About this deal

Four respected presenters and a camera crew attempt to discover the truth behind 'The most haunted house in Britain', expecting a light-hearted scare or two and probably the uncovering of a hoax. They think they are in control of the situation. They think they are safe. Ninety minutes later the BBC, and the country, was changed, and the consequences are still felt today.

What has made this show a true Cult Classic is that, it's original airing on October 31, 1992, and the viewers actually believed it to be a live special. I raised a few eyebrows of the viewers & and studio execs alike. They knew that if the viewers had been told that it's just a movie, it would have never gotten the same viewer reception or ratings it received.
For the lovers of the "Found Footage" Horror genre, "Ghostwatch" still resides high on the list, and appreciated for the way it was aired.
It's still considered controversial, and IS STILL banned in several European countries.
Whether you are new to "Ghostwatch", or have seen it many times, it is still a fun rollercoaster ride of emotions. So, pop some popcorn, grab a beverage, bring on the Good & Plenty's & Twizzlers, and just sit back & enjoy the ride.

If you enjoyed this (which I did) then I recommend the film "Late Night with the Devil"

A masterpiece that will never ever be shown on national telly again.

Nobody could get away with this now especially with social media.

Ah, the BBC, where it all began! This episode of deceit has truly set the standard for decades of continuous trickery and tomfoolery. Bravo, BBC, for your unwavering commitment to keeping the public on their toes with your fibs and fabrications!

It's a fictional drama, and was announced as a fictional drama production in advance in the Radio Times...

Ok - this is so spooky as I just watched a Youtube documentary about this program!
    Never saw it live though?

I had nightmares due to this at 8 years old, thought it was real at the time, a classic.

Didn't help the house I lived in at the time the radiator had air in it so it would start banging when it was on to long , and I absolutely bricked it when it went off after watching this

Much better than Late Night With The Devil. Unfortunately most of the people who see Devil will likely never see this and definitely not get to experience what we did when this was broadcast.

I remember being in the juniors watching this at my best mates house, pretty sure it was Halloween night it came out. We were freaked out to say the least, we had no idea it was setup as we were just kids.
Bit of a masterpiece this for its time, doubt it'll have aged well

It must have really scared kids at the time. I was 21 when it was released though. I remember seeing it at the time, in the initial scene at the start of the show I thought how come the camera is panning around and zooming in on the kids surely it would be a fixed camera and after that I was entirely skeptical that anything in the program wasn't fiction. Was great TV nonetheless. I was aware of mockumentaries maybe because of Spinal Tap. Why it was banned I have no idea.

It was banned as someone killed themselves after watching it and it upset a large number of people through deception. It used trusted presenters, not actors in some roles and it was only more obvious it was fiction later in the show. Not everyone had the radio times or saw the start saying it was fiction. There are also many who believe in paranormal stuff. The fact is anyone can be convinced of a hoax through the media if done correctly.

seen this as a kid and bricked it! I’m sure someone phoned in to say someone put their finger on the table and their finger blew up or something.

Ghostwatch is a bit hokey now but you cannot underestimate how shocking it was in 1992. There had been nothing like it on BBC before.

Was 10 when this aired, scared the out of me and will not watch this even now, despite curiousity. I know it will have aged badly and probably no scarier than an episode of Scooby Doo these days. The way it was done was brilliant and probably why I love Blair Witch so much, taking advantage of the technology of the time to buy into the whole premise.
Anyway, voted hot, never going to buy it or watch it again however.

Never seen it. If it was on a Friday or Saturday night I know why, as I think 1992 was probably the year I was out pubbing/clubbing more than any other year in my life.

ItsNotWhatItLooksLike above has kindly put a link to a copy on internet archive that I might watch sometime. (edited)

I seem to recall that Mike Smith's treatment by the BBC in the aftermath of this show is one of the reasons TOTP episodes with him presenting aren't shown on BBC Four today.
