Carrera Vulcan Mens Mountain Bike Limited Edition - S, M, L, XL Frames - Free C&C

I wouldn't call it mid-range its definitely entry level but it is a real hardtail mountain bike that can be taken off road properly. The Clarks Clout hydraulic disc brakes are decent and easy to get spares and the Suntour XCM fork with 120mm travel is strong even if performance is basic. The Altus drivetrain looks to be a higher model of Altus but without a clutch and a 2x crankset preventing a narrow wide chainring it is configured I would say for light off-road use and general use as chain retention won't be amazing. It would have been better with a 1x setup perhaps a 11-42T cassette and something like a 36T chainring in my opinion. Still great value for what it is. There might be a few other ways to bring the price down a bit, cashback site, buying discounted giftcards through a cashback site, voucher code etc. Always worth looking.

Altus group set is 2nd from bottom of the Shimano hierarchy (i.e. several tiers from midrange, deore). I've owned a bike with Altus once and the shifting/return stopped working properly after about a year. (edited)
