Why wouldn't you recommend the Echo Show 8, Gen 1? The only real difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 is a better camera in the Gen 2. For most people that's not a concern.
I know, you never know the mood of HUKD members :D . I can't expire it for reason, Mods need to expire it
This was a good price so not sure why it went cold. Back up to £119.99 now so this needs expiring.
This isn't too bad for a Gen2. Suspect this is being voted cold because the obsolete Gen1's are being thrown away by Amazon! I have both in my home and my advice would be don't buy gen 1 unless you're hugely into nostalgia!
Although not 100% necessary we bought a spare battery when we got our Ring Video Doorbell 2. Meaning there is always a fully charged one to replace the depleted one. No downtime. 20 quid. 2 minute job.
2 or 4 what’s the difference just charge it over night
Good luck if this gets charged in 4 hours let alone 2 I have one got a year or so ago
Takes like 2 hours what’s the issue Sell on eBay ?
my order arrived yesterday with x/mas tree hangers, ordered through paypal, charged £47.47 and checked bank also confirmed £47.47. so all good.
Not much money so panic sets in quick haha
Just wait until you get it & then call if you want. But the deal is you pay the money upfront & they rebate/credit you. A bit early to be panicking.
Yeh it didn’t give me the option 100% cause someone else said on here they used PayPal I defo didn’t get the option all I got was card payment and finance option boring! Lol Are you sure? I mean if they want me to send them a picture of my blue light card I’m more than happy to do this but they have not requested it as of yet... and item has been dispatched...
Why? The deal was they take full payment & then you get rebated £40. Just because someone twigged Paypal was a processing exception it doesn't change your purchase. Just hang on until you get an email.
I think you are right, you'll be very popular there. But I really do not think it is suitable for communal doors.
Thanks mate! I haven't actually moved in yet so will suss it when I do. Would be good to have it but I'm sure if I did get it set up I'd become package receiver for the whole building!
You dont sell it now. It was £35 at Amazon, I've waited until the price was back to RRP and sold mine for £35. Not only this, some people don't even know the prices. I've sold an Echo Dot 3 on ebay for £35 and at that time it was £25 at Amazon. The door bell I've sold it via Facebook marketplace. In your scenario, I can't see how you'll use a wired one. The wired one goes to your existing door bell wiring and I'm assuming you have an intercom for the whole building. You can buy the power adaptor, but still don't know how you will plug it if it is at the main door. I also believe you may need to ask for permission. I work in social care, we need to put key safes for vulnerable people, and sometimes we don't get approved. But in your case, if it is fine to fit one, the battery operated is probably your best option. Unless you put it at your door, not at the communal door. Given the fact lots of people come in and go, if it is at the communal entry, you'll need to disable the motion sensor, otherwise you'll get notifications every time somebody passes the door. I don't think these are good for people living in flats.
should say the doorbell is currently £37 NEW at currys so you might not get that for it. I do need a doorbell and would love to use with the echo 8 but it's a second floor flat, with one of those buzzers for all three flats in the building. Any idea if I'd need wired or wireless or neither would work?
Hot! Sell the doorbell for £35 if you don't need it and you get yourself an Echo Show 2nd gen for £55 only. This is what I did with mine, only I've got the 1st gen for £20 less.
Philips Hue bulb for £2 more Deal: Echo Show 8 | 2nd generation (2021 release), Charcoal + Philips Hue White Smart Bulb (B22), Works with Alexa - Smart Home Starter Kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09G3TVRK2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_dl_83JZN6Y6DVVE28KRFPEV?psc=1
Bought two (one for the parents and one for the missus for using when baking so hands free timers and recipes will be great!) Didn’t want the hassle of opening a credit account with them so could take advantage of further reductions, but when Amazon are selling ONE for £30 less than I pod for TWO, can’t complain. No C&C option for me either, just said home delivery and never gave me the option of a Collect+ location
I had no option for C&C either :/
I ordered mine using click and collect so no idea why some are not able to (confused)
If you want this for controlling heating, lights, switches, cameras etc, then it will be Amazon Echo by a long margin, and it really excels in this department. Smart home config with Google is half arsed. If you just want a device to ask questions such as what the weather is like, how to make a Mojito, etc, then Google's language abilities are far superior. Problem is if you have an Android phone, you're not really gaining much by having a dedicated device. In conclusion, Google will more readily understand when asked that you want your lights turned on, but it's Alexa that is equipped to perform the task and Google should probably concentrate on making a device that commands Alexa!
Looks like deal expired for now, £107.99. Most likely a misprice as only lasted a few hours.
what the hell, the title says 2nd gen but the link and price is for 1st gen!
Mine arrived in store yesterday, collected today. Brand new in boxes (not refurbs)
My order also got cancelled quietly without an email.
thank you , mine coming Friday..fingers crossed!
Mine arrived yesterday, brand new and sealed.
I managed to order two white ones yesterday. But today I received an emails from Paypal about a refund from Very. No any emails from very about canceling my order, on my Very account it says Sorry, no longer available. This was my second order on Very and second dissapoitment.
Definitely not, I suggest you take a look on ebay as there are people who have made stands with 3d printers. Might find one you could use.
Typical, need a 2nd gen. Was about to ask if these tilt forward/down much as need it to view the floor space to watch the ankle biter in case I need to go to the kitchen. Currently have a show 5 and tilted using a hole puncher (y)
Having read the reviews , numerous folks state it fits Gen 1 and 2
Bought one of these, in white, a month ago at the same price. The movement range vertically is minimal, I ended up putting an AA battery under the rear base of the stand to get it to sit screen pointing forward. Not overly impressed.
Just confirmed that this is only for the 1st Gen. They've obviously changed it the 2nd gen just enough to need a different stand. The 2nd Gen one is £22.99
You pay a single full price if you send one back, so refunded the difference not half. Its in the terms. Deal price only applies if deal conditions met.
Anyone down to go halvesies?
I think it recalculates if you refund an item in a bundle and adjusts the refunded price. I think that's what this means
The code seems to apply a £15 discount to each device so they are showing up at £65 each. I would therefore expect a £65 refund if you send one back. Alternatively, sell one on ebay after the price drops have ended for more than £65
With these Echo shows connected to the doorbell, can you just leave it on the side and just use it as a doorbell viewer? For example, will it jut sit there, with a blank screen, and only activate with the doorbell?
Many thanks (y) 🏻
I did this last time there was an offer.
Is it possible to return the doorbell for a refund,it’s £24 when Amazon separate the items?
darrenwis: I don’t see how you got it for £35? It’s 79.99 - the £25 trade in bring it to £55ish??? You get 25% off and the £25 for my old full size echo gen 2. Depending what echo device you trade and condition the amount may be higher or lower.

If you intend to use the camera feature, for instance if you want to keep an eye on your home while on holiday then it's definitely worth the extra. Aside from the difference in resolution, the Gen 1 camera has a very narrow field of view which makes it difficult to position the camera where it can actually see anything useful. That can partially be remedied with a tilt and swivel base but those tend to cost more than that £20 difference! So there's a jump in resolution from 1 to 13MP, a wider field of view AND the camera tilts and zooms. If you are concerned about Amazon spying on you however, then the pixilated 1MP camera of the Gen1 can be considered a positive! But they both have shutters :D
Just deciding if the version 2 is worth £20 more than V1. I bought a ring camera yesterday and fitted so could send it back.
I went for the Ring doorbell instead for £90 :) This will be replacing a Gen1 Show 8 so that and the bell will be going on ebay!
