything about 'the appeal' of American locations they've never been to. lol (edited)

I loved New York. OMG it is such an amazing place and food is so cheap, if you dont mind buying it in the supermarkets and eatting on the bench or at the table outisde supermarkets. Like you have hot, delicious food you can buy in the supermarket. Crazy quality too. Oh man. I want to go again.

I came back two weeks ago and loved it. I also didn’t find it expensive at all. Vegas was far more expensive to me a couple of years ago and I don’t even gamble. I’d happily go back

Any tips on finding reasonable-priced accommodation? Prices seem ...eye-opening

Just come back from eight days in New York and loved it. The most expensive place I've ever been to though. 14 dollars for a can of Stella (which I don't even drink but one of the only alcoholic drinks served at Harry Potter on Broadway). Saw an egg and cress sandwich again for 14 dollars at a service station! A meal for two of just fried food or a couple of burgers with sides and drinks was around 90 to 115 dollars (don't forget tips).

Recommend if you go to get cracking with the subway, you can travel round the city so much faster for little money. Staten island ferry is free, so ignore anyone saying otherwise. A day trip to Washington D.C is a must, to see Arlington Cemetery, The National Archives and Lincoln memorial.

Also check out Go City for passes to all the attractions. We had no issues, skips loads of queues with fast tracking and saved a lot of money.

Since coming home I've not moaned about the cost of living once! (edited)

and can fit everything you need in a 40cm x 30cm x 15cm bag that fits under your seat

Used to be 45 x 36 x 22 cm for personal item, they have now shrunk it down to a crazy level. Thats like a stuffed laptop bag! But... If you travel lean and mean like I do its still possible for a 4-5 day break and wear the right clothes for the flight

Gone downhill since they legalised cannabis. Drug-addled dropouts on every corner.
Just a matter of time until it descends back into a no-go getto
