Haven't built a PC since 2015 and not used one of these. Are these specifically for gaming and overclocked CPUs?

They are not needed for general PC stuff. You might as well pay half, third or quarter of the money that would do equally as well for general PC use. They will use less power & cost less money to buy but at the end of the day you might want the Arctic.

Checked online and someone said they are UNC #6-32 for the am5 platform which is probably am4 compatible

So tempted to get 1, as this is an introductory price, as they just released it not long.
Price is very good for being a top tier AIO.

But already using a Artic freezer ii and not really having issues with it

I also have an Artic freezer ii 280 but I heard it wont be able to handle an 14900KS which I might upgrade to.

"I bought one when it was on sale last time. It was a nightmare to install on my AM5 board. Only to realize one of the leaf springs didn't have any threads to actually screw on. Ended up returning it. Bad quality control from Arctic this time."

I was tempted to buy this at launch to upgrade from my Liquid Freezer II 240 but given I am using a Thermalright contact frame already, the performance difference seems to be within margin of error for most tests (on Intel). From reading the /r/arcticcooling subreddit, it also seems like there are noise complaints around the pump fan and apparently the AMD mounting is sub-par. I think I'll wait for later revisions and maybe upgrade in line with a new system.
    England2000's avatar
The AMD mounting on the freezer 3 is actually above par due to its offset. Any big name youtube review (like gamers nexus) mentions this.

For anybody possibly buying this for an SFF case. Make sure it will fit as artic freezers are much thicker than standard AIO radiators. AFAIK, it's 38mm vs. the usual 27-28mm. I ended up getting an EKAIO Nucleus for my FormD T1.

I have a Ryzen 7 in a hp omen. The stock cooler is dire. Does anyone know if this will work? Do you also need to buy thermal paste?
    Funkmeister_'s avatar
It should if your case supports the radiator capacity. Most modern coolers come with paste already

Bare in mind the pump on this one is very noisy from all the reviews and reddit posts. I would stick with the liquid freezer II. More than enough cooling performance.

I got arctic freezer iii 360 argb for £76.99 and connected Lian Li 120 Inf fans on the radiator, the fans of arctic freezer was put at the back of case and controlled by Lian Li L connect, It works great , well worth the price (edited)
