I have a 2nd gen to trade in but I had a click through to trade in & I have to wait until they have inspected it to get my £30 and have to wait the full term to use the 25% discount.

Unless I am doing something wrong.

Did the trade in a month ago...

For me they issued a trade in voucher immediately and then validated it later on receipt and inspection.

So I had the full discount of trade in 25% plus trade in value on a Show 5 2nd Gen (with a bit of screen burn) immediately.

Decided to upgrade one of my Echo Dot’s and bought an Echo Show 8 3 days ago for £149.99. Amazon has great timing for reducing their prices. I started a chat with Amazon trying to save sending back, refund and re-order but they don’t want to issue a credit to save all the shipping.

This or the google nest hub?
    sheffield788's avatar
Depends what ecosystem you have at home and if your devices are compatible with Alexa or Google. Or if you need a camera. I've seen the Nest Hub at under £30 quite a few times, so I believe this may be better. The Nest Hub is quite old.

I've upgraded from gen 1 to 2, and I feel gen 1 was better. I only paid £15 after trade-in and 25% off. I wonder what minor upgrades they put in place for this one vs. Gen 2. Saying this, I've got Echo 1, 2, Dot 3, Dot Kids, and none of them are as temperamental as the Show. (edited)

Does this have EERO built in, or is that just the newer Echo Dots?
    xfiles9991162e's avatar
Mind you eero built in only supports 5ghz, and since most devices work on the lower frequency (a good example being Ring Cameras which are owned by Amazon just as Eero are) they cant make use of the 5ghz frequency boost to the mesh network by e.g. Echo Dot 5s

Does anyone know if these are any good as digital
    Picture frames?
    70sven's avatar
It is good as a picture frame but it is only an 8” screen in landscape, therefore it shrinks any portrait picture to fit. Also it is bulky at the back with the speaker, which provides good sound. You will have to save your photo’s to your Amazon photo which is unlimited for photo’s and 5GB for video’s. I’ve not tried to show video’s on the picture frame yet.

So you get 25% off and trade in credit?

Ive managed to get Alexa to rap to any song, say all sorts of obscene things, and even get her to say a personalised greeting from the ring doorbell instead of the preset options.......but i still dont think shes good enough to be a smart hub and in some cases you still need the manufactures hub for the time being until everythings Matterised

Lol. The fact that you've used those examples of what Alexa has done for you shows how useless she is. She's more than useless. Something that is useless provides no benefit but at least doesn't cause you to be more inefficient. Alexa has the ability to make you lose time that you'll never get back because you have to repeat yourself 5 times before finally giving up.

30 quid trade in for my 2nd Generation Show 8, so £69.99, which is pretty much what I paid for my last one. Not sure I am desperate to upgrade.

Bought from Argos for £49.99, returned a day later.

Can’t display a live stream for more than 8 mins.

Was using it to display the baby camera and other cameras around the house but kept turning the screen off. Amazon confirmed there’s no way to disable it so returned to Argos and got £89.99 back somehow.

Anyone have any decent recommendations on something like this that can display a camera feed for more than 8 minutes?  (edited)

I don't think you bought this for £50.

    Its 3rd Gen.
