Added £15 top up via a voucher and tried to register for "My O2" only to continually get an error when trying to do this online. The same happened with the app. Called their CS and discovered (after making 3 repeat calls as I couldn't quite believe what I was being told) that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to register for My O2 with this plan. The only way is to upgrade to a monthly plan.
What this means is that if I did my intended number transfer I would be at risk of completely losing the mobile number that I've had for years if I ever happened to lose the phone it was in. All this because O2 won't let me register personal details against the SIM (I'm pretty sure this must be against some sort of Ofcom regulation but didn't investigate further).
I have now ditched O2 and will never use them again. Just want to warn people that this may not be the bargain it seems to be if you're using it for a number you need any control over.
Has that phone number previously been on O2? I know sometimes the accounts system will act up if the number already exists and won’t let you make another account.
In the end I had them send me out a new pay&go sim but what I have to do is activate it then call the csc to have my old number ported over to get the original credit put back on, which I haven't done yet.
So I guess it's worth a punt if it keeps on working but O2 can "Expire" the sim at any time
Being partially deaf I couldn't understand a lot of what was being said to me, I kept having to ask them to repeat theirselves
I bough a few it this some years ago and last year went to pop one on my house alarm only to find that the SIM card activation date had expired.
O2 told me that activated sims would still work but the newer tariff would need topping up every month??
quote "You can no longer reg for "My O2" unless you change the tariff so you are basically left with a working SIM but unable to register the number to your name."
stellamaris post up ^ there
Do you know how long without topup will it work for ?
Bottom line... if in 6 months you don't top-up or make at least 1 chargeable call (top-up required, so no escape either way), it can be cut off according to their T&Cs. (edited)

o2 says this tariff is discontinued.
Called helpline and man with funny accent always says will be 'tomorrow' but never happened.
They were more interested in setting up a new contract for me.
i really wish spuspu was viable for calls, but its not - maybe as a data only sim it'll work
They also seem to have some strict rules on eBay membership status.
I did two separate orders just now and have 'your order is being posted' emails just come though. (edited)
I was also on the Three 321 deal years ago which worked well for my usage.
Hopefully this will last a while.
ironically i cant phone to use the last p's i have.. and i have to logon to find out.. via their website..
and as three is getting rid of their 3g.. i'm looking for a new phone anyway.. new phone.. new service.
