these any good for wireless PC speakers?

Like most Bluetooth desktop speakers these days they can have a bit of an annoyance one might not think of at first.

With these JVC stereo Bluetooth "wireless" speakers, the main speaker with an amplifier inside connects to the other speaker unit via speaker wires. Apparently the cable supplied here is too short, but you can find longer replacement speaker cables for very cheap. The only wireless part is Bluetooth connecting to source (can use wires as well). These particular speakers also have the announcement for Bluetooth pairing set very loud which can be annoying.

If you have a long pause in your media or your media is very quiet for an extended period of time, the speakers will go into "sleep/standby" mode to save power. The problem is it takes a split second to wake from this state which usually results in you missing out on the first second of the media.

Having said that, it'd be difficult to find any half-decent active speakers for PC at this price point at all without going used. You could get something like this amazon.co.uk/S-M…S9/ as an external amplifier sat on top of your desk so you'd have the option to use any passive speakers of your choice, but you'd be spending twice or three times the price in the end. For solutions less than 100GBP you really only have active speakers to choose from and the JVCs are well reviewed enough despite their quirks.

There are smaller active studio monitors for around 100GBP like the PreSonus Eris E3.5 or the Mackie CR3-X but they usually have smaller 3-3.5" drivers which I've found doesn't give you the full sound that a bigger woofer will. Buy these smaller ones only if you don't have the space for bigger speakers.

I would personally invest a bit more than 100. Sub-100 is nowhere near the sweet spot of price/performance on desktop speakers (especially for flexibility). Just about 150-200 and you'd get very good results.

For example, the amplifier linked above + (Nearly New) ELAC Debut 5.2 with code from Peter Tyson ebay.co.uk/itm…311 for just above 200 total is a great combo. Of course I realise not everyone is willing to spend this much on the get-go, but I'd say this will be the end-game solution for most people for not much money compared to what you can spend on audio stuff. Cheaper speaker options like the Wharfedale 9.0 would be fine too. amazon.co.uk/Wha…J8/

Don't forget to look into used speakers if you're going down this route. You can get great deals on used stuff for a lot less and speakers as long as they're not 20 years old (to be safe I wouldn't go over 10 years) should still work just fine.

All in all the JVC will serve you fine if what you're looking for is decent sound. If you're a bit more serious and want more out of your audio gear then going with an external amp is recommended, because that's where most options for serious-audio grade stuff usually are. Most of them are passive (there are active ones too, i.e. studio monitors are usually active) but also rarely sub-100.

If you're more of a movie watcher and just want some oomph then a 2.1 set (stereo speakers + subwoofer) should be an even better choice. Something like amazon.co.uk/Log…7Q/ or amazon.co.uk/Cre…TT/ (the Pebble Plus are for smaller setups as they're not meant to be playing at max volume). (edited)

They're crap speakers at full price but worth 69quid... Just. Sound is very basic and the cables supplied short. I picked up for 80 and returned before the 14day cool off.

Because these aren’t real JVC..they’re some chinese budget speakers with JVC badge on them.I don’t think £70 is a bargain for them.

Am I missing something with these comments about using these with a turntable? Surely the whole point of vinyl is it is an analogue medium? Sending the sound via Bluetooth must ruin that experience.
    EdUnit's avatar
All speakers are analogue.. they just reproduce what you send to them

Do these need an amplifier or can I connect them to my smartphone/laptop/etc and play music?
    TALON1973's avatar
They're Bluetooth speakers…. So you just use your phone . (edited)

These have been £79 or £89 in store for as long as I can remember! Why do shops treat us like idiots?
  9. daniel_albanese's avatar
Can you hook them up to TV via Bluetooth or however?
    hilari0us's avatar
Yes. ANY Bluetooth device - they can be used with. TV, PC, phone, Amazon Firestick, laptop for example. Or ANY device with a 3.5mm headphone jack, using a cable (RCA / AUX to 3.5mm headphone jack) (edited)

I prefer the Sanyun SW208 over these.

Owned both and to me, the Sanyun seems better with everything else. (use for my PC setups) (edited)
