Check with your local water company. I got a water butt free from South West Water as part of their "save water, save money" initiave.

    Thank you!

Is the 'save on water bills' aspect actually real? It always imagine it'd take me 10+ years to get back the money spent on this by 'saving on my water bill'. Granted I have a small little garden with flowers and grass, it really doesn't need much.

Well, down here in South West Water land, we pay approx. £5.50 a unit (1000L) so 5 full fills of these would result in a saving of approx 1 unit of water. (£5.50)

Could probably have a pay-back quite quickly, but then again I don't use much fresh water to water the garden... (Although it could do with it)

Not sure how long these take to fill, but when it rains the water absolutely gushes down the drainpipes...

Apparently it is supplied with the stand and filler kit. Without those at Wilko it’s £31.

So to clarify, the water butt comes with the stand, a tap and the filler connecting kit to the drain pipe.

Cracking price for a full sized water butt.
Well worth having if you've the space, if nothing else your house plants will love the rain water.
If we have a hot dry summer again its certainly a good thing.
    Heat added

I've got 1100L of water butts and a pump. If there's a hosepipe ban it doesn't affect me much

I grabbed one last year for my parent's garden. No issues with leaking or cracking.

The look on people's faces in the carpark was amusing as I opened the boot of my trusty Smart and proceeded to load it in and close the hatch!

I bought a set of water butt stands from Wilko, which again have no issues.

Ah yes. I remember similar looks from other people as I wheeled a mattress out to my Fiat Uno (this is going back a few years).
I opened the hatch, removed the passenger head restraint and slid the mattress straight in.
Meanwhile, someone else suddenly realised what he'd just bought wouldn't fit in his large Vauxhall saloon.

Paid bargain £26 for something very similar (same) Amazon 2017 - £28 now 2023 is a total bargain. People might say vs price of supplied water payback is too long & then there will be those talking about plastic. Yep payback is too long but compared to convenience if away from mains water (shed, garage, allotment, end of garden) plus it's rain water. Added to this plastic pours out the ground with the oil we or others use so what better purpose? All said since last summer I've tanked 10 tonnes of rain water underground as my 1 tonne+ of butt water went near nowhere.

Check the customer feedback on Wickes water butts I bought one of these about 2 years ago and it collapsed when it was full, and had to take it back. They might have improved it since then.

You were very unlucky. This deal has 100% same photos (or object in photos) as my 2017 Strata brand bought from Amazon that's showing no sign of any problem. Have a 350+ litre one that was old when bought my house 30 years ago (sadly no idea what brand) but can't fault this more recent purchase for my shed downpipes. As I've said above though 210 litres or even 1,000 is sadly spit in a dry summer and my garden is for certain modest.

    Heat. Great idea!

I water my plants mainly in spring/summer. Car gets washed roughly every 2 weeks or so. Is it worth getting in my case? (edited)

If you mounted this on your car roof, you could use it as a super sized windscreen washer water container.
With some additional pipework, also a water supply for cups of tea in the car on your way to and from work.

These are a lovely idea. Reality is a bit disappointing though. If you mount them on the floor, you really can't access the water that's lower than the height of the bucket/watering can unless you use some kind of pump. If you mount them higher, you need to make sure their on something strong enough to take over 200kg.

Filling them is free, hooray. Will they replace your hosepipe? If your garden isn't tiny, using a watering can is hard work.
If the weather is a bit warm, the water inside goes real green, real fast. OK for plants maybe, but I wouldn't be using it on my car.
If you get a dry spell, 210 litres won't last particularly long, and it won't refill until the next rain...

FYI a "standard" uk hose uses about 15 litres a minute.

Great if you've orchids or delicate plants though.

It says it is supplied with a stand BTW.
Looks like it is the same one Wilko charge £11.50 for,

These are useful instead of a soakaway on garden room gutters.

I have one from Wickes not sure if it's this one or a smaller one but it also has collapsed slightly at the bottom when full

Anyone ever laid these horizontally or will it leak out the lid?
Looking for overflow to put under the decking.
    JoeLennox's avatar
The lid isn't watertight at all, that would not work

I have 2 of these - bought for £34 when they did 15% off recently. The tap is pre-connected, the 3 part base and the filler hose and adapter are included inside the butt (check before buying). They are manufactured by WARD and have their branding on the label and base.

Mine filled very quickly (linked together) when connected to the downpipe of a double garage pitched roof. The water is better for plants than tap water if your're serious about gardening. I calculate my 2 butts should pay for themselves over 12 months as I water a lot of container plants and it has rained a a lot recently. Granted in the summer rain is less frequent. I would buy another at this price but don't have space for it. Great deal.
